I use a 2 step product called 4Plastic by Kent Automotive. I can make the texture and also tint to match weathered pieces.

I used Rustoleum texture coat in restoring a roof rack on a Mercury Mountaineer. Cross bars are aluminum and rails are a hard plastic. It is made to be a top coat. Results were good and it has held up for 4 years at the beach. Don't know about compatibility with all materials so you'd have to check that out. Also used SEM texture with similar results to yours - just can't tell when you'll get a glob.

Jim - The Rustoleum paint you used, was it the product in the spray can I see on their site? SKU 223717.... I am looking for a product to re texture some plastic pieces on my Motorcycle, mainly hand guards and saddle bags. Did you use and plastic primer before applying the texture?

Hardener in the basecoat can improve durability, and in some cases don't require a clearcoat (such as underhood). So adding a hardener to the base here would prevent it from being washed off with a mild solvent however would still not give it any UV protection so it's not a good procedure here.

i never restored plastic before i want to fix some old bike seats.. i already sanded out the scuffs and scratches... what can i use to fill in the gaps?? also what paint is the best? this video helped me alot for getting the textured parts...

its about half the price of the SEM. I stopped using SEM once I started buying another bottle to fix the old bottles boogers.

@jimmo4life if you have to sand dirt, or a scratch out of regular paint. Can you just blow in the area blend or fan it out? Or must you paint the entire panel?
