Martin has an incredible voice and range. One of the best singers I have ever heard. Didn't appreciate as much back in the 1980s when I was a teenager. Always loved this song of theirs, 1986, I believe.

Never for a moment do find myself ever growing tired of "Be Near Me." Never! The rhythm, its airy surround sound-I could go on. And even though it has all that, the keyboard will forever rise above all else. Laced with a silver streak, it holds up the entire song directly down the middle. Its changing format is mind-boggling! For example: the first bridge section keyboard has its moment, sound, its place. It then changes a bit on the second bridge in its pattern (on key, medium, fast, somewhat offbeat). @gloriaelenaimperatore4222 I was born in '83, but I experienced enough of the 80s to miss it. I have two brothers who are 6 and 9 years older than me and whatever they were into or did, I was right there for it. I'm grateful for their influence on me, otherwise I would've missed out on practically everything that was happening at the time. I miss the summers spent together at our family's cabin, Air Force squadron picnics, sitting in the living room with my brothers and watching music videos on MTV., my brothers reading their comic books to me and our younger sister, going trick or treating in Air Force Base housing, watching Star Trek the Next Generation on Saturday nights together. I always thought that when we all grew up that we'd all have kids of our own and they'd be close with each other like we all were together and with our cousins. Not how life went, but when I listen to songs like this I'm taken back to how we all were then and it makes me smile to myself.
Great 80s music, wonderful, we used to listen to it, watch the videos on MTV, when they actually showed music videos and not the BS that they show now. It was great, we had fun doing that and built some amazing memories through this music. Timeless music that still brings back all those amazing memories through sound and video.
I love this song and video - so simple yet so joyous and nostalgic. While I appreciate 'The Lexicon of Love,' I think it's a shame how it totally overshadowed ABC's subsequent output. I feel that 'Beauty Stab' is underrated (and has become notorious as a 'career destroying' album), but 'How to be a Zillionaire' is my favourite. I love the 80s, and, for me, that album has the most 80s feel in terms of music and vibe, plus I love how a lot of the songs are mid- or up-tempo dancefloor tracks, especially the sampling on 'How to Be a Millionaire' - my favourite ABC song. I miss those days so much. 😥
I remember this, like it was yesterday working at Miller's Outpost! Hitting the malls, cruising Bob's Big Boy, the Boulevard.. How many of you can say that today..
I was 3 years old in 1985 and boy what a flashback these songs are to long lost feelings and memories. I find it very fascinating the way a young child's brain receives pure sensory inputs like these without fully developed mental and linguistic constructs. Many important things get lost as we grow older and the vale of this world tends to blind us from the truth, ourselves, and each other.
This takes me back to being a very young child, with out the stress and drama that being an adult can bring. It also rerminds me of my mother who passed two years ago. Sad and happy memories rolled into one song.
I've been listening to this song since I was 5. It's probably by number one favorite ever! I love Martin's voice and Mark's keyboarding (they're both so good-looking too). But my number one favorite thing about this song is the way the sounds come together - the piano, bells, beat, lyrics....the effect is amazing and just puts me in a blissful mood.
Man... I've been saying for many years now that Alive and Kicking is my favorite video from the 80s. But THIS one's near the top of my list too! Delightful to the max. Love how the director knew what details of each person to zoom in on and what angles to use to bring out the essence of it all. Memories of this make you tear up.
I wish today's kids could experience the 80s like we did. So much fun fashion, so much great music. No social media! Yet we still found ways to connect over bands we liked!
This song brings back so many great memories growing up as a teenager in the '80s hanging out at the arcade in the mall and the old teenage nightclub area code 313 in Waterford, Michigan always dreaming and wishing that girls would talk to me! ✨🤩👌🏾
I kinda agree with you.i lived the 60s 70s&80s,......even the 90s were good times socially.......been there done that.who knows maybe time dose repeat itself and we get lucky to be with dinosaurs again.
theoneaft I feel the same 1000 percent. This song makes me so happy and melancholy at the same time. The beat and lyrics are not just upbeat but infectious. I can't explain it. The video is simple and understated yet visually brilliant at the same time.
I was just thinking.... As much as I love the band, I wanna give big hugs and kisses to all the people behind the scenes... the video director, conceptual engineers, makeup, etc. They brought everything together. Thank you for giving us the final video product!
Me too, as I was in HS during the mid-late 1980s. Even in the 90s I felt most anything was possible. Then the 2000s happened. And everything I knew & learned was immediately rendered obsolete. And everything I loved was destroyed.
My dear brother said this recently: The 1980s was a better decade for music than many people acknowledge. I agree. ABC was one of my favorite groups.

