- Dave Pantano, owner of Premier Martial Arts in Huntingdon Valley, PA and 7th degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate and black belt in Krav Maga, reacts to various scenes from Cobra Kai, Season 4, including the hockey team fight, point fight between Daniel Laruso and Johnny Lawrence, and tournament fight between Robbie and Hawk. We discuss the fighting techniques being used, as well as broader lessons to be learned from each of the relationships between the characters.
Dave Pantano has been teaching self defense and leadership skills to his students for over 25 years. At our school, your child's training becomes more than just self-defense and excellent fitness; it becomes character development, self-discipline, focus and concentration, respect, and perseverance.
Our adult styles taught at Premier Martial Arts combine the highly effective self-defense arts of Krav Maga and Kickboxing - the same systems and methods as the Israeli Army uses for fitness, fighting, and self-defense - to ensure you'll be ready for any encounter.

7th Degree Karate Black Belt Reacts to MORE Cobra Kai (SEASON 4 FIGHT SCENES)!
“Take a deep breath, your mom is bringing your soup down in a few minutes”… that was fantastic! 😂😂
Lol thank you
You forgot the basement part 😂
I still have to go upstairs for it lucky guys
@@CounterstrikeDavePMA Why dont you just say you're a 301th degree black belt? But no, in all seriousness. Karate is probably the bottom tier defense technique. How does it feel investing all your time into something thats basically worthless in real world standards of fighting?
@@DR-uq1fr wanna fight him? See if you can win
7:15- you are so right. All of my training was used exactly once...to apprehend a shoplifter. That's it. The confidence and discipline has been so much more useful than knowing how to punch a guy in the face.
As an older retired from teaching Martial Artist I’ve enjoyed the hell out of watching Cobra Kai. I get where you are coming from. Thanks for the video.
Really enjoy watching your videos because you seem like a normal down-to-earth dude, with a good sense of humor. 🤘
Hello Al thank you so very much. Yes no ego just having fun
I appreicate your mention of the deeper conflict that Robbie dealt with, it's sad to know that people complain and say "its just a series its not that deep" when in fact its written pretty damn well!
I very much agree with you. It’s funny the movies back in the day we’re meant to have very good lessons about life and martial arts. This series has great messages about life and martial arts and then people complain that we are discussing the lessons from life and martial arts. Apparently many of them are not martial artist
@@CounterstrikeDavePMA I believe it may be due to the desire for everything to have instant gradifiction, if messages are not literally said right to viewers face like how a superhero says "no killing" or "language" these are the messages that the majority society can in take. Keep making these awesome videos with a perspective I wish I had, can't wait for next season!
@@Houndguardian It's far better than the drug abuse, suicide and sex that is found in almost all High School dramas that's becoming vastly overplayed and over replicated in society. I'll take the over the top fantasy action over Eurphoria BS. But that may just be me, that over the top action also allows for quite a lot of character development in Cobra Kai. If you pay attention to the characters and even the show writing, it is growing and correcting itself.
@@Houndguardian Look, I'm not a critic, I'm just a fan enjoying a great run.
@@CounterstrikeDavePMA CAN YOU JUST STOP TALKING WHILE THE MATCH IS GOING ON OR JUST PAUSE DUDE ITS SO IRRITATING
I absolutely love that you admire the show and its production and are not simply criticizing certain inaccuracies, even though of course there are some as it is a tv show after all. Great video sensei David!
Thank you so much for that awesome positive feedback. Yes people do get a little nutty and they critique things too much and I also critique people who comment on his face. But that’s with this channels for we get to interact and share thoughts
What people always forget, and this show did so well is, showcase that Miyagi taught Daniel defensive style of Karate when he began because he needed to defend himself against his bullies. Also, Miyagi knew Daniel is a hot head with a temper, so he left the aggressive lessons out. Just another example of how good a teacher he was.
Awesome video Sensei David! Your perspective was spot on and I really appreciate how you emphasize on taking the best moves regardless of style and making them work for the best outcome.
Thank you so much for that awesome feedback!!!
I think Robby taking off the top part of the Gi was sort of breaking with Kreese and Silver.
He wasn't fighting for either of them or Cobra Kai. He was fighting for himself.
And I think it was the same reaction with Eli.
In the end, it wasn't Kobrai Kai vs Miyagi anymore, but just 2 awesome competitors fighting each other.
Copy that
I think thats what one of the writers said. He take off that part of the gi as a snake sheds its skin.
Whilst that may be true, I also think it's because they grapple eachothers gis, and if done properly you can put the opponent at a real disadvantage
No that's Judo Zephaniah karate has some takedown techniques. But no throws. Except some gojo ryu.
You're amazing dear Sensei. You are a wiseman when you say, all martial arts are goods. They give, discipline, knowledge, self determination, self management, good shape and a lot of health. Thanks for your point of view of Cobra Kai. Awesome series. A hug from Chile ❤️🇨🇱.
Hey thank you so much for your great feedback. And it’s true every martial art has something to offer. People get so upset and kiss on everybody style. But the truth is most styles have roots from other styles. People should train in the they like and be happy
Great Video Sensei! You should do more of these.
Thank you!!!!!!
I love love LOVE Eli's fight with Robbie! One of my favorite fight scenes of this show.
I'm surprised you didn't notice that Eli won using the same move that Johnny used to overcome the Miyagi-Do pressure point technique.
What makes the show great is that it IS deep. Especially for people that HAVE spent a good chunk of their lives doing martial arts. It shows just how martial arts changes people and how its lessons are life lessons.
I've seen a lot of black belt reactions and I really enjoy yours because you aren't overly critical about little things and getting this just a show. Hope to see your take on Sam and Tory's final match.
Well done sensei. Your insights are spot on!
Thank you so much Sensei ken
Hey Sensei thank you so very much I appreciate your viewing
Awww this was sooo good. Love your little quips very entertaining. A little disappointed that you didnt cover the girl's fight between tory and sam since i thought that was intense as well.
Thank you so much Fit watching and for the feedback
Great content man keep it up. Cobra Kai never dies
Thank you!!
Can’t wait for season 5
'' your bus can't be a ferrari if your ferrari can't be your bus'' some deep shit going on here...
I love your humor it makes this video just that much better.
Thank you so much for the awesome feedback. We are just having a great time with some great episodes from cobra Kai. Thank you so much for watching we have a new one dropping next week
Cobra Kai is straight up GOOFY but we love it and enjoy that "oomf" of character development
lol yes
Yeah it is goofy but so were the movies. If it didn't keep that goofiness and was to real life it wouldn't be as good.
@@bradmiles1984 the movies werent as goofy
@@MLCLAN_SG in multiple movies the finish move was a nose honk. Daniel did it to chozen and Mr Miyagi did it twice to Kreese. Also you had Daniel pulling pranks on Johnny. There was plenty of cheese in the original movies.
@@bradmiles1984 yeah ig, sam is whAt makes the show so cheesy she suck’s imo
i love this, this style of content is very unique
i actually enjoyed the video!

