I'm starting a Veterinary Nursing course at my University this year and would love it if you could do a video on how you study, make notes, revise, schedule work, study and social life and how you managed to read all those textbooks so fast and the best ways of retaining all the information they provide. I'd really appreciate it as I have no clue how to plan my study time or how I'm going to tackle, read and remember everything in all the textbooks I get given. Thanks :)
Vet tech student here. I have quite a few of those books! One I found really helpful was Mosby's Veterinary PDQ. It fits in your pocket so it's awesome to have on you for your clinical rotation. I've started buying VTNE books. I enjoy Mosby's Comprehensive Review as well. It puts the information in a list format. I find it easier to read because there isn't a lot of fluff like there are in some textbooks.
This is my absolute favorite channel!I'm hoping to start Vet tech school next fall. This video was super super super helpful!! Thank you so much! Love you!
I just have to tell you that I am SO HAPPY that I found your videos. I am starting school to become a vet tech in November. You have gotten me even more excited to start school than I ever thought possible! You are so absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to do what you are doing now! I've even been driving my poor husband crazy from talking about starting school lol. Could you possibly do a video about how you felt starting school and what it was like going in to it? I also need any study tips I can get if possible! Thank you so much!!!
I loved this! I also was in the field for 7 years as a veterinary assistant and then went to Cedar Valley College to earn my degree. I graduated in 2014 and passed my board. It was an excellent program! Gotta love submitting those videos towards the end The surgical video was the hardest for me. Yes! Those books for dentistry are wonderful! I've been working in veterinary dentistry for 14 years now and love it. Thanks for making this blog!!
Thank you so much for making all of these videos! I am currently taking a 6 month long online course to get a Vet Assistant certificate so I can see how much schooling I want to get to further my veterinary education. I love being able to see videos of people in the veterinary industry doing their jobs! :)
Thank you for showing us all your books. This really helped me as I'm starting my vet nursing course and traineeship in a couple of months. This book will help me for now too as I work in a boarding kennels part time. I've brought the Animal restraint for veterinary professionals addition one 😊 keep up the good work!
You're so inspirational I literally cried just watching all your happiness and how amazing you are at what you do! I went to school as well Ive already graduated and hoping to take my vtne in April! You're literally my favorite TH-camr ❤️❤️❤️ everything you go through I can totally relate to I wish you worked with me! I've always wanted to start a you tube channel and never really knew what I'd want to do but why not something I love! Which is what you're doing here. Keep doing what you're doing! You're awesome you touch my heart every day 💕 and good luck with school!! 🙏🏽😘
I'm taking online vet tech classes also! I'm getting close to the time where they require videos. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the struggle of school and trying to apply everything :)
hey! ive been watching your videos for awhile now, and you inspired me to go back to school to become a vet tech next semester. i graduated from cosmetology school and something just didnt feel right and i couldnt picture myself doing it forever, but animals have always been my passion so im glad i finally found the right career. and its funny because my cosmetology educators always said “if cosmos dont stick with this, they always end up being nurses” vice versa. which is true 😅😂
You literally work at my dream clinic! I've worked at a family run veterinary hospital for a while now and it was built 50 plus years ago and nothing is modern or computerized and when I watch your videos I die when I see all of your dental machinery and prescription label markers in the background and how nice your facility is lol
Hi Victoria- are you able to make a video at some point talking about how you handle aggressive dogs and cats in the clinic and how often you run into these types of situations? Its something that I am personally super nervous about! Thanks so much and this video was super helpful as always :)
You run into these daily. Cats are assholes in the clinic. They are often so freaked out by being there, all the crazy smells, especially scared, upset barking, growling dogs they may or may not be able to see, etc. You learn to get creative when handling them. As a last resort, if the surgery, for example, needs to be done you can rabies pole them. It allows you to secure them in a corner, or wherever, while keep the head away from the back end, long enough for you to inject a sedative. On rare occassion there are just some animals that cannot be handled. If you cant even sedate by darting them, then they are sent hime. Sometimes for the really bad ones, owners can presedate them at home. One way I liked handling upset dogs was keeping the dog in the backseat of the car, have owner distract the head while i would inject vaccines at the other door. Sometimes two owners would work, one outside car at head, the other inside leaning their body against dog, pressing dog into back of seat. These only work with specific dogs. You learn to get fast. For dogs that just posture, show a little teeth with a minor growl or snap, I would get leash on them and then wrap it around their nose, sorta like lasso-ing, then pull it tight. Then you have control in one hand while you draw blood, vaccinate, sedate, etc with the other. Cats sometimes calm down if you can get a towel over them, especially their head/eyes, some dogs too. Towels are great because you can burrito wrap them in it and they cannot move. You can tuck them under your arm like a football and carry them around. You will learn techniques in school for how to catch and restrain animals, aggressive or not. I'm sure there are videos on it. The goal is to get in and out with the least amount of stress on the animal as you can. Hope that helps.
