Did you know? Just outside Pofadder there is a testing facility that belongs to VW/Audi. They do speedtests with their new cars on the road between Pofadder and Kakamas, but they camouflaged the cars so you cannot really see how it looks like(taped the lights and stuff like that) And their security at the facility are very strict,no outsiders allowed there, you are not even allowed to fly over it with an aeroplane or helicopter.
It's great that our video reminded you of such a special person in your life. Thank you for watching! 😊🚗 I can hear that you love this part of our country and I completely understand why! 🇿🇦
In the early 1960's from Durban to SWA, me 10 years old, only dirt roads, hot as hell, my adventurous spirited driver gran in her Mini Cooper S, Pofadder only had a filling station with a red coke freezer. She handbrake turned when I shouted there it is and placed the car right next to the freezer! Only 2 cokes, which we grabbed. The rest of the family arriving a little later in the Chev had to drink fanta, which they detested. My mom hated gran's driving cos her precious son was in the car, grinning from ear to ear...rated as the epic journey of my life it was the standard for all that followed. The town itself I absolutely do not recall, but here we are.
That scene could be the script of the new Coke ad, love it! 😁🚗 How lucky you were to have had a gran with such a spirit and sense of adventure. You're truly blessed to have such a memory, which I'm sure isn't the only one by a long shot! I'm glad that our video brought this specific one back. 😎
@@DustBugsTravel My gran was wonderful. Loved rally driving. A glamorous gorgeous 60 something still looking and living like she was in her forties. My last drive with her when she picked me at boarding school in her E-Type - my school mates were gobsmacked; expected a blue rinsed old bat in an Austin or something - was in 1969. Died in her sleep at a good age. Deeply missed.
I am 85 and grew up in the bushmanland , although I think I was in Pofadder only 2 or 3 times . The town was very small , not even a bank.So we went to school in Springbok , which was bigger , bigger schools , quite a few good shops etc. I am so unbelievably nostalgic sometime , miss that dry world , which can after good rain turn into the Garden of the Gods. You must have grown up there to really understand the strong bond you have with that world. We were so absolutely free , oh so wonderful !! "My hart verlang na die stilte, Na die wye wuiwende veld So ver van die stads geluide En die klinkende klank van geld......"HEIMWEE (S. Le Roux Marais) I sincerely hope you enjoy your trip....Blessings. Rita Rentzke
Definitely named after the Korana (Khoikhoi) chief Klaas Pofadder, village established in 1875 by Christian Schroeder, a missionary. Became a municipality in 1936. Believe the building next to the magistrate office was the old prison/goal......? My sleep over if I visit my friend in Springbok
Thank you for the clarification of the origin of the name and for the other info! 👍🏻I'm not sure about the building next to the Magistrate's Office. We chatted to local policemen and they said it was a Public Works building before. We did ask about cells too, but they said they've always been where the Police Station is now and it used to be a large house before the new facility was built. It would be interesting to know for sure though. 🤷🏼♂️ You must've stayed over there quite a few times already. It's a place with a certain kind of charm which I can't quite put my finger on. 😁🚗
Hi guys puffadder a town that is the butt of jokes ended up being a surprise loved the voortrekker wagon and monument old magorstrates buildings the two church the old one with the mullion windows and square saxon tower was unusual and the cherry on the cake the hotel spotless pool looked so inviting thanks for another great video cheerio till the next one
I'm so glad you enjoyed the little tour of Pofadder. Let me tell you, that pool looked super inviting and quite a few guests were splashing around while we were there. 🏊🏻 I thought the two church buildings linking the old and the new were fantastic and so well-maintained. The garden with no lawns, but sand and soil instead, added so much character to this already-fantastic scene. 💒 The church tower was unusual, I thought you might notice that! It was great fun having you and the Mrs take a drive through Pofadder with us. 🚗🐍
I'm glad we could take you to Pofadder with us! It's funny that we don't realise the poor condition of the roads while we're travelling, but we saw how bad they actually were once I started editing. Some serious potholes in some places! 😨🛣️ Glad you enjoyed the drone shots, I was glad that it was a windless day and I was able to fly a little. And the rugged beauty you spoke about! It's everywhere! 🤩🚗
This town reminds me of outback Queensland (Australia ) towns with their wide streets and classic old stone buildings. Even the same Eucalypt trees! Also they have a hospital which I hope they can staff unlike here where staff are in short supply. Even the drone footage shows scenery almost identical to those areas. Take care on your travels!!
