    lol you have no idea.... the entire rendered file was 33 gb. it took around 1800 min, which works out to around 30 hours... and get this... the internet hiccupped the first time so the upload failed at around the 24 hour mark... you could imagine my frustration XP

    But we skipped from East Palmyra to parked west of Savannah! Still a great trip. No one understands why I’m watching someone’s video of trees out a window..

    Great video! Thank you! I don't understand the reason for changing of locomotive at Albany

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anders Ekholm Diesel locomotives not allowed in New York Penn Station, so the diesel is changed at Albany for a dual mode locomotive that can run on 3rd rail power.

    9:14 Are these old timber ties being replaced by modern concrete ties ?

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not up at the location you see in the timestamp you referenced. That section of trackage is owned by freight railroads, and they're not going to invest in infrastructure improvement like that. Concrete ties are only really NECESSARY in high speed passenger rail applications. Timber ties are still a cost effective alternative in low speed applications such as freight.

      Being on the main rail link between Chicago to New York, maybe Amtrak needs to take it over.

      Surely this route has a lot more traffic than the Boston to Washington route.

      same money source as Boston to Washington link I guess. Something like this needs to be done to ease the air traffic problem over north eastern USA.
      Looks like some infrastructure work is being carried out wes tof Albany e.g. replacement of level crossing with bridges. Where does this money come from ?

    • @FredNurk
      @FredNurk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amtrak seem to be replacing wood with concrete nearer NY.

    This is a great train---Schedule works for almost everyone. It is a very long trip from NY to Toronto and could use even better upgraded business class seating. A dining car or a salad bar buffet car would be nice for passengers. I suppose a sleeper or two might even work out. Lounge car a possible option.

    Along that stretch between Amsterdam and Schenectady...sounds like rough trackage. Surprised they don't have slow orders going through there..he was pushing 90 Mph.

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diesel exhaust is not permitted in NY Penn Station, so the diesel locomotive is swapped out and a dual mode locomotive that can run on 3rd rail power takes its place.

    I’ve been President of Amtrak since November of 2008 -- just over five years. In that time, the
    company, with the support of our Federal and state partners, has achieved some impressive
    accomplishments, despite the Great Recession and our country’s very slow recovery from it.
    We’ve set ridership records in ten of the last eleven years, and we carry three times as many
    passengers between New York and Washington as all of the airlines put together. When’s the
    last time you heard someone say “I flew in on the shuttle?”

    I assume this is the other side of the tracks from the Rochester station. What a mess! And this is what visitors see arriving at our station? This is appalling. All the money wasted on BS projects in this city and nothing on the first thing train visitors see? To all the people traveling to or through the Rochester Station on Amtrak, I apologize. This area is appalling and I would blame you for staying on the train and going somewhere else.
