Stutters are often made worse by anxiety, but are not caused by anxiety. They are prevalent no matter when someone speaks - it is a neurological condition.

I have tourettes and I can relate to how cruel the world can be if you're imperfect in some way. Scatman had it far worse than I did, but he turned everything around and then some. A real inspiration.
I know a person at church who stutters and hearing her its seems that these people have it hard, people make fun of you and you can't hold a full conversation without stuttering it must be frustrating. I'm glad even though he stuttered he pursued his passion and became an awesome singer.
My stutter manifested around that time and lasted for most of my childhood. I grew out of it but once in a while it comes back but never as it did before. Good to know someone who stuttered all their life was able to overcome it. RIP Scatman
When I saw for the first time this song on screen in disco, I thought how could someone sing so precisely it seemed like it was tuned in automatically but this guy was really precise, I think nobody can ever imitate him, It was a message to humanity from a man who had been bullied all his life. i have tourettes and i dont stutter much usually but i hit myself and scream and bark as well as other things. scatman john helped me learn that im not broken, im not a bad person for hitting myself and objects. i’m a human being just like anyone else. thank you john larkin. you’re my hero.
It’s funny when a person stutters when they talk they have a hard time talking and getting the sentence out, but when they sing, their brain changes a completely different and they sing in complete sentences. Idk how that works but it’s truly amazing what the person can do when they do sing
Much respect to John. Wish he was still with us today, I would love to have seen him or even speak to him. He seemed in good spirits though from what I read, saying that he was okay with it...that he had tasted beauty. Guess he had no regrets. John is one of the most underrated singers ever, really. Yes, he did blow up in the 90s and early 2000s, but we don't mention or even consider this man as much as one of the best musicians out there. We always mention all those rock stars of the 80s, the pop stars and rappers of the 90s and 2000s, but not Scatman. His backstory is touching, he is polite and well-behaved and he can make a crowd dance and sing. Imo he is one of the best of his time or even of all time, yet completely averted.
