    As someone who has owned the SKX for a long time and recently acquired a Citizen Promaster, I feel compelled to express my opinion on the matter. Throughout the years, the Promaster has remained vastly underrated despite its remarkable qualities, outshining the SKX in almost every aspect where they differ. In fact, if we discount the number of clicks on the bezel as a determining factor, the Promaster emerges as the clear winner. It baffles me why this exceptional timepiece has not received the recognition it truly deserves.

      I absolutely agree about the value and how good citizen is. But unfortunately the skx just looks better to most people. It has beautiful cushion case curves and now restrained and timeless Design. The pro master is a nice rugged design but the skx is iconic for a reason, it's beautiful. In particular I dislike the Bezel edge on the citizen. Should just be coin edge or are least consistent around the edge. Just my opinion though. Not trying to hate, you have a fantastic watch which is superior in all technical ways.

      Tunnel vision and group think my guy. Acquired a pro master years and years ago and thought it was a fantastic value and massively undervalued. I think it primarily comes down to the eco drive quartz movement. Most watch nerds love an auto movement..

    Regarding your comment about them having decent lume, I own a promaster (not this model though) and it has the most amazing lume I've seen on any watch, it's crazy. It shines so bright that even in full daylight, as soon as it's not directly in the sun, you can see the blue glow coming off of the lume. Super impressive, much better than any of my superluminova watches

    They killed the Tissot midsize diver too. That watch may have a greater WR rating but none of it matters when the case, bezel and bezel insert aren't built for purpose like on the full size 43mm Seastar. This Citizen is the midsize beater we were waiting for.

    Ive been thinking for a while that Seiko left an SKX sized hole in the entry level drivers market when they switched to the 5kx models. My only surprise is how long it took for a major brand to fill that hole for them. This is another good move for Citizen this year. I think they are going to gain some market share in the entry level over the next few years.

    For an entry level diver, Citizens are great. Eco-Drive gives you quartz accuracy without the concern of battery change. ISO certified divers for a really good price. And I'm ok with mineral crystal. Scratches disappear underwater, and mineral crystal is less prone to shattering than sapphire.
    And the great thing about an ISO Diver certification is that EVERY SINGLE unit is depth tested to 125% rated depth.
    Non Diver water resistance ratings do not mean every unit is tested.

    Hello,
    Citizens are very underated in opposite of Seiko but they have a incredible quality - price ratio !
    I own 5 Seiko's and 5 Citizen's and personally, I think Citizen is a step above Seiko...
    ...like the NY0040 and the SKX, the dial on the NY0040 looks more "luxurious" with the metal indexes and the "glossy" color.
    Often when people saying "Seiko's are incredibles", they think about Grand Seiko or some Presages, but not about classic Seiko or Seiko 5 !
    And yes, Grand Seiko are incredible and Presages dials are crazier than lots !!!
    Bye.

      One of the best watches that I have in my collection is a small Seiko 5 that I ironically bought on an impulse. It's just really nice in a lot of ways, really small and thin so it guess under your sleeve easily, good looking white dial, has day and date function, the hands could be better to be fair but I still like it a lot. I've also got the perfect strap for it that I didn't even specifically buy for it, it just kinda lined up that way. I only don't wear it as much as I maybe should because it winds only with the rotor, it has a bit of an older movement I think.
      Even if I do have some watches that I love that are really big, it's hard to deny the ease and convenience small watches bring to the table.

  • @Sabundy
    @Sabundy ปีที่แล้ว +6

    But I think that a lot of Seiko fans are missing the reality that Seiko has to move up market in order to stay in business as a result of the smart watch onslaught. The low end of the market has been hard hit by smart watches. And Seiko is a horology company. Not a tech company. So they are not going to compete in smart watches. Thus their best option is to go up market ala Rolex, Omega etc ....