New video on an awesome movie series coming in less than 2 weeks
Normally I go around giving these youtubers who are "black belts" reacting to martial arts in movies and tv dislikes because it isn't really fighting because as you point out bad guys aren't going to take their turns. but you get a subscription and like.
This 54 year old is ENJOYING Cobra Kai.

My son has ADHD and he had a lot of trouble focusing and he'd get picked on as school because of his ADHD. We enrolled him in a Tang Soo Do class after talking to the instructor who spent some time talking to our son after the class and he treated our son like he was a normal kid. He recognized that having ADHD would be a bit of a struggle, but he also assured us that he knew how he could help our son get the most out of the class. Our son loved taking the classes and as time went on he learned how to focus better how to control the impulse to become distracted. His grades got better and he became an A student in school and eventually got to Red Belt with stripe before we had to move to another state. He wants to eventually return to classes and get his Black Belt someday.
He's about to graduate college as a Specal Education Teacher because he wants to help other ADHD kids and those with learning disabilities learn how to become the best versions of themselves, just like the teachers in his life who took an interest in helping him become his best version.

Great vid man thank you for the link on a previous comment of mine. Love it

I enjoy these breakdown videos!! It’s awesome to hear a legit Martial Arts master giving the nitty gritty on reality vs fiction. Cobra Kai is a great show. But, it is just a show! I started training in Martial Arts as a nine year old kid who was a Chuck Norris fan. Over the years, in school and in the real world, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from experience what works for me and what doesn’t.
I’ve learned that grappling, though very effective one on one, is the LAST place I want to be in a fight. Dirty fighting, weapons, the numbers game and real world terrain such as pavement, gravel and weather conditions makes grappling a weak form of self defense. High kicks, spin kicks such are great in sports and the movies. But not great choices in self defense. Punches aren’t ideal due to the potential of hitting hard surfaces, be it a head or a hip! Either could break the hand or sprain the wrist. Not to mention, cutting the knuckles on teeth!
That said, open hand strikes are best. Disrupting balance to take an assailant down, then applying kicks or stomps are effective. Always being aware of surroundings and getting away ASAP is a sound strategy.
Ok David, I need to start watching your videos. I really enjoyed this........
Hey champ. Thank You

this video is hilarious to me because its 12 minutes of a guy just reiterating the main themes of the season with absolutely nothing to do with his own martial arts experience

