    PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
Prospex Tuna Professional 1,000m Divers Collection
This watch shape is affectionately nicknamed by Seiko fans as a ‘Tuna’ - because of its larger diameter and bold shape like a tuna tin - loved for decades since its release.
The accordion-style silicone strap combines high durability and comfort - a strap design invented by Seiko in 1975 as a practical solution to the expansion and contraction of a diver's wrist at different depths.
This model features simplified indices making it easy to read underwater.
Plus its case back shows the new ISO standard stating it's diver's watch capability and metre depth for saturation diving.
In a 2020 watch industry first, the grade of stainless steel in this watch, Seiko’s “Ever-Brilliant Steel,” is more corrosion-resistant than in most luxury watches today and only usually used in the marine industry.
Seiko Prospex watches are designed for sports lovers and adventure seekers in the water, in the sky or on land.
Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards.
    Model Specification: SLA042J1
The watch has a stainless steel case and silicone strap. The case measures at 52.4 mm in diameter and has rose-gold detailing throughout.
An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the black dial. The black and rose-gold bezel is unidirectional.
The large hands and rounded hour-markers are luminescent.
    Water-resistant to 1000 metres or 100 bars.
Features on the model include a screw-down crown and a stop-seconds hand function.
Movement type - Automatic with a power reserve of up to 50 hours. The watch is accurate up to +15 to -10 seconds per day
    Calibre - 8L35

Excellent review as always! Seiko tunas are just so unique and unbelievably hardy.
I believe the bezel insert for tunas are acrylic or some form of plastics. When it gets scratched, polywatch works on it, though the frosting will pretty much be removed along with the scratches.
The only tuna I know that has a different bezel insert is probably the SLA041 - which is either in aluminium or ceramic.

I love the Tunas. Have owned several ones myself. They definitely wear a lot better than case dimensions may suggest. In my experience and side by side comparison to a SRP Turtle, the truth looks larger than the Tuna. Excellent watches and I don't mind the excellent quartz version, either. Solid watches and maybe Seiko's best Lumibrite application.
Some might not be aware that this was a 007 Bond watch.. at least its variant from the 80s. Can be seen in the underwater scenes in "For Your Eyes Only".

@@ClickSpringReview quite possibly. From that particular movie, I remember the golden tuna the most. It inspired me to pick up a modern version. A more affordable solar version. But, it looks quite close to the original one.. actually even more wearable as it is thinner and maybe a tad smaller in diameter.

@@ClickSpringReview Look forward to your comparison video! I also have the 300-m version (SBBN015) but I think the 1000-m quartz version wears better due to its shorter springbar to springbar distance. I have tried on the automatic version, but It's just too thick & too big for my wrist...
