This is so interesting because I’ve never heard these lyrics to this song. But beside his trademark shtick of flashing the whites of his eyes and clapping his hands together, I was pleasantly surprised at how graceful and delicate his dancing was, the alternative to George M. Coen’s gung-ho style.
I will give him that. Less bombast than Cohan or Al Jolsen (who always seemed to be playing to the back of the theater, even on film). I guess it's the eye thing in combo with the lyrics that get me. What other performers or specific performances would you like to see me react to?
@@DarlingReacts You did see Cohan? There is only one sound film he is in The Phantom President. How many Al Jolson movies have you seen? Did you see him live? or Eddie Cantor There is indication in what Cantor. or Jolson did that was over the top, but not always. That is described in the times we live in, as forced outsized. hammy playing to the galleries. etc etc but Elvis. Mick Jagger/ Madona/Freddie Mercury/ Robbie Williams. Michael Jackson etc etc who have done that bust your self thing , actually more than Jolson/ Cantor did in their time., as electric, dynamic/captivating etc etc! How most people react to anything, anybody. is dependent on how it is presented to them, not having an understanding of it. Those that control what we like, or not, are ALWAYS GOING TO PUT DOWN THOSE OF THE WAY BACK PAST/ IT'S OBVIOUS WHY/ CORPSES DONT BUY ANYTHING!
I don't doubt that it's entertain for some (most?) people but Cantor has always irritated me. It's my channel and so I call it as I see it. Are there any other Cantor performances you'd recommend I'd watch?
I completely disagree with your assessment of Eddie Cantor. He was famous for his eyes as well as his fabulous talent as a comedian, singer and dancer - all at an elite level. Check out Cantor’s 1944 rendition of “Makin’ Whoopee” from the RKO film “Show Business” (RKO, 1944). I think it’s much more palatable for non Cantor believers.
Usually I am very favorable to everything I react to but for some reason (maybe I was in a bad mood) this really annoyed me. What's another performance (different song) I could look at?

Just great entertaining fun. Your concerned about contemporary acceptance!
