This is really interesting. Heritage associated with wells and springs is very important. Hope you both enjoyed this visit, thank you for such a great video.
Wonderful! I love Buxton & was brought up near there, it was our nearest town.. Been down south for 20 years.. nice to see the moors again.. we will be visiting Buxton on our way to York later this year...
I was born and bred in Buxton, Richard and Julia. I used to always have a swig at that well whenever passing, right from being a child. It was always warm, and it has no impurities, just minerals in the water from the rocks it passes through, along way down. If you call at Buxton again sometime (preferably when the weather is nicer), it's worth looking in the thermal baths. Going back to Victorian times and even before that, and since, the water has been used in the treatment for many bodily ailments - people used to bathe in it for the likes of rheumatism, fractures and all that kind of thing. Anyhow, it's good to see you in the old place, and that accomodation on the Leek road I take it - looked grand. Take care.
I absolutely adore Derbyshire. I've just come back today, having spent 4 nights in Ashbourne in my little touring van. I visited Bakewell. Youlgrave. Matlock. Eyam (the plague village) & Magpie Mine. Bakewell, you would both love & I think you'd find Eyam very interesting. If you go you must visit the Museum. It tells the story of how the plague came to the village. The village itself is lovely & the views as you walk to the Riley Graves are stunning. I've been visiting this beautiful county for years. There's so much to see. I hope you'll return as I know I will. Great video. The shepherd's hut is fabulous. Take care. ❤
Such an awesome adventure, just hop into the car and travel together, stop wherever you fancy, enjoy nature, having lovely meals in wee local restaurants and so on ❤ Me and my husband use to do it every now and then 😊
All this is fabulous stuff. i was always a great fan of your collective work in the past. And. It needs to be said also. The videos that Mr Vobes did in a dim and distant past, were edited and presented in a broadcast quality that was second to none.
Hi Richard and Julia, hope you are well. Wow seldom do we see people hugging trees. I was so pleased to see Julia doing it. You go girl!!! 😊 More people should give it a go, as it is fun and theraputive. Loved your video, Thankyou. God bless.
Thank you Richard and Julia for a wonderful tour of Buxton! Those cream teas looked so yum - my favourite! What a wonderful place you stayed in too - that would be right up my street as well - really cozy. 😊
Well, I'll go to Buxton ! as they say oop North. Buxton and the Peak District are so lovely in sunny weather - I've hiked up Lantern Pike many a time. But in the rain the granite buildings are so depressing - just look at the weathered quoins and window ledges. The waters are wonderful, and the well-blessings a lovely custom. Mind you wasn't the rights to the "Buxton" water bought some time ago by Madame Perrier. Thank you for the tour Julia and Richard, and well done Julia for resisting purple frock in charity shop
Hi Richard and Julia from southeast Louisiana, USA! If y'all come to the US at some point, I welcome you to visit and stay on our property just outside New Orleans. I am next to the Honey Island Swamp and im sure you'd have a great time. You might even catch a glimpse of the Honey Island Swamp Monster! Happy travels!❤😊❤
This had me smiling all the way through, sometimes laughing out loud. People being themselves - in interesting places. When comes The English Couple: the Musical . . . ? Can I write the music . . . ?
What a beautiful place. Never been to Buxton before. Loved your ABB. Beautiful setting. Despite weather what a super time you had. Thank you for taking us with you.
Richard, I watch you on a large screen tv 😊 so I was able to pause the picture and walk across the room, and it felt like I was walking into your open mouth 😂 😅 😂 you're an entertaining couple. Greetings from Australia 😊
It's a shame you only saw part of the town - you missed the whole of Upper Buxton around the market place... full of interesing shops, including two very good second-hand book shops.
@@Jerrywesterby62 Yes - that's one of them. There's also a new one opened up on the market place between the chemist and the butchers - surprisingly well-stocked and worth a visit!
I was wondering about hiring a motorhome/campervan for a holiday this year... my main concern was whether or not there were rules about where you can park it? I gather that for electricity, gas, and changing the water, you'd want to go to a good campsite for this. However, there are some isolated areas I'd love to park at the roadside and see the stars. What are your experiences of this and have you had any problems just parking on a lay-by or side of the road? I ask this because I'm not entirely concerned about what PC Plod would say, but moreover how enforceable any rules around this are. My partner seems to think it is impossible to park a motorhome/campervan wherever you like, but to me that kind of defeats the point!
