Last summer, I played Rebellion (w/expansion) with my son and it was the best night we had last year! Over 5 hours of pure gaming bliss. What an experience!! As a solo experience, I really enjoy Outer Rim with Unfinished Business. The Pandemic Star Wars is really good, as well. Imperial Assault is great, too! Come to think of it, there’s a lot of great Star Wars based board games.
Yeah agreed it’s awesome you can play it any player count and so much freedom. Though I wish there were better characters in it. Where is the mandalorian expansion? The rest of the classic OT bounty hunters? And Dash Render/Kyle Katarn since we literally have their named ships!
For most of my life, I was obsessed with Star Wars. Back in the day, I had CCG cards that I didn't understand and Star Wars Monopoly and much later on, Star Wars Risk. I would've loved to have ANY of these games at that time...Today, the brand doesn't get those feelings from me anymore.
Last week I impulse bought Imperial Assault when I saw it on a deep clearance deal. I wasn't sure how the 1 vs all would go with my small group but thought I would give it a go anyway. I was happy to find the fully cooperative mode existed with app integration to run the empire! This is how I plan to dive into it hopefully sometime soon!
My top 3: 1. Star Wars Miniatures, use it for the tight skirmish game or for campaign/RPG stuff. Endless maps and characters available that no other game could ever catch up too especially since Disney wiped out the old canon. 2. Outer Rim, absolutely amazing Star Wars experience of being able to pretty much do whatever you want in the galaxy, only held back by some of the weird character choices (no Dash Rendar/Kyle Katarn despite having their actual named ships in the game???). 3. Star Wars Deckbuilding Game, barely beats out Clone Wars for me as the fastest Star Wars game, super easy to setup and variable game lengths but this is our Star Wars game for on the road or when we only have
Agreed with Roy’s last comment that they’re all worth owning potentially. The ones I own, and rank Rebellion + Rise Deck building (this REALLY grew on me) Imperial assault Clone Wars Jabbas real realms (my favorite love letter after infinity gauntlet) Villainous (the only one I don’t play much. It’s ok) I’ll be picking up unlimited tomorrow
I know it’s not technically a board game but my favorite is Star Wars X Wing, and it’s not even close. Just so much fun to dog fight with classic ships. I often play a simplified version of it without upgrades with a colleague and we just get to fly tie fighters at each other and make pew pew sounds for an hour.
Out of those Rebellion for sure. Some not covered but mentioned that are amazing is Star Wars Queens Gambit Star Wars Risk Black Edition Star Wars Duel
I love rebellion. Just hard to get to the table because it is so epic. Maybe if we played it more often we could cut the time down but with only bringing it out occasionally, 4 hours is about right. Love imperial assault too. I see some love for outer rim here. I’ve been on the fence about it. Theme sounds great. I’ve heard it is very long also, and that you “need” the expansion for it to be good.
I'm an old Star Wars fan (went to the original movie at the theater when it came out) yet I don't own any of the games. Kind of interested though. I have Star Wars puzzles!
Definitely Imperial Assault with or without the app. So much material and so many side missions. $15 to buy an expansion pack and change up the next campaign.
Star Wars: Rebellion is the best Star Wars game. It just capture that original trilogy so well. Then, from the rest that I've played... - Imperial Assault particularly for the app-assisted campaigns. - Outer Rim which is the only pick up and deliver that I think I need in my collection. - X-Wing for being a fast/fun skirmish. - Armada because it's a cool implementation of fleet combat. - Clone Wars because it was an interesting take on Pandemic. I wish Unlimited had been an LCG. I'd be super into it if it wasn't random boosters. But, I'm not sure I want a random boosters game. Shatterpoint has been one that I've been trying hard to avoid, because I already have the money sink of Crisis Protocol. I don't have bandwidth in my collection for two of these styles of games. But, Shatterpoint looks so cool.
I love all the games you mentioned for different reasons and with different players - I own them all (yes, that includes all expansions for Imperial Assault 😅). I am also heavy into X-Wing, Armada, and Shatterpoint. I also have a bit of Legion stuff but I do not actively collect or play. Unlimited looks fine, but I do not want to get into CCGs 🙂
The Imperial Assault app is a great idea, but sadly there are only a small handful of missions that don't make much use out of the expansion boxes. The 1 v many option has a ton more depth and content. It's a shame there's no fan-made expansion content for the app the way there is for Mansions of Madness. Outer Rim is fun, and very much enhanced by it's expansion. I like it a whole lot better than Firefly as a similar type of game. Rebellion is pretty epic, but I can't get epic 2 player games to the table :/ The old Star Wars LCG from FFG designed by Eric Lang is really good and much better than it gets credit for. Apparently the way the content was rolled out for competitive play was not great for players at the time, but now as a "complete" game, it has a lot to offer as a casual Star Wars game, and the deck building using thematic packs is unique and ingenious.