If anything, Citizen has yet to tell me a good story that gets me to buy in, and I'm not quite sold on the aesthetics either. I've been singing the praises of Citizen for 20 yrs. Collecting vintage has proven they are much more robust, their manual and automatic movements are better designed and far more durable, never had ANY problems with fine tuning their timing, just all round bette watches at a superior price point . I started out with a handful of Seiko's, ALL OF THEM dropped indices and date surrounds in hot temperatures. Battery life was poor , even with genuine Seiko batteries fitted.. I've got Citizens dating back to the early 40's , mostly 60's onwards though. all still working just fine, other than the ones bought very cheaply for spares.
    Anyone that hasn't already done so, give them a go, you won't regret it.

    Totally agree on the offer Seiko has for women, it sucks, I got my mother a regular Seiko 5. Also yeah, as someone who has both the SKX and the NY0040, the Flightmaster and the Nighthawk and the BN0150 I can say that Citizen overall puts more effort into quality control. While they don't have the same history and as many iconic pieces they definitely are an outstanding brand and this 37mm offer looks great, especially the blue one.
    When the prices drop a bit I'll definitely consider it.

    I think Citizen was late to launching The Promaster 37mm models. Why ?
    Cause Seiko already launched Model Prospex PADI Solar Diver SNE569, 571, 573, 575 .......
    The specification is :
    - 38mm case diameter
    - Solar power movement
    - 46mm lug to lug
    - 20mm lug width
    - drill lug hole (for easy strap changes)
    - Sapphire glass
    - 200m water resistant
    - 120 click bezel rotation (aluminum bezel insert)
    - Price around US $ 335
    Please don't compare Eco Drive (Solar) watch with automatic movement watch, cause not Apple to Apple.
    Seiko is already launching Seiko 5 automatic sports 38mm, too.

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix ปีที่แล้ว

      There used to be the Promaster BN0000 that was 40mm. beautiful layout. It has a small crown, the only con. I wish Citizen would bring it back with a bigger crown and the more current hands. That was a winner.

    Very cool watches. I have an skx007 which I love. Pro masters look more sporty to me than skx which have some pretensions to dress/luxury. To me these go head to head with seiko solar tuna. I’d go citizen every time.

    All Citezin' s bezels align unlike Seiko . I am looking more at Citezin because i am not paying 1200 usd for a Seiko . Or pay for those crappy Seiko 5s

    • @PocketUau
      @PocketUau ปีที่แล้ว

      Citizen's bezels may feel cheap to rotate. They're typically gritty, notchy and hollow feeling on some of the newer models. Seiko has that 120 click glide mechanism with a different sound for full clicks and half clicks. Great stuff. Alignment is solved by taking it back to the store or with DIY, although the prices don't align with some QC episodes. Seiko needs serious work!

    I don't go crazy for citizen but it's hard to argue they aren't making some good watches. My girlfriend was flexing on me the other day because her citizen watch she paid $120 is solar powered, has an electronically automated world timer feature, and the date is controlled by perpetual calendar. I wear automatic watches, I'd have to spend many thousands of dollars to get that stuff.

    I'd love it if they could find a a way of making the eco drive movement have a higher beat rate. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to quartz type movements so if they could make it look closer to an auto I think theyd smash it out of the park.

    Why... Why why why do they always go to the extreme other direction TOO MUCH! 37mm for a diver?? Yeah the original promaster was too big for me. But going from 44 to 37 is ridiculous (and i have 6.5" wrists). 38 minimum. 39-40 would've been much better

    • @JeeGee114
      @JeeGee114 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original Pro master diver is 42 mm. The NY0040. The first Fugu also. They wear smaller than de SKX. Try one they are still cheap and with real diving pedigree (Marina Militare).

    The just need to refine their more "elegant" proposals, because they can be a bit more boring than presages and several of the prospects. This is subjective. You can easily see the high quality in The Citizen watches, but if you zoom out, the designs are a bit bland.

  • @davidmccay9994
    @davidmccay9994 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you kidding me? 36.5mm? Why must Citizen live at the extremes? The original was too big at 44mm, and this new one is too small. Sweet spot for a smaller diver is 39mm, maybe 38.
