The first language manipulation tactic I remember was during the 90's Gulf War where Iran became E-ron and Iraq became E-rock. The people that pronounced it the new way believed they were the 'informed' ones.
You know what, I remember that sort of. I was in basic when it all kicked off, we were pretty isolated from media during that. When I went home the following spring and it was all over by then. As I talked to people I remember them saying E-Rack and being like WTF. It didn't make much sense but then it all went back to I-ran, but tell me they didn't make the same play post 911.

I’m not saying one time when my jeep wouldn’t start the first thing me and a buddy did was drop the fuel tank and put in a new fuel pump because you might as well by the time you drop the fuel tank. That didn’t fix it so we tried hooking it up different and then went onto other things. Found the problem several things later as a faulty sensor in the crankshaft. Realized we had hooked the fuel pump up wrong but we had already raised the fuel tank and said to hell with it. Now my fuel gage reads empty when the tank is full and full when the tank is empty. Kinda got used to it.
Modern “science” (scientific method) is simply what Aristotle referred to as inductive reasoning. As you said, Jack, reasoning without full knowledge. Whereas deductive reasoning starts with full knowledge of things and conclusions are drawn therefrom. “Settled science” is something dumdums say.
