Unfortunately there are issues that divide citizens in the U.S and when one side doesn't agree with another, they act upon it. There are endless examples, you just named some of the bad ones. The protesters should have excersised civil disobedience but reacted with action instead, they want change and did whatever they could in there power to recieve it. Was it right, perhaps not. But they were trying to prove a point one way or another.