It's always interesting to me when you compare these arid areas in South Africa to similar ones in Australia and it makes me look forward to the day that we'll be able to go and explore those areas in your country too. I must admit that I was surprised to read that you also have hospitals which are short-staffed. It must be because of the utter remoteness of and harsh conditions in these areas. It's not for everyone, I'm sure! 😏🚗
I saw a glimpse of Aus Farmer seeks wife or something. The one farmhouse reminds me of a typical Karoo farmhouse! Worlds apart but the same long before internet!
@@vanzylkoegelenberg9199 Yes it does. I must say that I am very impressed with SA. Love the country and love the fantastic scenery. I am sure one day if things get sorted it will be one of the best countries in the world. Hopefully I will get there to see it (I am 66yo ).
Thank-you for showcasing Pofadder, as you say a town or place that many South African's have spoken about ...a kind of "folkloric" place and yes Putsonderwater too. How true are those words on the Voortrekker Monument...applicable to then, now and our future. The Church was impressive, it is the graphic or visual of those aforementioned words. The past and the future linked together. Some impressive homes and buildings in the town too including the High School. The quirky convenience store at the petrol station speaks volumes for the town, I am sure that those cars standing outside, as the oxwagon does too, have many stories to tell. The hotel looked great too, a refreshing and inviting pool, fully booked...no doubt that the solar farms are contributing to the town. The mine financing the hospital is a great business model that should be implemented in more towns. Good Healthcare can only be a boost for any town. Congratulations 🎊 👏 on reaching 10 000 + (now) subscribers and over 2 million views🙂
@funk dunk The plaque on the Voortrekker Monument really hit home. A keen observation on your part to tie those words into the past, present and future of the church just down the road. Love that! The old and more modern church buildings are almost seamlessly linked and they were really wonderful to see. 💒 We were in town on a Saturday afternoon and the CBD (😁) was busier than we expected. We saw quite a few contractors in town and also at the hotel, so the solar and other projects in the surrounding areas must be giving the town quite the financial boost which is fantastic. It was great to see a medical facility sponsored by the mine and one which offers such extensive services. Sonia especially is always very concerned about how these folks in remote towns access medical care when they need it. I'm sure that will always remain a challenge in these outlying areas. 🤷🏼♂️ We appreciate you celebrating 10k and 2m with us. 🤩🥳 We still can't believe it every time those numbers change. It's so cool to have you on board. 😁🚗
Pofadder... what a clean town. Cleaner than Pella in the end. Yes there were waste but minimal. And that church. How fantastic the new were added to the old. So, so beautiful. Drove past there a few times but this was the first time I have actualy seen the town. Thanks. Soooo onwards travelers.
Pofadder was really clean and neat and we always enjoy driving through a place where the residents clearly take pride in their town. 👌 I'm glad you also loved the church, it must be the first time that we've seen old and new combined like that and so beautifully as well! 💒 Like you, we've also driven past before, but we're so glad we got to explore the town this time around. Now we can really say we've been to Pofadder! 😁🚗
I have a little online business and most of my customers are from these little towns you visit, including Poffader , I get to courier my merchandise to them and I'm always fascinated by these little towns I've never heard of, most of the time I like to Google them , but thank you for bringing them to life for me...
How special, thank you for sharing that with us! As it makes a difference putting a face to a voice, I can only imagine how cool it must be for you to put a picture to the name of a town. Awesome that you also have clients in Pofadder, the town did look like a hive of activity to us, even on this hot Saturday afternoon. We did visit quite a few shops to purchase some delicacies, all in the name of stimulating the local economy. 👌 We appreciate you coming to Pofadder with us! 😁🚗
Hi you two! I enjoyed this introduction to Pofadder. A real desert town, but not deserted. I'm glad you could send up the drone again, with no less than The Blue Danube as background! The aerial view really shows the nature of the town. I'm sure the Pofadders will Be Strong! and keep their community growing. With efforts such as the big school, the health facilities etc. it seems they have the intention to. Keep safe!
