Marseillan ... hmmm. Glad things worked out ok for you folks. Lovely town Alrewas. Thank you for all the work you do to produce this vlog, it's very greatly appreciated! 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed it too. I was so excited to find that clip! I scoured TH-cam for a while trying to find that exact sentence and I love Richard Briers’ perfect voice. I just need him to do the rest of my voice overs now, as it’s my least favourite part of the editing process! 😂😊
@martingilligan It says April 2023 at the beginning of the video. If you watch our channel regularly you will see why we are behind in putting out our videos.
Hello - thank you for the lovely video. Sure liked that town you stopped at. Looked like a great place. Plus they put out doggie water and treats. Great they had vollies to help at the locks. Well mother nature dropped 8 inches of snow on us. Was only to get 1 to 4 inches but guess the storm zigged and zagged a bit and decided to dump more on us. Well it is spring in the Midwest - could be 70 one day and snowing the next. Pet the puppies for me and take care. Spin
Hi Spinner! Sophie called to show us the snow! Couldn’t believe it. I bet you can’t wait for the warmer weather to come. Alrewas is such a lovely village. It was one of the first places we stopped when we left the marina after we launched and that was our third time back there! So many beautiful houses and cottages, and a lovely butchers and coffee shop and of course the chippy! 😊
Great vlog again! Lovely walk around and great to see the ‘old’ MS once again too, Seeing the dogs being real boaties now is wonderful, they must like all the different sceneries and smells, keeps them entertained for sure!❤❤
Thanks so much Eric! The boys have been reminiscing about the ‘old’ MS watching these videos! Poppy especially is really living her dream. She’s always loved watching narrowboat vlogs, when we were still in Texas and researching this new life aboard. And now some of her best friends are Dexter on MS and Jess and Archie from Floating Our Boat! Her dreams to become a boat dog have come true! 😊
Another fantastic video - mmmm fish & chips and a great selection of pies!! I really enjoy the “personal side of your life” as well as the cruising - gives a real insight into “One More day Aboard” - have fun and keep em coming!
Beautiful video, I particularly enjoyed the walk through the town. 😊 Did I see that correctly? Homeowners provide water and treats for dogs. 🐶 Greetings from Germany. 🇩🇪
Vielen dank! I knew my 3 years of German at school would come in handy one day! And yes, there are dog water bowls and jars of treats everywhere in England! On people’s doorsteps and in pubs and cafes! We were so pleasantly surprised when we moved back here from the USA. Everywhere is so dog friendly! 😊
It was quite the wake up call Craig. Thankfully the majority of the boating community we have met have been the most wonderful people. Thanks for watching 😊
Isn’t it sad that we have to think like that. Thankfully the majority of people we have met in the baiting community have been nothing short of wonderful and would do anything for you, and not take your things! 😊
Love the video. Memories of fabulous weather…hopefully it will return this year! Arewas looks beautiful - no wonder it’s one of your favourite villages. That cake looked scrummy! Shame you had an issue with another boater - luckily the lesson was learned without losing anything valuable. Hope you’re doing well this spring xx😊
Thanks so much! We are SO looking forward to some warmer and drier weather. It has seemed so much wetter this winter, and rain equals mud, and lots of it! We can’t wait for some beautiful spring cruising. We learned a big lesson that day and it saddened us to know that another boater would try that. Thankfully the majority of the boating community we have met have been nothing short of wonderful 😊
Do we assume that Marseillan was the boat in question ? Any fellow boater would always announce themselves before stepping onto someone else’s boat. Glad this was a close call but it’s reminder that not everyone is 100% trustworthy. We used to watch Wind in the Willows and loved hearing the likes of Sallis, Jason and Horden with their wonderful deliveries. Fond memories. 🇬🇧 🫶🏻 🇦🇺
Yes that was the boat Alex, and a very good reminder to not leave anything out or trust anyone. It’s quite sad really. There’s no way he had mixed up the boats! It was a wonderful trip down memory lane finding different versions of The Wind In The Willows on line, and to scour through them and find that quote read by Richard Briers! Just perfect 😊
thats terrible that someone would try to steal your drone, and worse that it was another boater. can you report them to the canal trust or anyone like that. shame one of the dogs didn't give him the teeth treatment. Lovely vlog and love to see you travlling woth Paul and Anthony whos vlogmI follow too
It really saddened us to know that another boater would do this. Thankfully the majority of the boating community have been such wonderful people and this was an isolated incident, but has made us so much more vigilant! We reported the boat number and name to the CRT at the time but are guessing that nothing happened as no crime was actually committed. I was off the boat with the dogs at the time but I’m sure Poppy would have seen off the potential thief! We had such a lovely time cruising with Paul and Anthony and it’s been great reliving the memories editing these videos 😊
Lovely to see our "local" canal on here. We walk around Fradley Junction at least 2 or 3 times a week, so if you're ever back here and see us with our greyhounds (one black, one black and white) - give us a wave!
