You two should be proud of yourselves for your development as cyclists + TH-camrs. And Amy, don't assume "sweaty" is unattractive; it's your transparency that's most relatable & alluring.
Well done! VO2Max test of 70.5 is very good. At 28, I suddenly found myself the class guinea pig for a VO2Max test in my uni' Exercise Physiology class and recorded 72.5. My Exercise Physiology professor was impressed, telling the class it was up there with elite professional athletes including pro-level cyclists. Considering I was a serious competitive cyclist, I was very happy with this!! Unfortunately, it didn't translate into a many great results for some reason but regardless, nice to know personally. Keep up the great work!
Brilliant! Nothing feels better than knowing for a fact that all the hard work and training is actually paying off so congratulations with the fantastic results. Blooming well done 🚴♀
Moving those thresholds 50W is absolutely awesome. It's really exceptional to get such an increase - well done 👏 Look forward to hearing how Kyle gets on when he re-tests.
impressive Amy. FTP is the real metric you want, its your theoretical 1 hour of 'sustainable' aerobic power, from that test, (ramp or 20 minute test can simulate this) we can set your power zones, you can then perfectly pace yourself based on the power zones (heart rate as well if needed). The ftp number will give us your w/kg, you'll then have a reference for pacing on climbs and overall power during your rides. Doesn't have to be only focused on racing purely - its about knowing your efforts for a given ride. And when you add a training stimulus you'll have an objective measure for your training block. Additionally your 30s, 1, 5 minute power etc is valuable as well.
Hi Amy. Absolutely awesome. Nothing comes from nothing, and you have put in some hard yards in the year in between your last test and this one so big kudos to you for that, and that is probably where your bigger numbers are coming from now. If you're not careful, you'll be racing instead of touring, I'm sure they've got some Great Britain kit for you somewhere haha. Keep doing it, keep loving it, we love you. Kyle, you might need to do a coaching course haha. Take care both of you. Look forward to the next Vid.
Great effort, Amy -- beyond being an _aerobic_ animal, you just an _animal_ !! Kyle, very glad to hear you're not putting pressure on yourself for the Nat'l 24. Do _your_ best & _enjoy_ it.
Unfortunately our Captain from the new Pro Tour cycling team "Bike and Beer" Kyle Duke of Nutella could not perform that test, instead he will participate in the "Heineken" championships at his favourite pub next Saturday !!! we wish him all the best,Go Go Kyle !!!
Once again . . . Amy - I watched a video of a bikepacker on the C&O trail in the US. His 'energy drink' of choice was a can of Coca-Cola poured over a teaspoon of instant coffee! I thought Kyle would want to know.
I have followed your channel for a long time mainly due to the fact that you where raising awareness of mental health 🙏 but i do feel there has been a shift in your channel , yes its good to set challenges and goals but having a coach and technical equipment/bike is beyond many who are struggling...thats just my opinion but if its keeping you happy mentally & physically continue the good work 👍
Great to see a You Tuber cyclist really show themselves doing a performance test. Looking at your numbers your VO2max is top 1% for 30-year old female. Looking at power out put your power curve looks like a highly trained person with all round ability. What is missing is a 60 min FTP test, best guess is your FTP will be around the 210W mark making you a 4 W/kg cyclist which is pretty good, but elite women, like winners of Unbound gravel reach about 275-300W from their published power data.
Interesting watch and info Amy What I would like to know is if you have a Garmin bike computer what your VO2 max is shown on that as, is it anywhere near the same as your test . You have made a great increase with your fitness that's for sure. Not sure how you manged not being able to talk for so long 😍 and the most I have heard Kyle talk. I sort have just caught up on this video I must look at your site to see where I am I should be getting them as you post but youtube doe not seem to work like that.
I’ve done two vo2 exercises on zwift. I can say without a doubt I was feeling your pain and sweating with you towards the end. Your results are absolutely phenomenal! I’m looking forward to pushing myself to your level.
They're very very good numbers. Barring bad luck, you should be in for a good ride. Enjoy! By my reckoning, a 24 should only really start getting hard in the last 6 hours unless you start too hard as most do, or have a tough night, the other 18 should hopefully be easy and fun.
I had the same, training plan was helpful to make me not go too hard and too far! Definitely helpful for people like us which have a penchant to over do it!
I know you've had your bike fit an'all but I can't help thinking your seat needed to go up - legs still seemed too bent. Probably just me. Good content, this and France trip 👍👍👍🚲
Amy, I think it was obvious from your last test that you had a stack of improvement coming. Training aside, just the miles you cover will be improving your lt1 power. However, the specific training will complement this.( Strangely I love and hate Lt1 rides as my legs feel the worst at the end of them) I think pushing up your lt2 numbers will probably drag up lt1, just as developing lt1 helps push up lt2. I like the fact that FTP is not mentioned in the vid, if it was I missed it. FTP is a bit wishy washy at best, but in most cases is assumed to be close to your lt2 test, which is a factual scientific point. It would be interesting to see how long you can hold your lt2 power for, effectively your time to failure. Not a nice thing tho do as it will be somewhere between 35-60 minutes! But, a lot of emphasis is put on FTP and how big it is as a measure of fitness rather than the time that you can hold an effort. (Few people actually do a 60 min test for ftp, either a ramp or 20 min effort then calculate some number. But effectively you can end up training for those tests) Depending on your discipline of choice, fitness may be better viewed as how long you can hold a given number than having a bigger number that does not relate as much to your activity of choice. If your training neither moved your lt2 or lt2 numbers but allowed you to hold lt2 for say over 50 minutes rather than 35 mins I think this would be better than chasing numbers. Not saying you are chasing numbers btw, not saying your coach doesn't have this in hand, but it would be interesting to see and understand how you make progress in this area. Various training platforms generally calculate the length of time that you can hold this lt2(ftp,) it is defined as TTE(Time to exhaustion) and is calculated/observed in your power curve. I expect if you could look back on it, you will have not only improved your lt2 by 50w but also increased the time that you can spend at or around this number. Lt1 at 200w is super good by the way. Looking strong!