Most certainly not a deserted desert town! 😁 The activity in town itself and at the hotel surprised us, we were expecting a place a little sleepier. I know you always enjoy the drone shots and I was happy that I could do it here, I just loved the view from up there. No lush lawns, but barren beauty instead and equally as beautiful! 😍 I forgot to film the cuppas in our hotel room the morning we left, but I have an excuse this time! Loadshedding was imminent and we had to get the kettle to boil before it was lights out and in the haste, I forgot. I missed the them when I was editing! 😁☕
The store that burnt down at 14 : 18 was the Chinese store that traded under the name Liwang Supermarket. In earlier years it used to be the von Weilligh store.
I just love the big wide open spaces of SA. Being out in the wide open let's your brain relax and your thoughts expand to fill up the sky. The perfect antidote to craziness. Drive on friends!
Sonia can't remember if the olives were pitted or not on this occasion. Luckily her teeth are still all intact! 😬 She says that pizza would've been worth a little chip though. 😁🍕
Hi Curtis and Sonia, Thanks for showing Pofadder, was good to see the town again and as usual a excellent coverage by a primo team. And congratulations on reaching 10K, well done. Roads are munted, even the main road with severe crocodile cracking will require TLC soon, crack sealing can only do só much to hold it together. Question the cost of crack sealing vs chipsealing the main road. But the rest of the town seems to be in good shape. Roes in vrede. Frans
Thank you for celebrating 10k with us! 🍾🥳 I was rather shocked to see all the previous patching on the approach road into town and also the condition of the roads in the town itself, I didn't quite realise it at the time we were driving around. 😳🛣️ I agree that maintenance and repairs are urgently required there. Love that you noticed the license plate, such a sense of humour! 😍🚗 Thanks for driving through Pofadder with the two of us!
Travelled through this region a number of times in the 90's, it's one of my favourite parts of SA, the stark scenic beauty & the unique flora is breath-taking. It reminds me a lot of outback towns in northern Australia.
Stunning music that goes with the beautiful landscape! I especially liked the waltzing tune from Richard Strauss! I called it the town with the prominent wind pomp which one in the olden days saw first when traveling the dust road! Thanks Curtis and Sonja!
I can believe that and you seem to have exactly the opposite weather at the moment! 🌧️ It's a fascinating part of South Africa and so incredibly beautiful in its starkness. ⛰️🇿🇦
This video took me down memory lane, In 2016 I was there with UK and SA-based film production companies for 7 days shooting a UK-based film and we stayed at the same Hotel. Ever since that year, I told myself I would embark on a road trip to fully explore that area, you beautifully covered most of it. Good content, love it.
A neat clean town. Your drone footage showed that it bigger than what I expected very nice. Loved your accomadation. That pool looked so inviting. Thank you go safe on your way.
