  • Modeling in Houdini is easier and more pleasing than it might appear first. I will show you the power of procedural workflows, allowing for on-the-fly tweaks at any point of your creating. It is so rad it is almost like 90s.

Using procedural selections, gotchas and proven workflows using the bevel and extrude, we will add boolean to the equation and start creating hard surface models of our own. As per usual, everything is tightly packed with time savers, gotchas, all with some new nodes like clip, mirror, and find shortest path.

If you don't want to be jumping around SOPs and LOPs all the time you can do some stuff.
    1. Add geometry, light, camera, etc on SOPs, then go to ROPs and create a karma node. In that karma node you can select "render viewport", which will open a separate window with Solaris, this ways you can do everything in SOPs but see the result live.
    2. In SOPs, create a LOPs node, so everyone you get into it, it will switch to LOPs, so is just about going in and out of it.
    3. Do everything in LOPs. You can put SOP create nodes and dive in to create your assets, so is sort of like the previous method but inverted.
I don't have much experience in Houdini, I am using the 1st method rn but I think the 3rd one might be the way to go from now on with Solaris.

great video! I have a question, on 15:55, the polybevel2 is still on(blue), and you select box1, and the handle shows up, but on my pc, it only show the bevel stuff like 15:17, only if I turn the box1 to blue, then the handle will shows up, is there any setting for that? thank you🙂

to view handles select a node you need and press enter while hovering mouse in the viewport, i hope i understood your Q correctly

@@oossoonngg thank you for reply! but it still doesn't work.. only if I turn on the render flag (blue) of the "box1" then the Handle will show up, anyway, I just start to learn Houdini, maybe there's some wrong settings😂

@@oossoonngg just restart houdini and everything worked again, apparently restart can solve 90% problems🤣🤣

Sometimes restarting viewport is enough BTW. If you have labs, there is a menu item that does that. Or do it manually. Or restart houdini hehe

can you please help me with something , i need to model a interior room in perfect accuracy of feet measurement , but i don't know where to change the measurement feet ( i am just starting with houdini )🥲

Model as is, then scale everything with transform node by 0.3048, I mean I'd do that and not mess with measures.