The official app for Imperial Assault doesn't have fan-made content, no. But there is a fan-made app available on BGG that allows you to play all available campaigns solo and/or coop. It's called "Imperial Commander" and is a ridiculously impressive tool, considering it was just a side project by 1 to 3 guys.
Imperial Assault has a fan-made app. It allows you to run through the normal 1-vs-many campaigns cooperatively, and I believe it also allows for fan campaigns. Do a search on "Imperial Commander 2".
There is also Star Wars Bounty Hunters coming out pretty soon. At least in Europe, not sure it’s planned to come out in the US just yet. Looks like a very good game to own if you need a quick and witty Star Wars game. Plays in 20 min, and 2-6 players. Personally live the art style as well.
The rise of the dark side is great as well. Fairly light complexity but variable difficulty modes. I've got a hold of a bit of the old SW tcg and X-wing but I have yet to try them out. My favorite is Destiny though. Discontinued but fairly accessible in well assorted hobby game shops and the secondary market.
As much as I love (and I mean absolutely love) X-Wing, it's essentially a dead game. I'd recommend against it at the moment. When it eventually fully dies, something else will have to fill that void because nothing else plays as well as it did in its genre. Something else will rise to meet that void. That's what Id wait for if I were you.
So many great options! It's really wonderful. For me it's Outer Rim (with expansion) and Rebellion. I can't pick between the two. But also reallllly loving the new SW Unlimited TCG.
The absolute best is Star Wars Armada. Sure, this is more a miniatures game, but there are a lot of cards for fleet building in the game as well as dice chucking etc. But the beauty of this game are the strategies and tactics to fly your Armada and destroy the opposing side.
@@dblevins343 The miniatures are better in X-Wing. I love the grandeur of the gameplay in Armada more. But then again, as a completionist I decided to stay away from X-Wing when I decided to get into a miniature game. And I am not even the greatest fan of Sta Wars. Love Sci-fi though.
SW Rebellion is my favorite board game. All types combined. Any year. My favorite board game of all time. ^^ thematically, mechanically, it's perfect, as well as being awesome in every game we play.
There are five Star Wars games in my top ten: Imperial Assault, Armada, Rebellion, Destiny, and the LCG, with Outer Rim and X-Wing not far behind. Imperial Assault and Armada comprise two of my top three (the other being Dice Masters).
3:04 there is no so much luck in Outer Rim when have the right Keywords! Every mission or job tells you what key words are required! So get a good crew and some good equipment and you will be fine.... most of the time 😉
If you are posing a question like whats the best Star Wars game, I wanna hear the expert answer. Its frustrating not getting that answer, happened a few times recently on Dice Tower
For me its star wars rebellion for sure BUT my tastes might not line up with yours so trying to give lots of recommendations so you can find out what works best for your group!
@@RoyCannadayI understand that. I’m sure there would be people who skip to the ending, ignore everything else and then start gloating that “that game is the best!” and being annoying. Or other people pointing flaws going “how can so and so game be the best if it this long/short or only this number of players?” It feels like you want people to make their own conclusion and not really want to give the “expert” opinion because it’s such a personal opinion based on your play style and it’s like you said, they are all good. So try them out and make your own conclusion!
I really want to try Clone Wars. People like it but it is hard to buy it if it is just Pandemic again. I like the Deck Builder and loved some of the old CCG’e before there were so many good choices for board games.
As someone who didn't like Pandemic, there are some changes to the Pandemic system that I liked. But, at the end of the day, it definitely shows it's Pandemic roots and I just don't enjoy it. But if you enjoy Pandemic, I think it's different enough to try it out.
I own all of the games shown. I know they aren't board games but for those of you reading easily the most thematic star wars games are the miniatures games, the top of the list for me is Star wars Armada (fleets in space). Legion (army's) and X-wing (dog fighting) are great too! Id recommend them over any of the games shown, though they are only 2 player games. Imperial assault is really cool out of all the ones in the video. I find outer rim to be Xia legends of a drift system but bad so it is the one game in the video that was very disappointing to me.
Im assuming he'll say Rebellion. It definitely fits the theme. But my favorite is X-Wing. But thats not a "board game". My favorite board game would be Imperial Assault.