The pool looked so cool on that rather hot day! Quite a few hotel guests were getting relief from the summer sun! 🏊🏻☀️ I was glad that I could fly the drone that day to give that perspective from above. I particularly loved the fact that it was so different from the towns we normally see with green lawns, but yet still very beautiful! I'm happy that you enjoyed visiting Pofadder with us! 😁🚗
Ah! Pofadder! The butt of so many jokes. Always wanted to see what it looks like. The curio shop is very interesting. I can still remember those old cash registers being in use. Ja, Putsonderwater, my parents used to say Putsondergat, dont know if there is such a place, we always used to say far as Ugudugu, I believe there is actually such a place out in the Sahara. So good to see the Voortrekkermonument. I was thinking the church buildings must be the same church, old and new buildings. Pofadder Hotel seems quite agtermekaar too. And that pizza looks divine. Thank you for showing us Pofadder
Yup, we also wanted to see what Pofadder actually looks like and it was quite a cool experience to explore the town. Putsondergat sounds even more remote than Putsonderwater, that's like really a non-starter! 🤣 Never heard the Ugudugu one, but my Google searched delivered Ouagadougou, which is the capital of Burkina Faso and located in the Sahara desert, so it must be that one and it just got shortened to Ugudugu. I can totally understand why too with such a name! 😨 The church buildings were indeed the old and new buildings of the same church and so beautifully amalgamated in those sandy grounds. I'm happy we could show you Pofadder through our eyes! 🐍🚗
Afternoon DustBugs Travellers- Have you been to Umkomaas in KZN yet? I would love to see the rural mountain side there... I am really enjoying your videos, most towns I won't even get to... but thanks to you guys, I get to see our whole beautiful country. Thanks a million
We haven't quite made it to KZN just yet, but it's on our list for 2023. I've made a note of Umkomaas and I hope to include it in our route on a future trip to the province. 👌🏻 We're glad to hear you enjoy our videos, thank you! We look forward to taking you to many more places with us! 🚗🇿🇦
@Sam_L Lungu I think if you add just a few zero's to your 2️⃣, you'll be close! 😁 It has a barren beauty all its own and we loved it. Glad you could join us! 🐍🚗

Wow, what an interesting place! We loved visiting and looking at all the interesting items on display in the shop. Your gran is a very talented lady! 🤩 Thank you for sharing this and your town with us! 😁🚗
Not sure when you were there, but there are two filling stations now. The one was closed, but luckily the other one was open for business. We may have been in a world of trouble had it been closed too! 😨🚗

A few guests were chilling in the pool because it was hot in Pofadder that day! 🥵🌊 We had a great stay for the last night of our trip through Namaqualand. 😁🚗
Living in Aggenys our cars were licensed in Poffadder, went there in the real dry years and the whole town was closed for biduur to pray for rain couldn't even get ice in water in that hour.
I tested my translation skills on the board before reading your version. I got most of it, except I didn't realise "Ys" was spelled that way. I didn't know "mix", only "nix". I had no idea what "Beskikbadr" was, so I learned something! Hello from Australia. I've also head of Pofadder, mainly because it's named after the meanest snake in Africa, and will be travelling through there on my holiday soon, so thanks for the video!
The surrounding desert is doing its best to reclaim the tarred roads 😂 It was great seeing the hotel - I am sure my now deceased parents stayed there on one of their many trips around SA - years before they emigrated. I wished I could have asked them if my recollection is accurate. It’s always exciting when you put your drone in fight mode! I know it’s not always possible, weather wise. This was so enjoyable, it’s making me yearn to do a trip. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences with us!
Yup, the tarred roads looked very bad on our footage when I started editing. They didn't look like that to us in real-life though as we were travelling in the area, but that's just because we seem to zone out anything even remotely negative when we travel. We don't even realise we do it! 🤣 It would've been nice if you could've known for sure if your parents stayed at the same hotel. It's clearly been around for many years, so I would imagine there is a high likelihood that it's indeed the same place! 🤗 I'm glad you enjoyed the drone footage, I also enjoy it so much and will definitely try to fly it more in 2023! I hope you get to travel in reality too this year and not only virtually! 😁🚗 Until such time, you're welcome to stay firmly put on our backseat!

You're so very welcome. 😊 We love it that you enjoy taking all these trips with us from the comfort of your home without too much backache we hope! The constant getting in and out of a vehicle are movements Sonia struggles with because of her knees, so she especially feels your pain. 🤗 You have every right to be proud to be from the Namaqualand region. The beauty is rugged and stark, but incredible and magnificent all the same and we loved all the places we got to see during this trip. Make yourself comfortable in that armchair of yours, we have lots more places to go! 😁🚗
I'd say! 🥵 We dreaded loadshedding that evening without an aircon or fan in our hotel room. A few hotel guests were splashing about in the pool for relief! 😁
I went to Calvinia meat festival last month stopped at Trawal on the way there it is approximately 20kms before Van Ryns Dorp it is famous for biktong dry wors most probably sell a ton a week because on the way back to Caoe Town all the meat that was hanging was sold over the weekend.