I’m sure we’ve seen you walking your dogs when we’ve been there Gill! You or someone else with 2 greyhounds. I’m sure it won’t be too long before we are passing through again. Did you see Narrow Escapes on Channel 4 when we were sat on the towpath having cake with Paul & Anthony? That was at the top of Fradley locks, when a passing dog took a fancy to the banana bread on my plate. It was a very funny moment and the poor owner was horrified, especially as the film crew were filming 😂 Thanks for watching 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard Yes, I remember that because we commented on how Bella can be the same - she's a terrible "foodie" thief if she gets the chance. The towpath around there has been improved since that was filmed, much better to walk on now instead of mud. Now if they could only do the stretch by where we live (Handsacre) that would be perfect. We're hoping to go to the event at Brinklow this coming weekend so may see Paul and Anthony there ☺

Thanks Sharon! It was a big lesson learned in not trusting anyone which is quite sad really 😞. Thankfully the majority of boaters we have met have been absolutely wonderful and would do anything for you, and not take your stuff! Glad you are enjoying the videos. We binge watched our favourite channels so much when we were researching this new life aboard 😊
That’s a good way of describing him! We have doubt whatsoever that was his plan! Thankfully most of the people we have met in the boating community have been so lovely and this is not the norm 😊
We were lucky that Pete was right there in the kitchen. It shakes you up when something like that happens doesn’t it. I always remember your video in Leicester. All a bit unnerving, but thankfully, as you know, the majority of the boating community are the most lovely people that you will ever meet, that will do anything for you, and not try and steal your stuff! 😊
Good job Pete saw the guy and confronted him. Imagine if he was further in the boat or just presumed it was you getting on the boat. The drone footage is absolutely amazing Pete. Love the shots right down the canal and above the locks. Alrewas is a beautiful village. Can’t believe it’s nearly a year ago since I joined you all that day. So much seems to have happened since then. Have a great weekend. See you very soon. xx
So lucky Pete was there in the kitchen. We think the guy had been looking for a while, and didn’t realise he had gone back on the boat and thought he was still stood chatting by the water point. I don’t think I will ever have the confidence to fly the drone, but love putting Pete’s footage together with the music. That year has flown by so quickly since you came to see us all in Alrewas! We will be cruising through there one day, altogether 😊
We were so lucky that Pete was just down in the kitchen. We think he didn’t realise that Pete had got back on the boat! Taught us a big lesson in not living stuff on view though. Couldn’t believe he had the gall to do that in broad daylight with so many people around! Do you have a launch date yet??? 😊
@@onedaymoreaboard hi it is called Lerryn after our favourite place in Cornwall where we have so many happy memories ❤️xxx we were shocked that swan are putting the boat in as one of their show boats ahhhhhh but Anthony’s advice has really helped relax my mind 🤣
Cripes! Did the would be thief's boat actually look anything like yours? The nerve of that guy. Surprised Poppy and Hamish didn't give him what for. Still, at least he was foiled! That was fun seeing the Wind in the Willows quote on the side of that building and then hearing Richard Briers voice. Love that guy. Terrific actor, very funny. Great in the Good Life. I still don't quite get how you pronounce that town's name: Alrewas?? 😊
We couldn’t believe his nerve either! I was off the boat with the dogs so they weren’t there as a deterrent. She’s cute but Poppy would definitely be barking if a stranger tried to get on while she was guarding us! His boat looked absolutely nothing like ours! Different colour, different stern set up. I zoomed in quickly on his cream boat in the video. I was so excited to find the quote read by Richard Briers. I was scouring through all the online versions of The Wind In The Willows that I could find! He has the perfect voice doesn’t he. I would love to have him do the voice overs for all of our videos. That’s my most disliked part of the editing process! I have it on good authority that the pronunciation is Al-Ruh-woz from Rich on Floating Our Boat who is a local 😂
We’ve never had any complaints and only fly it respecting the rules laid out for our size of drone, which is one of the smallest in the market. It’s really only a bit of a buzz that you can hear when it gets low enough. Thanks for watching 😊
It’s Time On Our Side by Ten Towers. I found it on Epidemic Sound which is the music library I subscribe to use music without any copyrights issues on the videos. Here it is on TH-cam th-cam.com/video/0MqqeXvnk78/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tY-fGnX1-m6jNoFd. Thanks for watching !
It really does, and thankfully we haven’t encountered too many bad things on our two years aboard. We are mindful of where we moor overnight, but I think I what was shocking at this time was the guy tried in broad daylight with so many people around! Taught us a big lesson of not leaving anything in sight though! Thanks for watching 😊
That was really scary! I wonder if that man who was about to steal your drone will be at the Crick Boat Show? 🤔 Maybe I’m just being silly, but why would another narrowboater take that chance?! Hopefully Pete would recognize him if you guys run into him again somewhere.