Looking forward to Kyle's bike fit, as seems he needs a different set of bars. He looks ok on the straight bit of the bar, but on the hoods he looks over stretched.
For anyone who owns a Garmin, either a bike computer, or one of their higher end running watches and a heart rate chest strap there is a guided lactate test you can do that will estimate both your lactate LT2 heart rate and your FTP.
@@amy.cycling.adventures I know from watching you for a while now that you're tentative with the group racing, and I totally can appreciate that. I'm just so impressed with your endurance that I'd love to see you (and Kyle) crush some people in competitive endurance races. Not for the sake of crushing competition as much as proving how amazing your fitness level is. Either way, wish you both all the best!!!!!
Hmm interesting with your VO2 Max @ 70.5 you have a higher VO2 Max than some Olympian female marathon runners who run 26.2 miles in around 2:20:00 - it would be very interesting to do a VO2 MAX using your Garmin device.
Hi Amy, I've been loving watching your videos. The first one I watched was All Points North, and I was inspired by your recovery from mental illness. I, too, have had these difficulties, love cycling, and did my first audax, having seen your videos. I feel really sad that you have moved in this direction with your channel. The cycling world is saturated with 'FTP' 'Vo2 max' lactate this and that. So many people I know are obsessed. What about the joy of riding to just be outdoors, to be just able to ride instead of being able to hold 350 watts for a minute. I'll miss watching what your channel was. It was really something different ❤
I honestly think that 95% of Amy's videos are always about the joy of cycling so there is plenty of room for this kind of video. I'm sure I will never do a VO2 Max test but I really enjoyed watching someone else suffer!
Thanks so much for the love of the videos, I’m so happy to hear you’ve done an Audax they’re the best, we’re doing one next weekend 🙌🙌 sorry that you’ve not enjoyed this video ~ I completely understand where you’re coming from. cycling for me is about happiness and I do it for my mental health, that’s why I started, Audax is 100% my favourite. But I do like to challenge myself a bit too, the channel will not be moving in the direction of watts etc, I’ve just been working on following a training plan to help me meet some endurance aims that I have and to help me have some direction as before I started with a coach I was trying to do too much. That’s kind of why I’ve not filmed my training, no one wants to see me sweating through intervals & I know that for lots of people that’s not what cycling is about which is completely fine ~ I just like to have a challenge / aim, I’ve grown up with a sister who’s an athlete so it probably comes from there a little 😅 I do find the numbers quite interesting I have to say ~ but cycling is all about enjoyment for me. Enjoy your rides & Audax’s ☺️
I use power & HR on all my rides sometimes just HR on those ones it won’t upload to Strava as I have it set not to it’s from my watch and I upload from my Garmin ☺️
Always wanted to do a ftp test, but know I'm not capable of riding flat out for 20 minutes. Find I'm at max heart rate after 5 minutes, too many sausage rolls i think.
Jesus. 50 watts increase is incredible. If you did 390 miles last time with an lt1 of 150 watts, then you'll definitely do over 400 miles at a 200 watt lt1. Pushing higher wattage for the same RPE will mean you'll need to eat more though., you'll be burning significantly more calories at 200 watts compared to 150.
Funny thing is, we all know she has extremely good numbers (way above average) and could compete at the highest levels of female competitions but she has no interest in competing i.e. being first, the fastest, or to the top of a hill first lol. Such a shame. Those of us that want to compete would kill to have her gifts lol. In Texas, we call her type of riding a "chip and dip" kind of rider. They'd just be happy to have a little basket on the bars to hold a bowl of dip and a bowl of chips so they can just ride, dip and eat. No hurry to get anywhere. Probably why the numbers are so good.
I’m not into group racing because of the risk of crashing, I tried crit racing and hated it, but it I am into endurance cycling ~ I have done some endurance racing the national 24hr time trial last year and All Points North endurance this year so just a different kind of racing to the norm ☺️ 24hr TT again this weekend ~ got aims in endurance cycling 🙌☺️ but the main thing is enjoyment 🚴♀️
@@amy.cycling.adventures Yeah, I'm with you on avoiding racing and high possibility of serious crashes. I don't bounce any more. Now a hospital visit if there's a crash.
you can't buy those kind of watt gains! spend 5k on an aero bike and you'll probably save 20 watts at best, possibly less. I would love to gain 50 watts!
Is it just me or does anyone else find that trainer very noisy? Seems like there's no wax/lube/oil on that chain... or is it the main wheel on the trainer rubbing metal on something?
Why????? Are you intending on starting racing? Or is this just a promotion for the bike fit business? Next you will be worrying about numbers & watts as well. You don't need a FTP for PBP
Endurance racing I might have a dabble in, like I did all points north this year and have the 24hr Time Trial this week, next year want to try and do APN a bit faster so having a bit of training just to get faster over the longer distances ☺️ priority is always riding for fun 🙌 but I do enjoy a little look at numbers from time to time 😅

Another posh bird cycling, whole cycling scene is "rich mans" game. Disgusting. Loved hearing Sir Wiggos latest podcast about the rich taking over
