Good tips man! And for the people talking about rubbing alcohol, don't do it! Even diluted, rubbing alcohol is a very strong SOLVENT. Even at 50% and lower. I used 50% alcohol when wiping down a high quality shroud and it actually caused the chrome to flake off after a day!
One time I had moisture in my light so I pulled it off, poured rubbing alcohol inside, swished it around, poured it out, and blew air into it so all of the alcohol was evaporated. Big mistake. That coating on the inside turned hazy so I had to buy a new one.
I'm sure glad I read your entire comment bcuz while reading I began moving towards my rubbing alcohol thinking I FINALLY found a fix to cleaning the inside of my headlight projector glass without being able to touch it since I refuse to pull apart my headlight assemble from fear of not being able to properly seal them (2011 Ford Edge) I'm about to try using 6" extra large q-tips with a microfiber eye lenses cleaning towel. I had a difficult time installing new LED bulbs last year, I couldn't get them to twist back in due to too much metal on metal friction so I stupidly sprayed WD-40 inside, over spraying inside of the projector lens!!!! What's worse is, I repeated the process on the second headlight!! Good luck to me for removing the year old WD-40 without dismantling the assemblies. Tips/Suggestions will be appreciated, if they are worthwhile.
White vinegar works amazingly well on the outside but I don’t know about the inside as I had no idea there was a delicate plastic lens on the inside until I watched this video. I have a Honda Fit and recently learned the inside of the headlights cloud over, so no amount of cleaning the exterior is going to fix them. Just for the heck of it though, I mixed white vinegar, baking soda and water and used a sponge on the exterior lights and voila, the lenses are nearly clear. What’s left is on the inside but it’s 90% better than it was! It saved me $1200 at the mechanic. I wish I’d taken before and after photos but I didn’t think of it. I honestly didn’t know it was going to work as well as it did. ❤
Couple of things! you can fix the crazing with a super expensive 3m canopy kit for aircraft. and the microfiber cloths can only be used once for the headlights, after that here considered soiled and will contribute to lens scratching. Learning alot from your channel. wish you were still doing videos.
Can’t get new lenses if you’re working with a mod that requires cutting. Have to start over with a new headlight and new cut. Anyway, I got those microfiber towels and that cleaner from your links and on the way.
My 2013 Nissan Altima has the projectors inside, the lenses on them are cloudy and need cleaning. I was hoping this would help me, it doesn't seen like it will.
The best way to smooth out glass cheaply is to work the surface with pumice soap and to rinse off as you did. It has micro abrasives that will work out any blemishes. Then to apply a gentle glass polish with a dust free cloth. If you use a 1400gsm cloth or higher to wipe off it will leave minimal streaks. I have cleaned the outside of lenses but not experimented on the inside with the exception of just wiping them with a clean/new cloth with a little rubbing alcohol. Also, the smudges left after air drying can be removed with rubbing alcohol and a soft dust free cloth. The alcohol evaporates super fast without leaving residue. Hope my suggestions can help you. Thanks for an awesome video as always.
It’s so crazy. I make videos like this that are deceptively complex. On the surface it’s some idiot acting like water and soap is hard to figure out. In reality, your seemingly rational idea of alcohol and cloth would most certainly destroy the inner layer I spoke about, but in tiny little sections, eating though only where you rubbed, but not where you couldn’t access. It’s one of the worst things you could do. Also keep in mind it’s been 20 years since headlamps had glass lenses, so the pumice idea is out the window. Sucks right? Two totally good ideas are absolutely terrible in reality. Stick to the tips in the video and you’ll be stoked at the results 👍
Thank i will try this i open a set of lights for an acura tl and there was some cardboard on the oven (i didn't saw it)and some kind of smoke is now attached to tge inside lenses.
I’m resurrecting this video. I have a failed seal somewhere on mine. I’m curious if I need to wait for the headlight to dry before going to a process like this because I want to hopefully take apart paint and reseal using same lenses. Will baking them while wet from inside bake in all that water and such.
Recently did my 350Z lights and got a small blemish on the inside of the lens that needed contact to get off, so used a new microfiber and some panel prep for paint and yeah hazed the lens. Since the light is long gone anyway (previous owner butchered the housing by breaking all but 1 clip so doesn't seal unless I cover the outside in silicone) I thought id try the wet sand, clear coat, polish method and for the most part it worked really well. You can still see some scratches at certain angles but like I said the housing and lens are done anyway and this is just temporary until I replace it with a depo housing and lens and transfer the OEM internals over.
Man glad i found this video! I was about to open mine up and polish the inside.😂 can I send you sone pictures of these lights and you let me know if they're even worth saving?