I’m really hoping that you can help me out! I am moving back to Houston Texas with my boyfriend in August and have recently decided to switch my studies from nursing to veterinary they’re saying. I don’t have any clinical experience, however I do have my final interview with a veterinarian and owner of a local clinic here in Virginia. I can’t decide whether an on-site campus experience or online it would be best suited for me. The best school in Houston that I have done a lot of research on is called Vet Tech Institute of Houston. It has very good reviews from former students! It’s an 18 month program which would be awesome, but wouldn’t allow me to come home to visit my family for those 18 months, so that’s the only downside really. My other option would be to work as a vet assistant until fall of 2019, and then enroll in an online program at that time so that I’ll have some experience to go off of and hopefully learn more on the job training. Do you think gaining one years experience as a vet assistant/unlicensed tech would be enough for me to consider an online program? Or would you recommend it for those with more than a year of experience? Thankfully, I have plenty of time to decide on this, but I have such a one track mind in this kind of thing and really just want to set a plan for before we move to Houston! I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your videos and you’re honestly so impressive to me! I noticed that the page on Facebook of the vet that you work at includes videos that you recorded for them. That’s amazing and I would absolutely love to provide that for a vet someday. I love social media marketing.
Im a new subs here. You are so amazing... i miss my vet school and college days.. keep it uo. I learn something new from you. Keep educating sharing your new found knowldege and information to us. Thank you so much..
Ahhahahaa, how funny! I just got a " home veterinary handbook" just for fun! I'm started college next week and I figured when I'm bored I can read this book(: I have about 2 years until I can start learning about the gooood stuff and on the road to getting my RVT license! :)
I'm near the end of my schooling at Baker College for veterinary technology. I have 1 one more semester left after this semester. This includes my externship at at veterinary clinic. Tomorrow is a big lab day for me at my vet tech lab. I'm fairly nervous, but just trying to go over everything I can think of.
Hey~ you're doing a great job :) I'm actually still in 8th grade and I wanted to get a headstart and focus on being a vet All of these books seem really advanced so if you have any books for someone who wants to start getting deeper into the subject then I'd love to know them Thank you
I got this book for my bday called- so you want to be a vet? It's quite simple and I'm also in grade 8. It explains different jobs, salaries and all that information you need to know to be a vet. It's very useful and I really recommend it
Your videos are always full of knowledge and good information I really appreciate it. I just recently received feedback from penn foster about credits I'm transferring and I'm set to enroll and start and I'm so excited. Scared as well cause I know it's gonna be a lot of work. This video definitely helps a lot, if you could do a video on study tips? That would be awesome :)
😂i stumbled upon your video and decided to watch it while looking into vet tech stuff and when you said the name of the college i squealed, that's the college I've been looking into going in person in Lancaster, Tx. Yeah you gave me a mini heart attack because I absolutely hate reading but it is also good to prepare myself for all the information I'll need to know. I want to know it all, just a little scared my brain won't absorb it fast enough 😅
I'm not sure if I want to go into the veterinary field, wildlife field, or the environmental field. Either way I'm an animal and plant lover - and although I'm able to do things like physical care taking it's emotionally taxing on me. I prefer solitary jobs where I can use my mind to calculate data and solve problems. That's where I shine at.
Thank you so so so much for sharing this video!!! Could you do a study tips video sometime in the future? I go to a kitty shelter most weekends and I get a few scratches and bites, do you have any tips for healing them quick? Love from 🇨🇱!!
Hi Victoria, I've always loved animals and it's been a dream of mine since I was small to work with them. At present I'm enrolled doing a business course in college which is really not for me and I'm seriously considering changing to do veterinary nursing but am really scared to try incase I won't know what to do or if I'm not good enough.. I'm just wondering how did u know u wanted to become a veterinary nurse? Have u always had a love for animals or was it just a dream of yours? And did u have experience with vet nursing before studying it or did you learn everything that you do now from scratch and was it difficult for you to learn? :) Thank you, absolutely love your videos btw. X
Why wouldn’t you recommend anything other than hills? They’ve has sooo many recalls and they’re food may be balanced but it’s processed and it not good for pets for their whole life’s.