Great video, Roy. You did a fantastic breakdown of each game, what makes it distinct, and what makes it appealing. Well done.
Highly underrated Star Wars game is Empire vs. Rebellion. Great little two-player game with fun tactical card play.
Back in the day, it used to be SWCCG by Decipher. Now it's Imperial Assault and Outer Rim.
Outer Rim with Unfinished Business expansion is my personal fav by a mile
Same here. I love the freedom to do what you want, and the flexibility of player count is great too
Even the solo mode is fun and challenging.
Yeah agreed it’s awesome you can play it any player count and so much freedom. Though I wish there were better characters in it. Where is the mandalorian expansion? The rest of the classic OT bounty hunters? And Dash Render/Kyle Katarn since we literally have their named ships!

I am an Armada fan, which is my pick here.
X-Wing is amazing. All of their (FFG) miniature games were fantastic.
Out of those Rebellion for sure.
Some not covered but mentioned that are amazing is
Star Wars Queens Gambit
Star Wars Risk Black Edition
Star Wars Duel
Imperial Assault hands-down. It feels the most like Star Wars to me. Unlimited and Outer Rim are also great though.
Roy: "Which one of these games might be right for you?"
Me, who owns almost all of them: .........
I obviously love them all too! 😂😝

you should have released this video on May 4
Or have All Star Wars board games ranked and include all Star Wars board games on May 4th - with brackets.
But now people can get a game to play by May 4th!
The answer is imperial assault. It's fun and has the most replayability.
My favorite is outer rim but i love queen's gambit and imperial assault also
Star Wars: Rebellion is the best Star Wars game. It just capture that original trilogy so well.

Hey! That's my picture I posted on BGG at 5:56 😅
Without watching, the answer should be Rebellion
Agree, most thematic, perfect amount of depth and replayability.
Wrong. All of them!
Without watching, but having watched the Dune one, the answer will be no answer because it depends on the situation.
Am I right?
@@buddywahlquist2467lol truth. Silly video.
Imperial Assault is my favourite. Esp. playing against the app.
Roy have you heard if FF is working on a Rebellion style game based on the Prequels

Imperial Assault all day. Just feels like they should still be releasing expansions with so much of the universe undiscovered.

Roy did I see some Star Wars Miniatures in one of those Clone Wars shots?
Definitely should’ve specified, I thought you’d mention the Star Wars Risk’s or Star Wars Stratego or older and newer Star Wars games.
Not a board game but I'm so deep into Unlimited right now! My favorite SW board game is Rebellion tho.
Where would you rank Star Wars Villainous?
Imperial Assault is my favorite by far!

Outer rim and rebellion for me!
Got to have them all!
Which do you think would work the best solo?
Outer Rim, Imperial Assault with the app or solo mode from BGG and then Clone Wars in that order.
I'd say Imperial Assault works best. I think having campaigns fits 1 player games so well.
What about Star Wars Shatterpoint?
Shatterpoint is my No. 1; sad it hasn’t been even mentioned in de vid somehow
I didn’t have any minitures game or CCGs just board games but i want to try shatterpoint!!
Star Wars Legion is easily my favorite. More of a table top game but it’s fun building your armies
Back in the day, it was Star Wars Epic Duels
Fortunately, Unmatched has moved into that void. My fingers are still crossed to one day get Star Wars in Unmatched. Then the circle will be complete.

Star Wars the clone wars is great game and it's aslo single player.
Missing one amazing game "Star Wars Villainous" 😮

Shatterpoint + Rebellion.
Imperial Assault!
Ngl I bought it for the figures
Team Rebel forever! I can’t help it.
If Star Wars Uno isn't Number 1 I'm unsubscribing! Jk, jk 🤣
Star Wars risk is fun. And if anyone has an extra grand they want to give me I would love Star Wars Queens Gambit.
Star wars Risk. Star wars Rosk !!!!
The only answer is rebellion:)
I wish all star wars games weren't 14+
Did not answer the question in the title.
Did not even really compare the games on any point.
Anyway, it's X-Wing.

Or better: "An overview of Star Wars games"
Please say "basically" a bit less😅
