A box of fmj’s 45acp shouldn’t be 15 dollars more a box than 9mm that’s the real issue
Very true
People who only shoot 9mm are scared to hurt their wrist with a 45.acp
As the owner of both, the recoil is not bad on either. Big bore revolvers (.44 magnum and up) with some of the hot stuff from Buffalo Bore or some spicy handloads is what really will put the hair on your peaches.
@@Grooove_e That's a goal of mine once I find the courage to do it.
@@Joejo781 It's not too bad, start out with lighter loads and work your way up in bullet weight and velocity rating as you get used to it. On Kentucky Ballistics 2nd channel he recently did a video on proper technique for shooting big bore revolvers. Best advice he gives is to just load one round at a time when you're starting out. It's a lot different than shooting modern semi-autos, and no longer "practical", but it is a hell of a lot of fun!
Nah, I just like to keep things simple. 9mm and 10mm are the only pistol rounds you need. You could upgrade that .45 to a 10mm, or are you afraid to hurt your wrist?
@@mawakini9585ol traitor Joe says all you
" Need" is a double barrel shotgun.....
The standard load is subsonic and works great suppressed. Plus, it carries way more kinetic energy than 9mm. Shot placement is more important than caliber. If you really want to talk about terminal ballistics, all handgun calibers suck for killing.

if you can't handle .45, then you can't even handle 9mm
All these people too afraid to admit that 10mm is superior 😢
I fired a full auto Thompson before, and let me tell you, I was smiling from start to finish 😂
45acp was literally made.. after 9mm.
But ammo is ammo. and isn't a bullet a bullet? It will still kill.... orrrr im wrong?
In the words of the late, great Chuck Taylor: Ball ammo is a perfectly acceptable defensive load for .45 ACP. It feeds flawlessly, and the .45 auto doesn’t rely on bullet design for terminal performance. The “.45 legend” wasn’t written with high performance JHP, it was written with 230 grain ball.
At defence range the type of ammo doesn't matter fmj hole will stop the same as hollow point defense ammo
They said the same thing creeping up on 50 years when the 10mm was created. Thing is just like classic cars, you're not a true gun nut it you don't have a minimum of 2 1911 pistols chambered in 45ACP. Yes it's heavy, yes it's slow. That's not the point.
45 acp dieing off because their is to many p###### that can't handle the same recoil.
Yeah, with defensive loadings, 9mm can make solid use of its velocity, even better than .45 can.
You can even get solid 9mm defensive subsonics if you’re running a suppressor.
But what about the next ammo shortage when you have to fall back on a couple boxes of steel cased, or resort to the bulk target ammo you’ve stocked up? Only one round can moderately well fill all those niches and it’s not 9mm.
Bro said fmj's are for target shooting..

Considering the Allies used both 9mm and .45 in addition to other handgun rounds in both world wars, your comment doesn’t make any sense. Wars aren’t won solely with SMGs and pistols.
No, logistics and fresh soldiers won WW1 and the Garand and nukes won WW2.
Not only did 1911s never get used, but when they DID have to use it, they developed the M1 carbine because .45 was too ineffective. .45 didn't win 2 world wars, .45 was an active hindrance to victory.
It will never die. It is immortal.

10mm died out came back. So 45acp goin nowhere
I’m embarrassed to say it, but despite carrying a long gun from the time I could walk, I didn’t know there was no difference between 9mm and 9mm Luger until I bought one and asked the Scheels employee for help. Long guns and wheel guns are my thing, not some newfangled auto loader.
I don’t think it’s dying out at all for the same reason people still shoot 45 colt. It’s a solid round. Plus it’s Subsonic by default. You can get some nice loads for it through underwood. It’s just sub optimal compared to more modern calibers when it comes to defense considering capacity, size of the gun etc.
What are more modern calibers?
Trying to get a 1911 this hit me lol

2 🌎 wars!
The boomers are dying off. The military is phasing it out. .45acp is less common that it used to be. It's not going anywhere for a while yet. It is not and never was the end all and be all of calibers. Like all things there are advantages and disadvantages to it. Recoil in a full size 1911 isn't anything to brag about. I wouldn't buy an M&P Shield in .45acp though. Mucho butthurt people I rate his trolling 9/10.
At least it wasn’t trans 40!!!
My theory is that ever since the FBI ballistics study, people gradually stopped buying .45 ACP pistols (and .40 S&W). Since there's not as much demand for them anymore, manufacturers naturally stopped competing in that market and so we don't see the same innovations on .45s that 9mm gets. FN is pretty much the only company putting in any effort there with the FNX and FN 545.
Nobody has stopped buying .45 though, there's literally no data to back that up. .45 is still in common use in law enforcement, certain aspects of the military, and substantially in civilian EDC. Gun companies are still coming out with new guns in .45 ACP all the time. Now you do have a point about .40 S&W, it had been on the decline.
@@dustincarner6675 I’d certainly like to know what kind of new .45 pistols you’re talking about. Unlike the past couple decades we’re not really seeing different caliber versions of the same guns anymore. There’s no PDP, APX A1 or METE in .45 ACP. If there really were a decent demand for it, we’d be seeing it. But there’s also no optics-ready P227 Legion, because that gun died off in 2019. There’s no fancy competition CZ 97 because that died off last year. There’s also no microcompact .45s either. Maybe I’m wrong and these kinds of innovations are just around the corner for .45 ACP, but I’m doubtful.
Your theory is paradoxical. It's the innovations that were tested in the FBI ballistics study, The FBI determined that superior technology made 9mm as effective as previous .40 and .45 with less recoil. .40 and .45 also have this superior technology and are therefore even more effective than they were before. 9mm just now crosses that minimum threshold and is cheaper and offers less recoil and is easier for all shooters.
@@VinEllis I'm referring more so to the features of pistols chambered in .45 ACP, not the ammo itself.
@@Horglereven disregarding the 1911, Smith and Wesson makes their current line of pistols in .45, as well as Springfield.
They can’t handle that recoil

That's why it's called Gods caliber. You're welcome
It's "dieing" but yet manufacturers are releasing multiple different versions of .45 caliber pistols every year. I don't think I'd trust this guy to run the paperwork for a gun purchase.
Dying off because new men are only half the man grandpa was.
Amazing suppressor capability is what will keep it around. I personally think it's a good carry option to avoid overpenatration.
What’s the reasoning here? Does 45 bounce off somebody that’s breaking into your house and 9mm doesn’t? Bloody hell people come on.

I have 2500 rounds of 45 hand loads and 350 rounds of assorted duty ammo(gift). And I don't own a 45.
The reloads were done in an automated machine that wasn't setup right, so a significant percentage have the bullet shaved and cause a malfunction. Ive been looking for something like a pawnshop highpoint carbine to burn them and less seriously considering a used pistol to run all the golddot and Ranger T. At ammo prices these days, its looking more and more worth it.