Hi I’m torn between Health Information Management and going to Veterinary Technology? Help witch one should I get in to? I love being around animals and careing for them.
Hi! Im totally in shocked as in, anyway Im from Philippines and I am a also Vet Student first year to be exact, your videos gave me a lot of motivation and inspiration I actually have no idea back then what is Vet Med though i know some background of it, i just take this course coz I love pets, i really love animals and omo i just realized what have I done it is beyond my imagination yah i know it is hard, more difficult for me bacause I am not expose in that kind of work I mean i go to pet clinic but i didint know that it work that way, i envy you coz you already have a background of it you have enough knowledge about it but me? nah nothing. So thank you so much for making a vlog like this, it helps me a lot. LOVE LOTS PO (showing respect to older people in PH) "po"
Meron po bang school sa pilipinas na nag ooffer ng veterinarian technician? Yung pang 2 year course po. Kasi po balak kong mag vet tech, hindi ko masyadong gustong mag veterinarian. Kasi sayang naman 6 years ko sa vet med kung mag vevet tech lang naman pala ako. Thanks po in advance :)
I am looking for the books to become a Vet Tech or Vet Assistant... I have been studying for 6yrs and I need help getting the books, and into school.... I REALLY WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL!!
I am planing on attending a vet tech college in Glenwood Springs Co, and I was wondering if you had to take a special class to learn how to suture, or was that apart of the degree?
Would you say taking the nutrition course would be good to have as ‘decoration’ along w. observation hours & my associates degree for my application to vet tech school?
How serious are piercings and tattoos when it comes to being a vet tec or veterinarian? I have gauges and a tragus piercing and I want to get a tattoo on my arm
Hi im a high school student and im intrested in doing this. I was woundering what i can use to study for a high school student and what types of books i should be looking for for someone as young as me.
Smol_ Jewels I just graduated from high school and I did a lot of agriculture in my school. Started with Ag biology, Ag Chemistry, And Veterinary science, and we also had animal science! (But I didn’t get the chance to take). I recommend you to get into ag classes! I was fortunate to have a farm at my school and we handled animals (mostly) on a daily basic. So get into ag classes if you don’t have in your school than related classes! And talk to counselors about it I’m sure they would help you choose the best classes and pick great schools. Hope it helped!
Are you showing books for Phd level Veterinary course. I thought we don’t have studies so much detail about the course you mention during my Bachelor and Master degree in Veterinary Medicine course.
Hi, I have a question! I'm a student studying prenursing but I wouldn't say it's my passion. I'm taking it because nursing is the only field I'm most familiar with through my parents. However, recently I've become interested in a career as a veterinarian instead. Not simply because I love animals (who doesn't?) but because I'm fascinated by them (their behavior, body structures/functions, etc.). *However* I'm not much of a pet owner. I grew up too poor to afford anything like dogs, cats, etc. I have bought the occasional goldfish or RES turtle before but nothing serious like a dog. Since I don't have much experience raising/caring for animals, would it be unrealistic for me to try to become a vet? Of course, it's definitely better to have experience dealing with animals but I will be doing volunteer work of course.
Naomi hi I live in the uk but I’m sure it’s universal! Getting into vetmed or vet nursing is more about practice experience gained and work ethic! In the uk to get into vet school you have to complete several weeks of work experience including in practice, equine and farm animal. For vet nursing at least 2 weeks in a vet practice. I would recommend getting tones of work experience in a range of settings including boarding kennels /cattery vets riding centres/schools. :) owning pets is definitely not a guarantee that you’ll get into the field or on a course so don’t feel disadvantaged! Good luck :)
Hi I'm from the Philippines 🇵🇭 my 1st choice is VetMed but i didn't accepted because of lack of requirements but i choose BS Agriculture 1st yr my plan is to choose the animal science major but now this next sem in planning to shift to Vetmed but I'm hesitant because Vetmed here in our country is 6yrs and I'm already 20 yrs old? What should i do? thank you it's been 2yrs since i subscribe your youtube channel
Nancy Amairani a lot of clinics will allow you to work for them without a degree. You learn on the job. It's isn't something where, by law, they have to have a degree. :)
How are you working in a clinic as a veterinary nurse as well as going to school to become one? I am confused how you are able to practice it without previous education
Meggy Peggy she is technically working as a vet assistant right now, but many clinics will teach you on the job. A license is not required in some states to work as a veterinary nurse, it just gets you a higher salary.