I’m sure we would recognise him again Nancy! And definitely his boat. It’s sad to think that another boater would do this to a fellow boater, but thankfully the majority that we have met have been the loveliest people ever, and would do anything for you. Thanks for watching 😊
We don’t tip the Canal & River Trust volunteer lockies, infact I don’t even think they allowed to accept tips. However we have been known to share a cake or two with them. In one of our videos you’ll see Rob the Lock spend the whole day with us though, helping us get through lots of locks. He just turns up and helps out boaters when he can, and is not one of the CRT volunteers. We tipped Rob very well that day. You can see that journey here th-cam.com/video/EoM-qJTl5h4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AXOi4N9-XHNZkUgj. Thanks for watching 😊
We do have a camera on top of the boat when we moor up, but take it down when we are cruising to avoid low bridges! Perhaps it’s a lesson learned in leaving it up all the time! 😳
With all of the narrowboats on the canals, I wonder why google has not created a google canals, similar to google streets. There has to be many people in the community willing to participate in the mapping.
There is an app called Open Canal Map that some use to navigate, but we prefer to use the physical map books. I think you can add layers to google maps that include canals. I’ve done quite a bit of research to get maps on our vlogs but it’s not easy to find! Thanks for watching 😊
Hi... I'm Daniel, greetings from Brazil. I am an admirer of the English canal boat lifestyle and one of the doubts and curiosities is the legal issues of having a boat and using it on the canals. Just as we pay taxes and fees for owning a car or motorcycle, we also pay tolls and fees for traveling on highways. Also with boats and canals is the the same principle? What are the taxes and fees that a boat must pay periodically to navigate the English canals and park along its banks? Thanks ❤
Hi Daniel! Thanks for joining us from Brazil 🇧🇷 We pay just over £1,000 a year for a canal and river license. That covers most mooring spaces, and also use of the facilities such as the water points, Elsan points where we empty our toilet cassettes and rubbish disposal. Let us know if you have any other questions! 😊
We said that too, but thankfully this is a rare occurrence and the large majority of the boating community that we have met so far have been such wonderful people. Thanks for watching 😊
Report his boat to the CRT almost guarantee its not his first time, at least they will be able to trace his movments incase its happened before or again
There had actually been a huge ruckus aboard his boat as they approached the water point. He was yelling so loudly to the woman who was onboard with him, and attracted a lot of attention. We will spot him immediately if we ever see him again 😡
Sadly the CRT don't even bother to collect licence fees off the loonys, to much hassle 😏 I knew a guy who was a canal chaplain of sorts, there was a community in London that lived off the dole and paid no CRT fees, a real collection of misfits, thieves, druggies, alcoholics and mental cases. You just hope they don't decide to cruise around
Unfortunately thefts have increased dramatically as more and more people are deciding to become ' Off Grid ' and take to Narrowboating,it’s becoming common for people to lose their Pins whilst moored and gone for a Walk. My Son is a Detective and the Police are being called to more problems associated with Narrowboating than they were, even down to domestic violence and violence between other Boaters and unfortunately it is going to get worse with the amount of Boats moving onto the Canal System. The CRT pretty soon are going to be announcing a huge change to many of the current Boats with the Banning of the burning of Fossil Fuels ( especially wood ( green ),you will only be allowed to use kiln dried wood etc and coalite and not Coal. The CRT will also be coming down hard on those Boats who are Contaminating the Waterways ,emptying bilges full of oil and water and engines that are going to be non compliant with the emissions requirements that are being introduced soon !. One of the main reasons 99% of the Boat builders are going full Electric with the Engine and heating system within the Boats 🤷♂️. I would definitely recommend getting a Full Time Mooring while there are still some spaces because it is going to be a requirement for Narrow Boats in the future for when they are registered with the CRT…..These Payments for your Certification are going to be increasing dramatically over the next few years and those who have boats over 60' are going to be paying the Most !. A great video ❤
To be honest you have to just get comfortable with the dings and scrapes of the paintwork, and just keep on top of repairing them as best you can you prevent rusting. You get far less protective of your boat than you do a car, as it’s just inevitable that there will be bumps, especially on the narrower sections and bridges. You see why I am far happier with a windlass in my hand at the locks, opening and closing the gates, rather than a tiller! I’m happy to let Pete navigate into the narrow locks and be responsible for the scrapes 😂. And yes, that potential thief sadly proves that they are everywhere. Thanks for watching 😊
