I've noticed pet store employees 90% of the time claim the ability to sex rats but every time I ask for a female... Its a female with uhhhhhhhhhhhhh baggage? Lol
Hi, I am hoping you will see this and reply to me. I have had my first two rats for almost two years now, and they will be two years old in a couple of months. One of them is breathing heavily and the sides of his chest are pushing inwards deeply, he is losing strength in his back legs and keeps tripping and falling and he is barely eating anything. I do not know what to do, is it time to euthanise him? Or do I let him pass on his own? I have given him pain killers and antibiotics but he refuses to take them, I can’t even force them down him because he is extremely squirmy. I really do not want to let him go but I am afraid it might be time. Please reply, I just need some reassurance and advice. I’m autistic and I really really don’t know what to do! 💗
The antibiotics also have done nothing to help
Hi, have he been tried on lasix or another diuretic? With rats that age heavy breathing is often due to congestive heart failure, not respiratory infections, and if that’s the case then a high dose of a diuretic will quickly tell you if it’s congestive heart failure because if it is the rat will bounce back within hours. If they do bounce back then they will need to be on diuretics and possible other supportive heart meds for the rest of their lives.
@@ShadowTheRatThanks so much for the reply, no he has never been on any of that. We went to the vet not long ago and she gave us co-trimoxazole which did perk him up for a day or two but he is getting worse. I am going to ring the vet tomorrow and see if I can take him in, I will mention this to them as they never once mentioned heart failure, it has always been about respiratory or cancer. I have been researching his symptoms and have come across videos of heart failure in rats which has very familiar symptoms to my boy x