Hey, i need your help. I have a 13 lexus gs350 headlight that had some weird what looked like glue that was leaking down from top on the inside the the lense, water wouldn't do anything so i had to clean with a microfiber towel on a flexible rod, i scratched the inside of the lense. Any thing i can do to polish the inside to restore it back to clear? Maybe clearcoat the inside lense? Or do you know where i can buy a lense? Please help im not sure what my options are right now.
Thanks! I got some butyl inside my rx7 lenses, tried some soapy water and a towel… but think I’ve screwed it up. Will try the lens sealer, and if that fails move on to buy new ones…
Have you ever seen LEDs cause hazing on the inside film? I recently took my stock ones apart to paint the housing black and put new lenses on. I also changed the bulbs to SMDs and I noticed both the sidemarkers sections got hazing around the bulb, so I had to take it apart and clean whatever it was off and re-seal. I switched to a super low heat led and that seemed to fix the issue. BUT there’s no way that any LED burns hotter than stock. I’m just at a loss as to what would cause this other than heat. Maybe the lenses are just crappy?
Why!! My lenses hazed after my last build, and yesterday I cracked them open and clean them. They cleaned up but the irony that this video pops up in my feed after I cleaned them.
FlyRyde I used dish soap and a microfiber to clean them up then compressed air dried them. I didn’t think to use distilled water that’s clever. The haze is from something off gassing either paint or adhesive. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They cleaned up fairly well, no more cataracts even with a new microfiber i got fine lines. These are my personal test lights so I’m still trial and error. New lenses would be the next step. Great videos I learn so many tricks. Keep it up.
Hello, is there an alternative to OE for my 2017 Kia Forte? I replaced the original bulbs with LED bulbs on the low beam, and really no difference. I do a lot of night driving. Any recommendations?
My custom headlights had issues and went back and forth and due to them being opened and closed about 3 times they now work but they are misting up like crazy and got all sorts of dirty marks inside. I don't want to be sending them back again. So want to try heat them up, open them up with the slide technique you have shown, clean them and re seal. Shall I still do the washing up liquid and water move around with no running and then dampen a micro fibre and gently wipe? Then I was going to blow dry them and I have kitchen towel to wipe clean. Would this be ok? Then wonder if I need more of that butyl stuff adding or just heat up what there and add more sealant around them the next day. Advise would be great. Thanks
Recently I was doing some modifications on headlights and washed inside lens with sponge and some dishwashing soap and ofc made mistake and than fixed or I hope I fixed mistake by sanding inside lens with 2.5k grit carefully with very light pressure and after washing again with water and drying with paper towels than I used burdock oil to do some polishing inside again with paper towels and it looks amazingly good, not sure if it's gonna last. Also outside lens was sanded all the way from 150 to 2.5k grits and polished with burdock oil and I never had cleaner and better lenses since I have car. Again I'm not sure if that was right thing to do and will it last, it was just desperate experiment and results are amazing currently. Headlights are from Audi A6 1998y.

Any tips on cleaning the inside of a stock projector lens without removing the clear cover . I've removed the light bulb having difficult time cleaning don't have tool long each to reach inside of projector lens its kinda cloudy and dusty cause it's a 2011 🤔 any suggestions on what to clean with that won't leave residew I just want them crystal clear no haze
You contaminated the microfiber cloth with your barehands. As well as using the tap water and distilled water. Also when using the compressed air to blow out the water, hold the lense upside down so gravity can do its job. It will prevent any floating particles from landing inside too.
I have the same tree streaks on the inside of my unopened after market head lights. I thought it was from air coming through the assembly. A leak in the housing unit. Yes or no? Also I'm looking for a set of headlights for a 2011 avalanche 2 projector in each housing. Bi- xenon lights. Etched lenses. Smoke halos, and black painted front shield (can't remember technical term). And rgb demon eyes. And entire housing painted satin black ( including drl reflectors and side marker).. the projectors... best that can fit in housing minus laser.
