    I went I went into college as a pre-vet major and I did not like the classes so I switched to a wildlife biology major which I enjoyed a lot better but as I was taking courses I still realized that I wanted to be a vet at heart but just work with wildlife and this video just gave me the confidence to go ahead and finish my requirements for vet school while i am still an undergrad even if it pushes my graduation date back and hopefully apply to vet school. So thank you for this video!!

      Of course! Conservation and wildlife are so popular and there's beginning to be even more opportunities for you to get into. People will tell you its not worth the money or its competitive, but you should do what you love! It'll work out in the end :)

    People applying to vet school out of state should also understand how much it may cost to move. SO definitely have some money put aside for this.

    Congrats Britt I knew you would pass. Great video. It would be great if you can do a video on the curriculum for Year 4 clinical training and also give your feedback as an SGU student on what it is like at the affiliated schools. Are there things that SGU can do to improve on to make it a little easier for students. I think this would help prospective and current SGUSVM students who are in the lower terms to have an idea of what to expect. Maybe you can also do another one with you driving around or exploring the state you are in just to see what the scenery is like there. Those would be amazing. I enjoy the videos dearie keep them coming. Say hi to Maggie.

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is! Some schools want a full bachelor's and others just want you to satisfy it, but usually by the time you complete all those classes, you're close to having a degree. So most people just get a full bachelor's degree

    So can you take pre-reqs pretty much anywhere? For ex. If I wanted to go to a community college to complete them then transfer out to a vet school that’s how it would go? Or is there some pre-reqs i dont have to complete (Im not seeing inorganic chem as a course at some CC’s near me and it seems to be a requirement for some vet schools)

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to do all pre-reqs but they can definitely be done anywhere/online. Some classes will have labs that must be done in person. But if a vet school says its a pre-req, there's no way around it. Your application will be skipped if its not included

    I am most likely going into a pre-biology major at UCSB and I wanted to know if a zoology degree counts? I know you mentioned it as an elective but I don’t think it’s an elective at UCSB. After finishing pre-biology courses like chem and physics, UCSB lets you pick which direction you want to go in. I want to go into zoology, but before doing so I want to make sure it will still get me into a vet school.

      Im just wondering could I finish school in 6 yrs vs 8 with my AS degree vs getting my bachelors & adding on another 2 yrs 😊 the 2 yrs wouldn’t bother me but the sooner the better

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get a 4 year vet tech degree, you'll likely satisfy most (if not all) of vet school, for DVM. However, if you get an associate's degree which most vet tech degrees are, you'll have to either go back and finish your bachelors or take remaining pre-requisites for vet school which if you're working as a vet tech, a lot of people just take a couple of classes at a time they can handle

  • @cchristmas01
    @cchristmas01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Are there any scholarships to look out for that are specific vet students?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately there's not many vet related scholarships out there. There's SOME don't get me wrong. But almost none will pay your full tuition. it'll usually be $500-10,000 a single time (and that's a high end...most I see are $5,000 or less). Most people rely on loans...unless their family can contribute

  • @kallistaaldridge2534
    @kallistaaldridge2534 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it a good idea to go 2 years in vet tech school and then switch to a vet major?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends. Some people do that route in case they decide hey school isn't for me, but I still have credentials and can make more than a non-licensed tech. However, if you do that, you still have to finish that 2 year associate's level degree and then finish out a bachelor's degree/get all your pre-reqs for vet school. I know people who have been techs, take some time to slowly complete the pre-reqs and work/gain experience/make money, and then once they have all the classes set, they apply to vet school and do that way. However, if you're 100% sure you want to be a vet, just do a normal 4 year degree and apply to vet school that way. If you don't get in your first application cycle, you can still work as a vet assistant/un-licensed vet tech and apply the next year..

    Hello! I start the dvm program in August! I wanted to know if it is fine to have a chromebook as a laptop? Are there any specific programs that we have to download? Or is everything pretty much powerpoint slides and pdfs?

      Degree doesn't matter but unfortunately you'd still have to go and complete those requisites for vet school. You wouldn't have to get a full degree, but you'd have to complete all the science courses