I like to try to give people benefit of the doubt but it certainly sounds dodgy. Did his boat really look like yours enough to get on board by mistake? Leaving right away isn't a good sign that it was innocent either. Glad you didn't lose your drone. I know they are expensive to replace. 🥰 I love the village walk. It looks like a lovely place. ❤
We have no doubt that he was after the drone Dorothy. Our boat looked nothing like his, and it was a good job Pete was right there when he decided to try his luck. The drone was a gift to ourselves for birthdays and anniversary but I’ve never dared fly it! I love putting Pete’s footage together with the music for the videos though. Alrewas is such a lovely village. Gorgeous houses and cottages and all the shops and facilities you could need. That was our third time there and it won’t be the last for sure 😊
It’s been very hard to control the audio with the basic set up we’ve had, just with our iPhones up to now. We’ve just bought some good quality lapel microphones that we will be using in the 2024 vlogs that will be coming soon! Thanks for watching 😊
I didn’t like to say at the time for fear of retribution, but I zoomed in quickly on the cream boat in the video. I reported the boat name and number to the CRT at the time but am sure nothing would have come of it, as nothing was actually taken, thankfully for us 😳
Crazy isn’t it! Such an opportunist. Thankfully the majority of the baiting community we have met having been nothing short of wonderful. Thanks for watching 😊
Sorry but the excuse of the boat looks like ours wears a bit thin, yours looks brand new, as an ex cop and soldier this so and so would have been ripped a new one and no doubt he would have slipped and got wet. not what you want on such a nice day
You're right, there's no doubt in our mind at all what he was on our boat for, and I think Pete being down in the kitchen surprised him, hence the ridiculous excuse By all accounts he's still in the area but I hope this video has served as a warning. It's certainly made us far more aware of not leaving anything valuable on view even when we are right there! Thankfully the majority of the boating community have been wonderful people and this is the very small minority 😊

Wow does that drone upset everyone. Sounds quite loud. Especially filming.all the boats
We’ve never had any complaints and only fly it respecting the rules laid out for our size of drone, which is one of the smallest in the market. It’s really only a bit of a buzz that you can hear when it gets low enough. Thanks for watching 😊
Love the closing track - who is it please?
It’s Time On Our Side by Ten Towers. I found it on Epidemic Sound which is the music library I subscribe to use music without any copyrights issues on the videos. Here it is on TH-cam th-cam.com/video/0MqqeXvnk78/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tY-fGnX1-m6jNoFd. Thanks for watching !
Living in public spaces comes with stranger danger. Glad all was fine in the end.
Who on earth would spend an evening watching narrowboat vlogs. I cannot imagine… #gonvlogzlering.
Who on earth would do that 😂😂. That’s the perfect word for it. 👍
We who don’t have a boat, lol!
We binge watched when we didn’t have a boat, and now we still binge watch on our boat Lisa! 😂
At least you got a good shot of the boat and name ! Others will keep a lookout for Mr. Light Fingers and his yellow boat in the future, I’m sure…
For sure! A viewer said that his boat is still in that same area 😳
@@onedaymoreaboard He’s going to find himself blackballed.
Do you boaters ever tip the volunteer gate keepers?
You guys have to ask Julie and Martin where they got their CCTV camera from! Asap! 🤞
@@onedaymoreaboard 👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🥰🇧🇷
It boggles my mind that a fellow narrow-boater would do that to you..
We said that too, but thankfully this is a rare occurrence and the large majority of the boating community that we have met so far have been such wonderful people. Thanks for watching 😊
Report his boat to the CRT almost guarantee its not his first time, at least they will be able to trace his movments incase its happened before or again
We reported it at the time but guessing nothing came of it 😞
He certainly had a LOT of explaining to do. and everyone in the canal boat community will hear about him. Foolish man .
It's quite a sad state of affairs isn't it. We will just keep chugging along as long as we are able. Thanks for watching 😊
Xx
Thanks Edward 😊
id be so scared in that lock of dinging up the paintwork lovely looking boats aslo that thief on a boat scum gets everywhere i suppose sad but true
That is just so sad. Glad he wasn't successful. It certainly doesn't help that there was a fast getaway. That kinda of proves the point. 🙄
That was exactly our thoughts Dorothy. He didn’t hang around 😞
The volume is very low in places. Maybe a better microphone
It’s been very hard to control the audio with the basic set up we’ve had, just with our iPhones up to now. We’ve just bought some good quality lapel microphones that we will be using in the 2024 vlogs that will be coming soon! Thanks for watching 😊
You should say the name of the boat that the guys got on unless it was a hire boat so other people are aware
I didn’t like to say at the time for fear of retribution, but I zoomed in quickly on the cream boat in the video. I reported the boat name and number to the CRT at the time but am sure nothing would have come of it, as nothing was actually taken, thankfully for us 😳
😮 in broad daylight too and in such close proximity to you! Brazen attempted thieving 😤