Hello sensei I go to the the same place to learn karate and I want to thank you for changing my life forever
I want to hear your commentary on the Tory vs Sam final fight
You’re the second one to ask me that. We just finished feeling something about John Wick so maybe will revisit that next thank you so much for your feedback and thank you for watching
I havr always felt martial arts is fluid, changing, and evolving through the ages.
I started with Kyokushin karate, and still train some of it. But have added Aikido, BJJ, and Kali to my training. I primarily now do Kali because I feel it is overall encompasses weapons, stand up, and ground. With weapons use at all possible situations.
I agree that Johnny and Danial need to bury the hatchet and combine BOTH systems to create the greatest. Johnny’s street knowledge with Danial’s tradition would be a powerful art.
The late Ed Parker said it best. “Evolve his style to stay relevant in modern times”.
Not only is Daniel's daughter one of the judges in their fight, but the other judge is Johnny's surrogate son/star student, the only one to never desert him...and he scores a point against Johnny, too.
Yes and it shows how the students at this point are almost at higher level of understanding balanced in their own instructors. A lot of cool lessons here
Great video! Love your channel. Was wondering if you agree with what I’m about to say cause it’s a conversation/debate I’ve had with a lot of people. I believe that TKD and Karate are technically kickboxing, here’s why and let me know if you agree. Kickboxing is an umbrella term defined as any combat sport in which you can punch/kick your opponent, it is contested on the feet, and it is not submission based. Karate/TKD check all of those boxes. Therefore not only Karate and TKD are kickboxing (forms of kickboxing) but so are Muay Thai, Savate, American, Dutch, Sanda...etc. whether it is semi or full contact does not change the fact it’s kickboxing. Thanks🙏🏻
Osu!
May i ask you what style of karate do you practise?
I really enjoy your videos by the way :)
I love your energy and analysis. While yes it's a tv show derived from a series of movies, it wouldn't be successful if these were flat one dimensional characters. Growing up I like most others thought Johnny and his friends were bullies, when they weren't, they were well respected by their peers. Anyway this was fun to watch.
That's the interesting thing with this series. In the movies Daniel was the main character so everything was from his perspective but the series is much more thru Johnny where you get to see his side of the events and you get things filled in that the movies didn't show. It just shows how everyone always thinks of themselves as the hero and not the bad guy.
Do more reaction videos for cobra Kai please it’s very enjoyable
I was thinking hawk took his top off to level the playing the field cause if Robby doesn’t have a shirt to grab onto I wouldn’t want to have one either. That puts me at a disadvantage if dude can grab and throw me easier like that lol heeellll naaaahhhh

Hey thank you so much for watching. As far as whether that is a good style it all depends on the individual I train in it along with American Kenpo some people like it some people hate it lol it’s all up to the individual and what you want

Thanks for a good analysis, especially about the fight choreographies and about what is real or could be, and what is only a tv series. Can you analyze Sam and Tory’s fight? What (karate move) was Sam Larusso trying to do right before she got hit by Tory’s elbow?
We can definitely do something like that later we are working on something big this week with the John Wick movie

So much great content to choose from
Hi Sensei David, what do you think about all being black belts just for the tournament?
I found that particular detail a bit funny to be honest. They all talk about style and tradition but maaan, the black belt itself has a meaning.
I know this is a show…but still, they should have been a bit less careless about the belt grades.
That’s why it’s a movie and TV show. Everybody’s a white belt all at once In the dojo and then suddenly everybody’s a black out for the tournament. I don’t think it would be as exciting if they were a bunch of white belts and orange belts at the tournament so everybody Has to be a black belt LOL
That’s why it’s entertainment and that’s why it’s awesome
The cast has said the 2 actors that play Robbie and Hawk are the best REAL LIFE martial artists on the show,as far as the kids go, and you can tell....Tanners( robbie)mom was a 2nd dog black belt I believe....
And yes, that announcer always irks me....even someone hyping up an event would never be THAT dramatic....way overboard even for a show lol
Thank you for the Reality check with real fighting and in a tournament. I read comments all the time and too many kids think this is real. It's so much fun to watch but let's face it. How many times have you seen Dim Mock work in any situation? I read in the comments a number of times that Daniel will teach Sam the pressure points so she would win in the Tournament. Right, because it would make her win...🙄
Love that feedback