Hi you guys i really enjoyed this video. I passed Pofadder 2 times during my travels to the mines and Hondeklip but did not stop. Was way toooo hot! Can imagine there is just a polonieskil between Pofadder and the hell this time of the year. My question is, is it the same hotel were the owners was involved in a murder about 2 or 3 years ago? I remember something like that i read on the news. Safe travel and looking forward to the next episode
We were there in December and it was pretty hot! 🥵 I would think it's even warmer now! ☀️We've also just filled up for fuel in Pofadder until this trip and are we glad that we stayed over! Good question about the Pofadder murder. I read up a little about that this morning and it was indeed the owner of the Pofadder Hotel, Leon Brits, who was murdered in October 2020. The hotel had been in his family for 20+ years. I believe he was found in a swimming pool at home. 😨 Thank you for turning off the N14 with us to explore Pofadder! 😎🚗
The story I was given was the Claus poffadder. Slept over at the caravan park and a magnificent breakfast at the tys nywereid shop in the main street. Did you see the old car ? Came to me as *"Tot hier en nie verder nie"* quite poinent. What struck me was that despite the abject polity, all the people seemed so content
Yes, we believe the Klaas Pofadder story is indeed the correct version, thank you! 👍🏻 We saw two old, rusty cars at the one filling station. Yours could most certainly be a license plate too, but currently the one says in Afrikaans 'Rust in Peace'. Thought that was cool as well! 🚗😎 As we always do, we chatted to quite a few locals and most of them have lived in the town and the area for a long time and wouldn't trade it for the world! We chatted to one young lady who arrived in town six months prior to our visit and she was still struggling to acclimatise to the town though. I'm sure it's a harsh enviroment and one may struggle to adapt at first.
Thank you, I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy our travels! For us, it's fantastic having you on board! 😁🚗 We don't organise tours, we still work full-time and I just plan our own routes for the week we get to travel every five weeks. I honestly don't think there are tour operators who cover all the smaller towns of South Africa, but I'm really not sure. 🤷🏼♂️🇿🇦
I know a bowser as being a trailer with a tank mounted on it with a pump mechanism, similar to a conventional petrol pump, for diesel or petrol. I hope this answers your question. 🚗😁
There are many small towns that don't have big grocery stores, so they cope just fine without those. If they can't find what they need locally, they visit bigger centres like Springbok every so often to stock up. 🚗🛒 Some folks are employed by businesses in town and sheep and goat farming is also a big source of employment for the locals, as is the nearby mines and solar farm.
There's a fair chance that the chief of the area's clan name was Poffadder, I think. Consider that a Tswana by name of Rakwena is a "Mr Crocodile", for instance, or a Mrs Ndlovu is a Mrs Elephant. The earliest totem names for clans of humans might've been those of animals (or the myths that grow up round those animals when the stories are told round the fire at night). To a 21st Century person (whether from "west" or "east", "north", or "south") the idea of naming yourself after a "bad thing" sounds strange, but that's just our values. Puff Adders are "bad" because they might bite you. I can think of at least one great Puff Adder virtue (anthropomorphising): a Puff Adder will only "get violent" when it absolutely has to. They're reluctant to strike, and try right to the last minute to rather hide. So you could call them "peaceful-but-don't-mess-with-them" critters. Maybe a Poffadder clan story was that they were very tolerant people right up to the point where pushed too far? And then you give Poff a personality and start telling stories about all the things he does in magickland, when the stars come out, and next thing you know he's exactly the kind of critter the best humans are like.
@sickofthewest Thank you for your comment, which makes a lot of sense. 🐍 My wife, Sonia, practices anthropomorphism in her everyday life and she doesn't care two hoots if anyone ever lifts an eyebrow, so she read your comment with keen interest. I must add she specialises in attributing human characteristics to living, breathing creatures. 😍 She loved your analogy of the puff adder being pushed too far and then strikes and then being accused of being dangerous. This can be said of so many 'dangerous' animals though. But I digress. At least two other viewers report that the name of the town indeed comes from Klaas Pofadder. I still feel he got his name from the 'real' puff adder though, if you know what I mean. 😁🚗
@@DustBugsTravel :D Ja, it''s quite possible that he got given his name by someone else who wasn't completely happy with the way he did his dealings. It makes for a more interesting name if that's the case, anyway.