I am not really educated in all the details of vet school, but I'm very interested in it, so I just have a few questions. What's the difference in a Veterinarian, a Veterinary Nurse, and a Veterinarian technician? How much schooling for each, and which has to euthanize the animals?
A veterinarian is a vet, they do surgeries, consultations and have a lot more legal rights to treating your pets than a vet nurse/tech, as nurses/techs cannot treat your animal without the vet having seen it first. They can dispense drugs, they keep the finances, they deal with the owners and they go on home visits. A vet nurse is the same as a vet tech, just a different name. Nurses do a lot of behind the scenes. They dose drugs, they moniter the animal whilst they are under anesthesia, they feed, water and clean the paitents, they take blood samples, they run lab tests for urine and blood, they clean, they take the dogs outside, they look after when an animal is boarding, they are in charge of the stock, (drugs, cleaning supplies, food, bandages, fluids etc) They are pretty much the working gears of a veterinary practice. Both have to euthanise animals, often a nurse is needed to assist the vet, either by holding the leg in which the catheter is in or actually putting the animal down themselves. I can't help with the cost, as it completely depends on where you live and where you go towards study. Hope I helped a bit! (Just to be clear I'm not a registered vet/vet nurse, but I am a VCA student and have worked in a practice for the past year)
I LOVED this video. I really want to become a certified veterinary assistant (not a nurse or tech yet). Penn Foster has an online program but it is based in Pennsylvania (go figure) but I don't live there. Would it still be certifiable where I live? Another question I have is is there a minimum age requirement? I'm pretty young, but really passionate about animals and veterinary medicine. And last, any suggestions on other things I can do related to this field? My local vet clinic and a lot of other ones will not let me volunteer/shadow them for liability reasons. Thanks!
You can take the vet assistant program no matter where you live. And I believe you would have to be 18. Or at least graduated high school to get in the program.
I am trying to be a vet tech, or nurse, and I would like to know all the books I need to study? if you could please contact me back, I would appreciate it very much. And if you would like to be friends with me on FB, please send me a friend request.
John Nozzi I don't know if this is the same for every state. But from my understanding Vet assistants and vet nurses are a little different. Vet assistants don't have a degree and can not do as much. Plus the pay is less. Vet nurses do have a degree and are allowed to do more as well as get paid more. I could be wrong. That's just what I understood.
You have to have a degree to be a licensed veterinary nurse or certified veterinary technician. If you don't have a degree you are a veterinary assistant. The majority of the procedures I am able to do is because I am working towards my degree. In some states you legally you can't without a degree. Also, the pay is better.
When I check the meaning of nursing is a health professional who goes to university for 4 to 5 years, to work with humans. Someone who studied microbiology, human anatomy, human physiology, psychology, infectology, mental health, pharmacology, epidemiology, nutrition, psychopathology, and every single pathology per age, etc, plus hundreds of hours in clinical practice in hospital, in every single area of medicine, surgery, pediatrics, mental health, ICU, anestesiology, etc. This vet nurses and dental nurses are just weird to me, never heard anything like that outside of USA, and I think is disrespectful to the profession, just trying to appropriate the term like that, it's terrible, why not vet tech? Like in most countries. Not saying your profession is not important, because obviously It is, I just dislike the wrong usage of the word because you are not a nurse.
I'm starting a Veterinary Nursing course at my University this year and would love it if you could do a video on how you study, make notes, revise, schedule work, study and social life and how you managed to read all those textbooks so fast and the best ways of retaining all the information they provide. I've actually never read one! I googled it and it looks like a great book!
What classes do you have to take to be a veterinary nurse? Plus I love your videos!
I love/appreciate your videos so much!
Hi Victoria,
I've always loved animals and it's been a dream of mine since I was small to work with them. :)
Thank you, absolutely love your videos btw. X
Is it possible for me to try to become a Vet Nurse while already in college ?
thepink mermaid i guess it depends what you are studying and what experience you have
Why wouldn’t you recommend anything other than hills? They’ve has sooo many recalls and they’re food may be balanced but it’s processed and it not good for pets for their whole life’s.
OT: what are you wearing on your lips here?? SO dang pretty.
How much is your sallary
nutrition reference manual is free to download :) thanks

Meron po bang school sa pilipinas na nag ooffer ng veterinarian technician? Yung pang 2 year course po. Kasi po balak kong mag vet tech, hindi ko masyadong gustong mag veterinarian. Kasi sayang naman 6 years ko sa vet med kung mag vevet tech lang naman pala ako. Thanks po in advance :)
@@ilshadowllilgalll7871 hi! sorry for replying u so soo soo late 😅, I really don't know eh. What year kana po ba? I mean Senior high or what?
