Is it enough to put the sponge on the net cup? I'm sure there are still spaces that could expose the nutrient solution to to the grow light and cause algae to grow

Yes, try to keep the light out of the nutrient solution. There is indeed algae growing on the sponge. The LED plant growth light cannot penetrate the sponge layer. In actual planting, there is no algae growing in the nutrient solution because the light is too low to cause photosynthesis.

Yes, of course you need to add nutrient solution. The nutrient solution circulation system is basically closed. The actual evaporation rate is very small and it will basically be absorbed by the crops.

I have a storebought system, so I believe the lighting is sufficient. I keep the lights on for more than 12 hours a day. Aren’t they growinf too slowly?? Do you think I should fertilize more?

If the lettuce grows every day, it should be normal. Test the EC value. It is usually 1.2-1.8mS/cm. Hydroponic lettuce will grow slowly in the first few weeks, but will grow faster and faster in the next two weeks.@@spongie7403