Oh I forgot my very own puff adder story. Was walking through the veld as a kid, once, finished a step, thought "Something's not quite right", looked back at where my step must've landed - near a hole in the ground, it turns out - with a big puff adder lying right there, dead still. I must have trod within say 100mm of his head. When he saw I'd seen him he kind of "fell into the hole", coil by coil. He didn't bite me, although I almost stood on his head, and I didn't kill him, the way my dad would always kill them (because he did things the old way.)
Great to see the sign for bbq just in Afrikaans. Everyone in Pofadder speaks Afrikaans and any traveller would understand it and if they don't well, what do they do if they travel to Mozambique or another country. Well done Pofadder! Thanks for giving translation to us viewers outside SA. When travelling abroad now I use the google translate photo app and take photos which can translate menus, plaques, signposts into any language, including my own, Welsh.
I just loved that sign, but felt our viewers abroad may not get the sense of humour if I didn't translate it! 😁 Interesting that you use the Google Translate photo app, I haven't heard many viewers mention that actually, but it's such a useful tool to have. 👌🏻🚗
@@DustBugsTravel glad to put the translation up - it gave a real feeling of the nature of the town. I use the google translate app when on holiday - used it to translate plaques and menus and a museum exhibition in Ukraine in Sept. Took photo of the text which was in Ukrainian and it translated into Welsh (or which ever language available on the app, guess Afrikaans is there as well as English, obvs). It's not 100% correct, but it's very good and the technology and language will improve with the more online content there is in that language - that's why it's important for people to have things in Welsh/Afrikaans/isiZulu on internet - google data harvests written content from news sites, Wikipedia etc in those languages. Keep up the interesting videos!
Appropriate music with your 2023 Space Odyssey! Roads are in appalling condition. Some tourist program (could have been yours?) advised never to drive in South Africa at night because you might lose your vehicle in the gigantic potholes everywhere. Thanks for taking me along once more.
Thank you, glad you like the tunes! 😎🎼 The roads were certainly not great, but we only realised it when we watched our footage back, it didn't bother us at all while we were driving around in town. It wasn't our channel you saw that warning on against night-driving, but we're not keen on driving at night either. Our reason isn't potholes as much as safety. With the speeds we drive, we're normally afforded enough reaction time if we should happen upon an unexpected large pothole. 🚗🛣️

It's definitely not a ghost town! People were out-and-about in town and at the hotel. We were there at a very hot time of the year, so people are certainly more prone to staying indoors during the hottest time of the day, which is when we were driving around town. ☀️🚗

You must have grown up there to really understand the strong bond you have with that world. We were so absolutely free , oh so wonderful !!

Finally!!. Seen Pofadder. The roads are gone but the town has its rugged beauty. I loved the aerial view
What a wonderful, all encompassing comment - cannot improve upon it were I to try!
Pofcity is a lekka plek en Leon se garage het baie lekker eetgoette!
It is indeed a great place! 😁🚗 We stopped at both garages to buy treats, so the town was well-supported by these two travellers! 🥪🧁
Baie dankie Van Zyl en ook 'n groot dankie aan die film makers. Dis lekker om te sien dat soveel positiewe kommentaar op ons dorpie is.
Your videos are therapeutic❤️
Thank you for the very kind compliment! 😊🚗
@@DustBugsTravel I will forgive you the cuppas this time!
The store that burnt down at 14 : 18 was the Chinese store that traded under the name Liwang Supermarket. In earlier years it used to be the von Weilligh store.
Appreciate the info. 👍🏻
I L O V E your Music ! It compliments WELL with the scenery . THANK you, wonderlike programme !!!