I am looking for the books to become a Vet Tech or Vet Assistant... I have been studying for 6yrs and I need help getting the books, and into school.... I REALLY WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL!!
This video was very helpful.
Hey I wanted to ask , what’s the pay rate ?
How serious are piercings and tattoos when it comes to being a vet tec or veterinarian? I have gauges and a tragus piercing and I want to get a tattoo on my arm
Can you make a list of classes you have taken or are taking please!
Have you tried mini vet guide?
Do you want to become a Vet? Or just nursing
I am just studying to become a nurse.
You shouldn't say "just", clearly it is a lot! Congrats!! ;)
Good luck :)
ilognie Wow, this is incredibly helpful and encouraging! Thank you so much for taking the time to type that all out. I really appreciate it :)
I want to be a Vet surgeon, What should I study to become a surgeon?
What is the difference from a Veterinarian and a Veterinarian nurse?

Do you have to go to college for veterinary science before you can do veterinary medicine? Or can you go straight into veterinary meds?
What a levels should you take if you want to be a veterinary nurse
What are some good books that cover a lot of different topics? I just started out in a clinic and working my way up to become an assistant
McCurnin's Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians. This book has a lot of helpful information in it!
Plumbs is like the bible!! YES GIRL
Yaaasssss it is!!
How do you get a job at a clinic without being a nurse tech first?
Hi I am confused, how are you working at a clinic without your degree?
Nancy Amairani a lot of clinics will allow you to work for them without a degree. You learn on the job. It's isn't something where, by law, they have to have a degree. :)
do you have any bird vetenary book . Pls reply
What courses have you done / doing right now?
Whats the diffrence between vet tech and vet asistente
No way I'm going to cedar valley college and that's where I'm graduating from!!!!
What would the starting salary be for VN?
They dose drugs, they moniter the animal whilst they are under anesthesia, they feed, water and clean the paitents, they take blood samples, they run lab tests for urine and blood, they clean, they take the dogs outside, they look after when an animal is boarding, they are in charge of the stock, (drugs, cleaning supplies, food, bandages, fluids etc)
They are pretty much the working gears of a veterinary practice.
Both have to euthanise animals, often a nurse is needed to assist the vet, either by holding the leg in which the catheter is in or actually putting the animal down themselves.
I can't help with the cost, as it completely depends on where you live and where you go towards study.
Hope I helped a bit! (Just to be clear I'm not a registered vet/vet nurse, but I am a VCA student and have worked in a practice for the past year)
pokemon9oct ok thank you! That helped a lot, nobody really talks about the details.
Do they have classes for veterinarian in college?
Hey, I'm about to become an auxiliary kennel nurse and I was just wondering whether you had any advice or tips :)
My biggest advice is always treat your patients as if they were your own! They are someones baby and deserve the best care!
Victoria Birch Thank you so much! Couldn't agree more! Good luck with your new school year 😀
How did you get the royal canine nutrition books?
My Royal Canin representative got them for me!
Can you recommend any online colleges??
How difficult are the chemistry courses? Sorry if this is a stupid question
Diana Diaconescu it depend upon the person but if you ask me the same question especially the chemistry (organic chemistry) was tough for me.
@@LisaMero Thank you for the reply! I don't know what to do because I've always struggled with chemistry. Maybe I should consider doing something else
Thanks!
pirouettingfish yes
I live in Canada and I'm taking the vet tech program through Penn foster
Moonbeam S Thanks!
You can take the vet assistant program no matter where you live.
And I believe you would have to be 18. Or at least graduated high school to get in the program.
Have you tried to volunteer at your local animal shelter??
Is nurse and tech the same?
Zakiyyah Flores yes!
Christina Blois thank you ♡
Lindsay Beth thank you 💙💙
Does a vet tech and nurse both perform surgery?
Lindsay Beth ...well said.
I’m in vet tech school right now, your videos are getting me so hyped for my future!
Awesome
Can i ask how much is your salary?
I am trying to be a vet tech, or nurse, and I would like to know all the books I need to study? if you could please contact me back, I would appreciate it very much. And if you would like to be friends with me on FB, please send me a friend request.
Raw food is best and you dont need all those text books.
Omg I hated my pharmacology class
how old are you?
noooooooo I am going to have to test anther part of HELL
I can tell you are American
Is Veterinary Nursing the same as a Veterinary Assistant?
No a tech has alot more responsibility
No
Ignorant question: if you’re already working as a veterinary nurse why get a degree to be a veterinary nurse?
