The 24-km cross-sea Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link opened to traffic on June 30. The link reduces the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to approximately 30 minutes.
It is a key project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It consists of one underwater tunnel, two bridges and two artificial islands, and was one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects in the world to build.

The best wishes from Poland to Great China.
Wow! Another engineering masterpiece by the Chinese. The Chinese spend trillions on such pioneering projects that benefit everyone, creating jobs, connecting people and places in the greater bay area, minimising transport times. With this new link, it's possible to cut down on the 2-hour travel time between shenzen to jongsan to 30 minutes. Every human would be proud of this engineering marvel. I thought the hk to macao sea bridge was incredible, but this project is just as spectacular. Another must see for me when i visit shenzen.
I know some critics would say this project will never be "profitable", but that's entirely missing the point. When we do things that benefit our people, making a profit isn't the only consideration.
This is an amazing project, but you are overstating the benefits and the originality of this project. It is certainly built to modern standards and looks great, but the longest undersea tunnel in the world remains the link between the UK and France, which is twice as long as this bridge/tunnel system, was built more than 30 years ago, and in less time. China also has similar structures - the ones between Hong Kong and Macau and the Dalian ones are equally, if not more impressive.
Your claims about travel times are also vastly exaggerated. A couple of days ago, I put in a Didi trip from the centre of Zhongshan to the centre of Shenzhen and the estimated time taken was 1 hour and 40 minutes. I did it at 8:30 in the evening, in peak hour it will be much longer. 30 minutes is the time you'll spend on the bridge not the time between the two cities.
The other thing that I discovered is that the tolls are really high and that it would cost over 250 yuan for the journey. To put that in perspective, it's the same money to travel to Dongguan, which is much further away.
When work started on the bridge 7 years ago, house prices in Zhongshan jumped on the initial news but have since fallen back to their original level as people worked out that it wasn't practical to commute to Shenzhen because of both time and cost. The exception is newly built houses that are very close to the bridge, but these are a long way from the centre of Zhongshan.
Gorgeous!
Good
Magnificent 🎉
Big congratulation to Chinese people especially at the Greater bay areas. I believe some day a smiliar bridge will connect mainland China to Taiwan island 😀
Sure it will when later Taiwan return back Mainland China.
It's weird when people call it The Greater Bay Area since it is not a bay at all. It is a delta. I guess they use the term to create an image of the original Greater Bay Area, in San Francisco and I suppose that is what they aspire to.
Amazing, China!
La ingeniería civil china me tiene tan impresionado cómo su programa espacial.
traffic jam as a result of too many drivers driving very slow for sightseeing on the bridge😂
China has surpassed EU and US regarding the building of the bridges. By the way I am not an expert. I also feed my algorithm with special data. ;)