Thank you, so happy to hear you enjoy our videos and like the tunes! 🚗🎼 We look forward to you travelling to many more places with us!
I just love the big wide open spaces of SA. Being out in the wide open let's your brain relax and your thoughts expand to fill up the sky. The perfect antidote to craziness. Drive on friends!
Dankie vir die deel van nog n Skat op ons lands kaart.
Our pleasure! Pofadder is indeed a treasure and we're so happy that we finally took the time to see the town! Thanks for tagging along! 🚗🇿🇦
Once almost broke a tooth while having exactly the same pizza, as they use non-pitted olives, but agree, the Pofadder Special is delilicious!
Sonia can't remember if the olives were pitted or not on this occasion. Luckily her teeth are still all intact! 😬 She says that pizza would've been worth a little chip though. 😁🍕
Hi Curtis and Sonia,
Thanks for showing Pofadder, was good to see the town again and as usual a excellent coverage by a primo team.
Lovely to see again. Have a long association with Pofadder with family living in the area. Thank you.
I'm glad our visit to Pofadder reminded you of people close to you. Thank you for coming along! 😊🚗
Travelled through this region a number of times in the 90's, it's one of my favourite parts of SA, the stark scenic beauty & the unique flora is breath-taking. It reminds me a lot of outback towns in northern Australia.
Genade mense daai plek is warm 🥵
That's no lie! 🥵 We had a tough time during loadshedding that night. No fan, no aircon, just heat! 🤣
Jy stel dit so mooi en lig! Lol en innie winter woes koud met a lui koue wind oor die vlakktes. Daar Aggenys/Koavalei kant toe ook
Stunning music that goes with the beautiful landscape! I especially liked the waltzing tune from Richard Strauss! I called it the town with the prominent wind pomp which one in the olden days saw first when traveling the dust road! Thanks Curtis and Sonja!
Drove through the town in 1991.
Miss that dry sunny country.
From a very wet overcast New Zealand.
I can believe that and you seem to have exactly the opposite weather at the moment! 🌧️ It's a fascinating part of South Africa and so incredibly beautiful in its starkness. ⛰️🇿🇦
Wow!! It shure has grown in the last 40 years. Thank you.🙃👍👀
Beautiful stone buildings
Agreed! For some reason, they always call us closer and we answer every time! The workmanship back in the day was unbelievable! 😍🏛️
Nice one thanks guys.
Appreciate that, thank you! 😁🚗
Great to see Pofadder, the town where my mom was born! Some of those rusted cars were probably still on the road when she was a kid!
I love your work and I enjoy watching your videos.....❤❤❤❤
@@DustBugsTravel I think it's just my shaky spelling!

Halfpad tussen Verdwaal en Verwurg, ja! 😂. Once needed to fill up there, but the petrol station, as everything else, was closed, in broad daylight.
Not sure when you were there, but there are two filling stations now. The one was closed, but luckily the other one was open for business. We may have been in a world of trouble had it been closed too! 😨🚗

Beautiful pool at the hotel and the accommodation 👌👌👌👌
The surrounding desert is doing its best to reclaim the tarred roads 😂
It was great seeing the hotel - I am sure my now deceased parents stayed there on one of their many trips around SA - years before they emigrated.

Safe travels🥰
Thank you kindly! 😁🚗

Are petrol pumps called Bowsers in SA?
I know a bowser as being a trailer with a tank mounted on it with a pump mechanism, similar to a conventional petrol pump, for diesel or petrol. I hope this answers your question. 🚗😁
no pick & pay, no checkers and no shoprite. how do these people survive and what type of work does they do
There are many small towns that don't have big grocery stores, so they cope just fine without those. If they can't find what they need locally, they visit bigger centres like Springbok every so often to stock up. 🚗🛒 Some folks are employed by businesses in town and sheep and goat farming is also a big source of employment for the locals, as is the nearby mines and solar farm.
Beautiful place but I don't see people maybe is a ghost town
It is indeed a very clean and neat town with a natural beauty all its own! 😎🚗
The Klaas Pofadder story is the true one. The other story is just typical public opinion, which usually is wrong.