You should definitely do that and reach out to Adam's! Kustom 54 knows his business! That man always impresses me. Has tips and tricks for days. I still think Pavel knows some sort of lighting and paint voodooism/magic 😂 A couple of these high end builders do. You still know electronic wizardry that I can't seem to master. Despite the master classes. 🤔 Lights looking way better my man! Nice job 🤘
On another note, I really wish I could find some nice new lights for 08-10 ford superduty. Both of my custom builds (on my 08 and on my 2010) have aged so bad I'll never get them perfect again. New Motorcraft lights are priced atrocious. Never seen depo make them. Which sucks. I love the depo lights. My titan and Xterra lights were both depot. Super awesome for the cost! Sooooo if anyone knows who makes a set with good quality aftermarket set of lights for the whopping 2 years they made this body style truck(oem style. Without the extra garbage projectors and weird LED placement)...... Holler at this guy! Or if you know someone who has a stockpile of like new condition take offs without charging my 2nd born. I'll take em. Maybe you wanna help a brother out. I would love to upgrade to a dual projector setup too. I think I can squeeze a morimoto 5.0 or g5r in the factory turn/running location. Thanks for the content Chris! Always a pleasure watching you show yourself being human. 👍 Y'all take care
Hey I just did a build and hours after finishing the plastics inside the housing all look like they have a white glaze on them. Even though I cleaned the surfaces with soap and water before sealing the housing. How can I remove this without cracking open the housing again which I really don't want to do
Have you seen the videos of a magnet wrapped in a cloth and placed thru the headlight bulb hole with string and then pulled across the inside surface by a magnet wrapped in cloth on the outside of the lens? Thoughts on that?
Cleaning the lens surface is not the issue, getting at it when the only 'hole' is when you take the bulb out, that's the problem LOL Was looking for some nice custom made tool like an over extended old fashioned flexible 'pipe cleaner', but no one has seemed to have invented one yet!
I’d be curious to actually measure the amount of water I used in the sink. While for you, I sped through the long dull parts of washing them out, the reality is, I’d have used up 10 gallons of store bought Distilled water, only to achieve the same results.

How to remove WD-40 from inside of projector lens WITHOUT dismantling headlight assembly? Even possible? 6" extra large q-tips with microfiber towel? Any glass cleaner I can use? I wouldn’t say inferior. One car that’s plagued massively by bad, yellowed old lenses is the IS250/350. Screw buying new lights at 2k+ when a set of DEPO light lenses can be swapped into the factory Xenon units and make them look brand new. Just depends on how much you care about that extra 1600+ dollars whether you want OEM or not 🤔
Randolph Cirilo probably, but overall I’m not the car care guy to ask. I treat my cars like crap lol. I’m sure some dude out there waxes his lights daily, sings sweet lullaby’s when he locks her up tight in the garage for the night, and then dreams of detailing the undercarriage... 🤦♂️ For normal humans, I think it just boils down to the environment where you live, and if it’s garage kept it not.

You should definitely do that and reach out to Adam's! Kustom 54 knows his business! That man always impresses me. Has tips and tricks for days. I still think Pavel knows some sort of lighting and paint voodooism/magic 😂
A couple of these high end builders do.
You still know electronic wizardry that I can't seem to master. Despite the master classes. 🤔
Lights looking way better my man! Nice job 🤘
He came over for beers one time and we just couldn’t stop talking in the workshop. Pretty sure the wives are happier with us apart, lmao.
Y'all take care
I’ll keep an eye out for you dude 👍
How do I get the lens off of my 2007 Mazda 3 so I can clean the inside
Does a dust air can work if I take the back caps off and spray in there ? I don’t want to take the headlights apart?
I want to do the same.. Did it work for you?
@@user-ik8fl2xr5t yes it works
Nice shirt got the same one !
How much do you charge for angle eyes on a Saab 9-3 2008 something different but never really seen someone do a pair of these
How do u open head light
Where can i get the gills from the wrx headlights?
@sinister.retrowerkz on Instagram 👍
I have f150 lens that is discolored inside it is a custom light. Can you clean it for me if I send it to you ?
Lasted about 13 seconds before I turned it off.
I don’t need to hear you yammering about how cool you are. I’ll figure it out myself.
Lol yeah. It was cute 🥰
@@flyryde recommend trying it on somewhat cheap lights?
I love your videos... I saw that you have it coming out of the oven with hardware and wiring still in it, is that usually OK?
Its ok 👌
@@flyryde if I'm going to be doing the degreaser dip I should remove EVERYTHING though, right?
I’m missing a dust cover.
And now the inside film is peeling.
I can’t find a dust cover online for 2014 Dodge Dart GT
HELP!!!!
That was a lot of work jeeez
Where do you purchase those headlight gills you installed on the wrx lights
@sinister.retrowerkz on Instagram 👍
Cleaning the lens surface is not the issue, getting at it when the only 'hole' is when you take the bulb out, that's the problem LOL Was looking for some nice custom made tool like an over extended old fashioned flexible 'pipe cleaner', but no one has seemed to have invented one yet!
Are you in the uk
Good thing I procrastinate, because I was going to polish the inside of the only pair of headlights I have xD
For the second method, placing the lens om a fixture would give a better chance of not accidentally damaging the inside
How can I get an exact length for a Cadillac ATS headlight??
