My present issue with Cal-Fire : Inspector gave me his business card and the card of ONE local brush clearing company. "I've got a guy who can do this for you."
"I'm good. Own my own Landscaping business." Two weeks later the same inspector issues a formal notice of inspection...A DEFINITE CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

I work in the logging industry and your completely right about the “managed” timber from the government. They’d rather watch it burn then actually use or maintain it, then when they finally decide to do anything it’s a complete nightmare to deal with them because of the ridiculous rules they have. Just ask any logger in the Pacific Northwest about the Forest Service and they’ll give you a earful.

They ARE the cause of the Hermit Peak fire here in Northern NM, the largest fire ever here in New Mexico, which was just contained after 6 months. 50+ years of mismanagement and 50+ years of disallowing locals to thin land grant forest. Fck the Forest Service, so much loss here that could have been prevented.

What’s happening and I’m seeing it in other industries now, cities and states are bleeding money and losing revenue, so they are looking for anything or changing codes to make things now out of code so revenue comes in. Greg Whitstock the Pond Guy posted a while back that the city his large business is in changed the height of ladders in regards to elevators. What was acceptable last year is now out of code. So the inspector arrived and after a fine of about $450 if I recall they found out about the new code. The easy thing for a city is to see how many building they have that have elevators and they can project the income they will make by changing code. A state like California that is losing so many people and changing laws in regards to vehicles and pollution, I’m sure it’s only going to get worse for the small guy dealing with the government trying to recoup losses.

They set the code offices up like law enforcement to bring in revenue like a traffic cop does on vehicle violations. It’s all about the money nothing more.

    • @HappilyHomicidalHooligan
      @HappilyHomicidalHooligan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Except what was existing prior to the Code Change is Grandfathered by Law (Federal I think) so the City can't just change the Code to generate Revenue through Fines, not Legally anyway. If the Elevator Ladders existed at Height before the Code made Height Illegal, those Ladders ARE STILL LEGAL...NEW Ladders installed at Height after the Code changed are not Legal and can be Fined, but not the ones that existed before the Code changed...
Grandfathering is why you still see really old buildings with Insulation/Plumbing/HVAC/Electrical etc. that's completely inadequate according to Code and yet the Inspectors don't do anything about them...they can't...

great video as usual, those inspectors can be a real pain in the backside, yours and V Belts work has always been exemplary and to the letter of what your hired to do, that shot at th end from the owner, wow what a view they will enjoy once the house is done, my wife and I built a house in 2000 and i was aloud through my lawyer and the builder to have a access key and to monitor the work from the short time window we had to sell, move and take position of our new home and found 1 day when i arrived to meet 1 of the tradesman their about so changes and found an inspector going through materials on my site and had a measuring tape out and then tried getting into the house, we looked at each puzzled and went to ask him what he was doing their, oh surprise inspection a neighbour complained about the site, i said nor possible can i see some I.D. then he got mad , oh i don't have to so i called my lawyer and he told me to call the cops so i did without this guy knowing , when they got there a few minutes later he was really mad, they asked why he was trespassing with out documentation and made up some B.S. reason the officer told him pack up took his I.D. and plate # and would be investigated just to be sure, i was glad for the officer, he said some of these guys just show up check out sites and steal material of all kinds, and this house was out on the city limits, we were lucky i believe showing up when we did, thx for the video 👍

I hate some inspectors. I'm not in logging or anything like that but I used to be agriculture pesticide applicator and worked in 3 different counties. My counties inspectors were great the neighboring counties were all garbage. They would literally look for any little thing to write you up on and if they couldn't find anything they would try to create something. My home county would come out see im in 100% compliance thank me for doing such a diligent job making sure I was in compliance and leave. The other county made me feel like some sort of criminal that was out on parole with a parole agent looking for a reason to send me back.

I have 40 acres recreation property. The state let the bark beetle kill all the pine. So I had to deal with all the standing dead. Took me 5 years to get permits. I didn’t want ground raked and slash piles. So logger and I agreed that limbs would lay where they fell. The county didn’t like that so they said the logger was taking advantage of me. I told them to take a hike. Then they wanted permission to inspect. I said ask the logger, if and when he says, you can. Logger thanked me, had to remove a tree that fell across a dry creek before inspection. After inspection, county asked if they could bring other land owners and loggers into my property to show them how logging should be done. The land looked like no logging had been done other than a few skidder trails. The logger and I are still friends 10 years latter.