0:31 classic Martin Fry. Hamming it up 🕺🏼
I remember this, like it was yesterday working at Miller's Outpost! Hitting the malls, cruising Bob's Big Boy, the Boulevard..
How many of you can say that today..
💯% 80s music. One of the greatest times for music lovers
Definitely
I was 3 years old in 1985 and boy what a flashback these songs are to long lost feelings and memories. I find it very fascinating the way a young child's brain receives pure sensory inputs like these without fully developed mental and linguistic constructs. Many important things get lost as we grow older and the vale of this world tends to blind us from the truth, ourselves, and each other.
I was listening when it came out! What a fab decade for my 20s. The 80s had it all. You can't go wrong w these guys and the rest...it was a wild time.
This takes me back to being a very young child, with out the stress and drama that being an adult can bring. It also rerminds me of my mother who passed two years ago. Sad and happy memories rolled into one song.
Same here 100%
I lost my mom almost 3 years ago. It still hurts. I don't think we ever get over missing them.
@@mchris8142 Lost my mom over 33 years ago ... I still miss her to this day. Some losses you never get over.
My fondest memories are shopping with my mom and listening to the radio on our drive there. So many great 80s songs. She’s gone as well.
The 80's was glorious. This is the prof. If you weren't there, you missed out. I cranked up the volume, when ever this came on the radio. Thank you.
Love ABC 80's fan
I've been listening to this song since I was 5. It's probably by number one favorite ever! I love Martin's voice and Mark's keyboarding (they're both so good-looking too). But my number one favorite thing about this song is the way the sounds come together - the piano, bells, beat, lyrics....the effect is amazing and just puts me in a blissful mood.
1:40 Those piano phrases makes me feel the song : )
the message is perfectly simple
the meaning is clear !!!!!!!!!
80s was great
well said indeed was aweome
eduardo leon .........all a dream...........
Very well said long live the 80s
Man... I've been saying for many years now that Alive and Kicking is my favorite video from the 80s. But THIS one's near the top of my list too! Delightful to the max. Love how the director knew what details of each person to zoom in on and what angles to use to bring out the essence of it all. Memories of this make you tear up.
the message is clear! yo moma
THIS SONG REMINDS ME OF WHEN MY LATE WIFE AND I FIRST MEET, MISS HER SO MUCH.
Oh bless you James how lovely xoxo
THANK YOU SO MUCH LOVELY LADY, MAY GOD BE WITH YOU
i wish you good health and everything else will follow....peace.
sorry to hear that man hope you're always fine..
Sorry for your loss.
I'm 60 and love listening to this! ❤
I wish today's kids could experience the 80s like we did. So much fun fashion, so much great music. No social media! Yet we still found ways to connect over bands we liked!
I heard this song in the Applebee's bathroom and have loved it ever since
This song is a classic! ABC were fantastic! The 80's were the greatest decade of all time!
This song brings back so many great memories growing up as a teenager in the '80s hanging out at the arcade in the mall and the old teenage nightclub area code 313 in Waterford, Michigan always dreaming and wishing that girls would talk to me! ✨🤩👌🏾
Such artistry in the movement, to the clothes, to the idea of the video, and of course the music itself. Just amazing; timeless
Una delle più belle voci di sempre ABC immensi.....
Vero .io sono nato nell 80 e li ascolto da quando ne ho 20 .come tanti altri degli anni 80.

This instantly takes me to 1985... When I think of 85 this is the song ..
Being in love today is not the same as in the 80s. This is a reminder of how lucky we were

I loved this as a kiddo. I love and appreciate it a million times more as 41 year old adult. Phenomenal song! I love it!
The type of music we need to hear in 2020!!
One of the most beautiful love songs from 80s.
One of my favorite ABC songs!! Takes me back to good and care free days!! 😂❤
I love this song. It makes me happy every time I heard it. Do you feel the same?
Me too! et aussi "the look of love"....."To be a belionnaire".
theoneaft I feel the same 1000 percent. This song makes me so happy and melancholy at the same time. The beat and lyrics are not just upbeat but infectious. I can't explain it. The video is simple and understated yet visually brilliant at the same time.
So true
Always ! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😁😁
Yes!
All my Dreams came to Last night , the message is perfectly simple, wow music and letters maybe never back again
What's your reputation? Ecstasy
What's your destination? Next to me
I was just thinking.... As much as I love the band, I wanna give big hugs and kisses to all the people behind the scenes... the video director, conceptual engineers, makeup, etc. They brought everything together. Thank you for giving us the final video product!
Yes, this one is one of my top 10 of all time fave videos. Priceless, the song, album, band, video and 1985
the golden decade of music. dunno what tf happened but it's gone now since almost 20 yrs ago
So glad this was my music in High School, it still makes me believe anything is possible! I missed the 80's!!
Me too, as I was in HS during the mid-late 1980s. Even in the 90s I felt most anything was possible. Then the 2000s happened. And everything I knew & learned was immediately rendered obsolete. And everything I loved was destroyed.
I'm ready to go back in time after COVID19 when I hear songs like this
