  • neurocare’s Dr. Trevor Brown speaks with Dr. Jonathan Downer, a psychiatrist and associate professor at the University of Toronto, focusing on the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS or TMS) for psychiatric disorders. Dr. Downer emphasizes the importance of personalized TMS treatment tailored to specific neural circuitry in psychiatric disorders. The discussion explores different stimulation targets within the brain and highlights the safety and tolerability of TMS across various areas.
The researchers also discuss the efficiency of TMS (rTMS) treatments, particularly with the use of intermittent Theta Burst stimulation (iTBS), making the therapy more accessible to patients. Dr. Downer focuses on the need for enhanced accessibility and affordability, emphasizing the importance of refining systems and processes to broaden access to TMS for patients with depression. Looking ahead, Dr. Downer predicts a future in neuromodulation involving faster, more cost-effective treatments, extending the applications of brain stimulation to conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The discussion emphasizes the vital role of ongoing research in refining TMS efficacy and understanding its impact on diverse brain areas and disorders. This discussion offers a comprehensive overview of the current state and future potential of TMS therapy in the realm of psychiatric disorders.

People are drawn to death and destruction headines. The huge breakthroughs with paralyzed people walking again, the quadraplegic with a Neuralink implant who can play chess with his mind, advances in cancer research and even in potential AGE REVERSAL...barely make a splash.
      Yet.

I've been suffering for years now. Failed with over 15 medications. I don't really see a future anymore. I live three hours from Toronto. I have no access to this treatment. What are poor people supposed to do? We are the ones that need it the most.

It does not cost you anything. What is your disorder? Have you looked into focused utrasound at Sunnybrook? It is much more specific and effective for depression, OCD and anxiety. Check it out. I'm signed on, for six months from now, for OCD. I've also failed with over 15 medications.