The stealthier and inobtrusive one can be the better really. Our van fits under most car park height restrictions and sits not too wide in lay-bys so we have great scope for walks, tea breaks, and lunch stops. With a bigger van one would be much more restricted as to where to park. 💚💙💜
@@the-english-couple I think you said 'Yeah I know' on one video in a northern accent and it was spot on lol! You guys should take a trip to Barnsley one day the accent is the strongest yorkshire accent by far. I'm from Rotherham and that is pretty strong too. :)
In another TH-cam video the chap had an issue when trying to get water from St Ann’s well. There was the town village idiot who kept hogging the water. He kept filling up the same bottle and every time someone challenged him he kept arguing the toss and making up stupid excuses and calling everyone filthy sinners. He had an answer to everything… and we just wouldn’t let anyone else use the well .
Hi lovely Julia and Richard what a lovely place if only the weather had been kinder to you great place to stay thanks for the video look forward to the next one 😀 ❤xx
The Tea House reminded me of a Tea House in Santa Monica, California (very British:)) I liked the other cabin more (has a VW Bulli and the VW fridge :)) This location has a nice open field of view. I hope you're having a wonderful time pipe smoking :) (People in the US used to freak out when I smoked my pipe inside:)))))
Good to see you both in Derbyshire. I collect my drinking water every two weeks from another Derbyshire Spring. I highly recommend people stop drinking the tap water if they wish to improve their healthy and energy levels.
Hello Richard an Julia we use to pass through Buxton quite often an one night my father and I parked near the centre an ventured in to that enormous dome structure that had been used as stabling at one point, it had the most unusual Resonance not so much an echo but a hummm! I love Canada geese it's a good sighn as they are knowledgeable about water, they favoured a lake near our old farm house, an avoided several others they'd be tens of dozens some years, an bob the neighbouring farmer told me it's because he doesn't use much chemicals on the land as it's a trout fishing lake an obviously the fields run off in to the water courses hence he was careful, so it's to me a good sign if canadas call in, the waters good, when our well fell in an the pump on the marsh blew up we'd fetch water in buckets from the stream, I'd aim to catch tadpoles an then get a glass with em in carefully not drinking them this was to impress visitors oh how wild an primitive we where, allways loved the frogs and toads looked after them. We'd then test it we used coffee filters an boiled it no one died, my dad had good knowledge which I'm trying to gain at the present. If your in that part of the world again Ashbourne is worth a stop it's retained many of its charactor shop fronts an has good fish and chips shops an the green man or saracens head is suitably old. Like the shepherds hut going to build a old school living van myself as there a bit more mobile. Cheers good fun this.
Brave of you to come up north where we are used to rain and fog and not bring waterproofs! Was it bravery or.......hmmm? I loved this one.. Sithee both on yer, bring yer waterproofs next time, y' gert big piecans When 't weather bloke tells us it'll be wet 'n cold, we puts big coats on. Down south, them lot stops indoors like. Farout. Your highway roads are just as shit as nz highways. I reckon Colgate is is our governments contractor for our tax paid roads...Goes hard when it's dry. But washes away soon as it rains.😂
Julia I share your deep appreciation of the trees 💜💙

No daffodils out there?
Looks A lovely place impressive.
Thee's been t' Buxton and Burnley now, only Royston Vasey left aka Hadfield twinned with Bacup in my mind. Hello lovely Julia nice hat.

The water is very deep down and a vulcanick reaction pushes it up that's why it's warm
Thank you .løve it 😍😍😍
That part of Derbyshire sits on limestone not sandstone, hence the many quarrys.

Travelling in a van is terrific! Thanks for including us on your adventures.

Fantastic video as always & uplifting for the soul thankyou! ...I`m still waiting to see Julia`s little smoking pipe (Thinking of getting one myself).
Nice van 2.2 lire diesel, should get you around. That is a very nice airbnb.
The water from St Ann's well fell as rain 5000 years ago. Buxton water is the best on the planet, and I fill my bottles whenever I'm there.
Didn't you know Richard, the deeper you go underground, the warmer it gets. Hence the warm spring water.
Buxton's beautiful. Visited many times but in clearer weather ❤🥰 hoping to move back up in 2 years
if you are anywere near the roaches it could be dangerous as the huge lumps of sand stone role across the road and down the valley
