    Investment Banking propelled me into an Executive role (in charge of the company's one regional market) at the age of 25. This is not a typical route for investment bankers, but without IB in my resume, I would not be where I am today.

    Hey Brian, I was wondering if you can make a video on “pitch me a stock,” which I heard there’s a high chance of it coming up in interviews. And because of COVID, maybe they’ll do a question like “tell me what’s a good stock to buy right now.” What would be your approach to answering these questions? Thank you!

    Is getting a degree from a non target school a good idea? WGU gives you a degree in a shorter period of time compared to a traditional college and a lot of software engineers recommend this school but I don't know about banking.

    Hey Bryan, thank you for making these videos! How common is it for banks to sponsor an MBA? For example, if you were to spend 2-3 years as an analyst, would many firms sponsor an MBA if you returned to the bank?

    • @Web3Future333
      @Web3Future333 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I know I am pretty young but working in the finance field is my dream. Currently, I am getting good grades and almost all of my extracurriculars are related to business/finance which shows top business schools that I am interested in this career field. • @user-dd9xb1ku6m

      I think it depends on various factors, and possibly a combination of the ones below.
      1. Location:
      If you're based in the US, that would probably be your best bet as banks commonly hire Summer Associates, from what I observe.However if you're based in Singapore like me, Banks rarely hire IB Summer Associates here. So location really depends. If you're in London/Europe, banks could hire if you have a Masters in Finance, and I'm not too sure if IB Summer Associate programs in Europe are a thing there as compared to the US.
      2. Your current job:
      If you're currently working in a corporate development or corporate strategy role at a MNC for example, you may have some exposure to M&A as the MNC you work for might acquire or divest some of their subsidiaries, so that M&A exposure could help. Alternatively if you're working in areas like Credit Ratings, Big 4 accounting (in the transaction advisory or deals teams), those could help too! It really depends on the bank you apply to. BBs tend to be more selective so perhaps try your luck for the mid-markets and botiques.
      3. Your network:
      If you know someone in IB somewhere, that should help.

    For getting into IB after an MBA, someone told me that some MBA schools in the US are "finance" schools, aka the ones that banks target to hire Investment Banking Summer Associates. To the best of your knowledge, which schools are these?
    This person told me that these schools are Wharton, Columbia, Chicago Booth and NYU Stern. Do you know of any others?
    This same person seemed to suggest that if I ever get an offer from any of those 4 finance MBA target schools, I should accept them over other top MBA programs like HBS, Yale, Kellogg, Sloan MIT, Tuck, Haas, Stanford etc. What do you think? Be honest, thanks!

    • @TheBryanJun
      @TheBryanJun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that's true overall, from personal experience I know Kellogg is also very competitive and also every other school you mentioned are amazing schools so I think it's more so that the people that go to those MBAs do things outside of finance, not that finance world doesn't pick from those schools purposefully

    What do you think are some good non IB jobs to apply to (in finance or other) for econ majors that are recent grads? I'm graduating next year and don't really want to go to grad school and I was unable to land an internship. I'm really freaking out right now. I know I won't be able to go straight in to IB but I just want to get my foot in the door somehow. I go to UCSD and had one of the worst academic years of my life this year so my gpa took a hit. I know my chances of getting into an elite mba program are slim to none.

    • @longjiD
      @longjiD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey I’m not Bryan but I do share some similar circumstances with you, I’m also an Econ major and I’m graduating next month; I used to have a first class but unfortunately dropped to a 2:1 just last semester so I’m probably graduating with that. Unlike you tho I have a fair amount of internships under my belt about 9 months of work experience in total and I’ve already got another one lined up for after I graduate. I think first you need to take a breadth you’ve still got a whole year before grad which is enough time to land an internship it doesn’t even need to be anywhere big but just having on your CV that you’ve worked somewhere would be a huge boost even if it’s just a month. There’s also a lot of time for you to get your grades up something I can’t do. As for places to apply to there’s corporate finance and merchant/commercial banks also audit firms like KPMG that are always looking for interns. If all else fails you could also try to land an internship after your graduation like me this will be really helpful to you cus at least by the time you’ve completed the internship you won’t be a total noob to the corporate and business world and you’ll have a feel for working in an office and all that. Bottom line try for an internship whenever you can doesn’t matter where or how long heck even your local supermarket is something, once again can’t stress how much it’ll boost you as a person and your CV. Hope this was helpful and sorry it’s so long.

      @@longjiD Thank you brotha! That was very helpful information. Makes me feel like less of a failure lol.
