    i think brand name means quite a bit unfortunately. before i interned at a bulge bracket bank (not in IB, but in finance), i had nothing on my resume of value (had internships, but small and local companies that no one outside the area knew) and networking was tough. maybe a placebo, but once i put my title in my linkedin title, i found a lot more people answering my messages and willing to chat on the phone.just my experience, would love to know what others think!

    Hey Bryan, I'm studying in HK, and want to get in IB (boutique/MM/BB), but my Uni has no alumni that got an IB job without a master. I have two options now and really don't know which is better. One of them is taking industrial placements and then defer graduation for one year, another one is to take a master degree in UK/US (target schools hopefully). Thanks in advance :)

      For example my uni is not a target one and I have applied to JPMorgan NY this term for the next summer and I already passed many interviews, now I am just waiting three weeks to know if I get the last one and get an offer. But I would highly recommend you to do an amazing CV (be direct on what do you want) and don't mix much about wanting to go IB, PE and HF, Investment in general or Risk management (found out that many people do, but make you look insecure about what do you really want). Secondly, study the firm you are applying to, nothing makes them feel like gods when you know their recent news or what distinguish them from the other top ones.

I’m at a multinational investment bank in equity research for my summer internship but I low key feel like the exit opps in EQ arent as good as IB. I think I wanna do VC so I’m just wondering if it makes a difference if I do EQ or IB.

    • @TheBryanJun
      @TheBryanJun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a friend who exited to EQ after IB - I think it comes down to your personality / what you're looking for in a job as well as public vs. private markets. I'd say IB exit opps are probably wider, but if you go into EQ you're probably looking for a specific type of role and any exit will be similar (HF-ish roles too)

    • @rhyssharp9673
      @rhyssharp9673 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They've opened up a FO scheme now, essentially you apply to the regular operations one then you can get moved to IBD departments like M&A, ECM, DCM, ER etc etc depending on like ur performance in the operations one - so essentially you wouldn't have to wait until after you could do it as an apprentice.
      If you're talking about doing it after the appren (i.e. doing ops for 4 years then tryna go IBD) I wouldn't imagine that it's impossible but it would be harder as you wouldn't have any direct IBD experience, which ofc for a bank like JPM is def required. But as I said it won't be impossible if you network right, maybe manage to squeeze a small rotation within an IBD team within ur appren even if you don't manage to make the direct move.

I'd be very confused if it was you can apply straight to an FO Apprenticeship (because let's be honest if that existed in JPM who would apply to their operations programme lol).