Hmm?
FlyRyde led strip *
I wonder if cleaning then using a ceramic coating on the inside would fill in any tiny scratches
Only one way to find out
why not skip the tap water and just use all distilled?
I’d be curious to actually measure the amount of water I used in the sink. While for you, I sped through the long dull parts of washing them out, the reality is, I’d have used up 10 gallons of store bought Distilled water, only to achieve the same results.
ounce i live caps open in sprayroom and same problem
How mate, do restore headlights for clients. If so can you reach out to me for a quote. .cheera
There's nothing cooler than doing the things we aren't supposed to do but want to do and pulling it off.
We're you located
PLEASE HELP ME MAN. I HAVE CONDENSATION BUILD UP INSIDE OF THE LIGHT. I DON'T HAVE HAVE THAT SPRAY YOU USED OR COMPRESSED AIR. WHAT CAN I DO???? PLEASE RESPOND THANK YOU
... but, why are we yelling?
Use some alcohol bro.....I know the feeling.
@@flyryde why couldn't you just answer him? Instead of some snarky reply..
Just A Trucker first off, I made him a free long ass video telling him exactly what to do, how to do it, and why. You my man, came in with something I specifically said would ruin his lens (without even knowing it was terrible advice), and then criticize me. Cute bro.
@@flyryde Free? Your channel is monetized lol. His view is paying you stop it. Where do you people get alcohol will ruin the lens. I used 70% rubbing alcohol and it came out looking great 🤫
I had to polish the inside of mine as they were hazed on the inside
Some guys use Easy Off oven cleaner to completely melt out that anti fog layer that gets hazy.
Did it turn out good in the long run?
yh how is it working for you
How to remove WD-40 from inside of projector lens WITHOUT dismantling headlight assembly? Even possible? 6" extra large q-tips with microfiber towel? Any glass cleaner I can use?
I was hoping this video was FINALLY a fix to cleaning the inside of my headlight projector glass without being able to touch it since I refuse to pull apart my headlight assemble from fear of not being able to properly seal them (2011 Ford Edge) I'm about to try using 6" extra large q-tips with a microfiber eye lenses cleaning towel.
WHY? I had a difficult time installing new LED bulbs last year, I couldn't get them to twist back in due to too much metal on metal friction and a terrible angle so only my fingertips can reach the bulb, tight space, so I stupidly sprayed WD-40 inside, over spraying inside of the projector lens!!!! What's worse is, I had to repeat the process on the second headlight!! Good luck to me for removing the year old WD-40 without dismantling the assemblies. Tips/Suggestions will be appreciated, if they are worthwhile.
$3000 lights, I would use new oem lens.
Ok so what do i do if i dont want to rip it off of the housing
I'm curious to know if you found a solution
@@user-ik8fl2xr5t i bought new headlight assemblys
Cuanto cobra usted por instalar luces de colores
Why not polish the inside ?
It has a special thin material that protects the insides. If you polish the insides you remove that film.
So how can u clean the inside lens w/o taking the whole car apart to do it
Never had that happen to me
Depot or any other aftermarket lights are inferior to OEM.. Id do what I could to restore the OEM lights..
I wouldn’t say inferior. One car that’s plagued massively by bad, yellowed old lenses is the IS250/350. Screw buying new lights at 2k+ when a set of DEPO light lenses can be swapped into the factory Xenon units and make them look brand new. Just depends on how much you care about that extra 1600+ dollars whether you want OEM or not 🤔
@@flyryde .. Is there anything that can be done to prevent that yellowing fogging crap?
Randolph Cirilo probably, but overall I’m not the car care guy to ask. I treat my cars like crap lol. I’m sure some dude out there waxes his lights daily, sings sweet lullaby’s when he locks her up tight in the garage for the night, and then dreams of detailing the undercarriage... 🤦♂️ For normal humans, I think it just boils down to the environment where you live, and if it’s garage kept it not.
I want to send you my headlights so you can customize them :(
What kind of lights mr frowny face :(
FlyRyde 2006 350z stock headlights :)
I still haven’t made an Ironman mod video. We could do that 🤔
FlyRyde yes please! Thank you :)
Camry is different harder breed
God damn. Saw this after the fact of cleaning water streaks in the cover. Fml.
Can I just send you my headlights it’s got some sort of powder inside the lens
You cannot 😬
Have you joined the discord group? There’s a few guys in there that’d be able to help. discord.gg/fdUcry7Tvr
Yeah I fucked up and ruined my lens on the inside.
Are you sure you are talking about lenses, rather than covers?