Just to put this out there, before all the Tribes native to California were put on Reservations, the Tribes did back burning, cleared fire breaks an trails and used the dead fallen timber for cooking and heating fires for 1000s of years. That is the ONLY reason there are trees in California in excess of 2500 years old, a rare few pushing 5k or 6k years.

I operate from Indiana, Georgia, and Florida. We do not require any type permits to clear vegetation. Just license and insurance. I hate to see a burned area like that, lost timber value, lost public opportunity to enjoy the area, and worst of all is the loss of wildlife and the habitat. I serve as chairman of our local soil and water conservation district and I am a forest landowner. The one thing I do every year is do controlled burns on some of my tracts to keep the underbrush height down which makes it harder for a wildfire to climb into the canopy. This also improves the quality of the habitat for all manner of wildlife. I find that most private landowners are better stewards of the land than the government.

A Thick Forest is NEVER a Healthy Forest within 50 feet or so of an Above Ground Power Lines...
If you've got Forest Fires that are being caused by trees coming in physical contact of Power Lines, the Utility Company that owns those Lines is NOT doing it's Proper Preventative Maintenance and should probably be Investigated for Criminal Negligence and/or Sued for any and all damage caused by said Forest Fire since as I understand it, ALL Companies that own High-Tension Power Lines (the ones you see running through the wilderness bringing power from distant Power Plants to your County/City) are REQUIRED to keep plant life away from those lines so that short circuits and/or Forest Fires don't happen because a tree touched a live line...

once watched a guy who claimed to have been falling trees "all his life" in his 50's... i tried to warn him what he was attempting would never work... physics was not on his side... not at all... i offered to get the tractor running and ensure it didnt fall on the house... guy told me to stfu and let him do his job... he fell a massive tree, directly threw the center of his daughter and son in laws home.. in the end....they stripped it down to the ground floors and had to rebuild the house due to the damage done.... the daughter who had told us all her father knew his shit... well...she moved most of the stuff out of the house into the living space they had converted the close in barn to, (the upper loft area was all turned into a living space), anyway... yeah it was a fucking mess.. the 12yo daughter just looked at grandad, told him he should have listened to me, i may not look it, but, im quite skilled at mechanical and tech stuff, and even she saw it looked really bad... thing is... i cold have used some cables they had, to rig a rope between a couple other very large trees, and the tractor, that would have ensured it didnt hit the house but went to the side (also would have been pulling on it with a pully winch setup)... the professional who came out to evaluate the sitution was glad they had pictures form that day taken by the daughter... he was just shocked the guy thought he could fall that tree and not have it hit the house..you couldnt have topped it without hitting the house with the top 20-30% of the tree FFFS... it was great... the guy realized who did the job and kept talking about the mistakes, how its simple for people who have helped fall a few trees to think they can manage things that... even a very experienced faller wouldnt try... they were lucky the insurance covered it... but... took over a year for the home to be back to move in state... the old guy who the barn was setup for as a living space got to live in an old RV till the house was rebuilt...
also.. seen so many people not pay attention and walk into danger zones when people are falling trees.... wish we could have had one boss had arrested for that shit.. nearly got himself killed a few times doing that shit...

I've delt with suprise inspectors in a work safety area before.
Had them coming up asking for this or that without wearing the appropriate safety gear. Let them blow all that Hot air...then tell them to put it on or leave. Half the time they turn with their tail between their legs and get the gear, others want to argue. But after threatening them about OSHA regs...they usually comply. Of course there is always one that thinks they are above the rules. A phone call shuts them down pretty quick.

Take a little oil, spin a gear in it and you can haul tons of log up a hill.

Here in Washington State after Mt St Helens blew its top, they wouldn't allow loggers to come in and get the millions and millions of board feet of timber cleared from Spirit Lake. It's still just floating on about 1.5 square mile raft, rotting.

Paper documentation in today’s society is dumb. Digital easier to manage and carry. Remember when your math teacher said you need to know this because you won’t carry a calculator around. Time and technology changes procedures. Get with it inspectors
