"DON'T GO FOR 3X CHOKER" - me in vc during niftski's 2:37 (he was deafened) Great work as always, Max. Glad to call you a friend. Seeing both this community and your channel blow up has been an amazing experience. Can't believe it's been over 5 years since I first picked up this flash game...
thanks max for another banger, glad I was able to help out with this. been such a pleasure to watch the community progress closer and closer to perfection and even more of a pleasure to be a part of it. excited to see what we can do in the future!!
the burden of every single game with a high skill community is to endlessly explain why counting frame perfects for difficulty is dumb to the gd community 😭 celeste has it quite bad in terms of how many gd players claim that things are easy because of the frame perfect count
@@drawndrearythe funniest part about the frame perfect count for Tidal wave is the fact that it’s 60fps frame perfects and they are not the same on 240fps (the refresh rate most players play on now) and the number of 240fps frame perfects in the level is significantly lower
32:12 "Short easy to pick up speed games with no RNG. Well, aside from spike glitch." This not long after talking about how the frames themselves are somewhat random thanks to it being a game in flash with an irregular set fps lol.
What the Niftski Also showing the IL strats at the end after showing so many normal runs gave me a real shock moment. Seeing the "normal" world record routes so many times primed me so well to not expect the craziness of that new train strat.
another thing about frame perfects not being comparable: a 32 ms window in two different games can feel massively different depending on the underlying framerate. in minecraft parkour, a headhitter timing (press forward, then press jump 1 tick later) is ostensibly a 50 ms window, because physics are processed at 20 tps. but it's actually effectively more random than that, because depending on the timing of your first input within a frame, the second input may need to be only 1-51 ms later, or it may need to be 49-99 ms later, with no way to tell which. so even if you always time the second input between 46 ms and 54 ms after your first (which seems reasonable if not generous), you still have a 4% chance of just whiffing it through no explicit fault of your own. if the game ran physics at 60 tps but the window were still 50 ms wide, that inconsistency would entirely vanish.
Well, there are ways to negate this randomness such as jumping in place before doing a timing and basing it off of the visuals (because the physics is tick aligned, the visual of a jump starting will be too). But even then, you can get screwed by ticks being variable lengths occasionally. Definitely a pretty similar comparison
And another thing: Frame perfects in physics sandbox games are often much harder to practice because they can only be performed after doing the section of the level before the frame perfect. In Geometry Dash, you can just put a start position right before the timing you want to practice and it works just fine, but you can't really do that in Red Ball because even if the game did have that functionality, it'd be a nightmare to position the start at just the right spot with just the right speeds and angular momentum every time you wanted to practice something. And even if you could do that, many of the strategies require certain objects to be in certain positions moving a certain way, which absolutely wouldn't work with a custom start position.
Also, if you use megahack, you can use fps bypass which lets you choose your fps, and making things easier. Comparing a massive community run game cannot compare to a small flash game
Thanks Maximum, and all the others who helped you create this masterpiece if a video. I just want to say "Thank You" for reviving a game that should have been forgotten, if it it wasn't for you. That was once again a fantastic retelling of a journey, thank you so much for your hard work and dedication :) And yeah, frame perfect in one game is not the same as in others. “it’s about drive it’s about power, 30% off on amazon for the next 2 hours” legendary guy. he’s so incredibly calm, and that sub 2:40 celebration was insane
22:52 As a GD player myself, Those other players that compare that Red ball are so much easier than GD is dumb. You already told everything in the video why Red ball is different from GD and other games and I really understand it. Plus Red ball isn't a Rhythm game so please let's mind our own business GD players, We don't know the half of their struggles and their Determination to get a perfect run
I still remember when i saw a random video about a random speedrun strat in a random game that i'd never heard of (the sub 20 train one) and for some reason clicked on it, and now here i am still watching these
All gd players play the game at a 240 fps tick rate and usually an even higher frame rate. A 60 fps frame perfect in gd is a much tighter margin than a 4 frame timing on 240 due to setup. I’ve been playing gd for basically my whole life and would consider myself to be a pretty high level player and I can confidently say that levels are not made difficult by their number of frame perfects but instead by the complexity and difficulty of chains of inputs. Gd players are able to beat such hard levels almost entirely because we gain the muscle memory related to visual and audio cues. It seems like many of the frame perfects in red ball are essentially blind timings and while the amount of time to perform the click may be greater, the fact that it’s blind and isn’t part of a distinct input chain would make it way way more challenging. I have crazy respect for people who are able to just hit timings like that without any visual or audio cues. That’s truly insane
Dude, people INSIDE the gd community talk about how frame perfect count is a bad metric for difficulty. Not sure how or why people who have to deal with ship physics think this game is "way easier" but ok ig.
Another thing about the whole gd rant, NO ONE PLAYS ON 60 FPS so saying tidal wave has 201 frame perfects is misleading because top players play on 360 fps! Do you know how many 360 fps frame perfects are in tidal wave? Take a guess.
Top players don't play on 360fps, they play on 240TPS but since most are CBF users with sayodevices, they have around 8000 technical "frames" in a single second.

given how much has already changed, i would love another part, along with a full history video that remakes all the old videos and turns them all into one cohesive history and narrative
The frame perfect analogy should be its own video in all honesty instead of being in the middle of this amazing video so more users can view it, it's extremely informative and can teach both communities and newbies well! Frame perfects on Tidal Wave were determined by playing it solely on 60FPS with no "frame skipping/physics update skipping" issues a player might run into during a run. No one with progress on that map plays it on 60FPS, while the timings are still extremely tough, the level of precision and control the player has in Geometry Dash can't equate to Red Ball whatsoever (240FPS vs 31FPS on Flash). Also, counting difficulty by frame perfects is an extremely flawed metric that can fall apart by the addition of complexity or other variables like inconsistencies and such. Anyways, this is a well done video, great work!
