I really love how teeny it is, but the light temperature settings and the waterproofing of the Paperwhite make it the better choice for me. I wish this were an actual mini Paperwhite, with those two added features it would be perfect.
I got my Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition a year ago and I love it. I just purchased the Denim base Kindle for the smaller and lighter form for on the go. Both are lightweight but it’s amazing how the base model feels much lighter.
I have a kindle Paperwhite 2, kindle Oasis 2, kindle Paperwhite 5, and I'm still tempted to buy this new kindle, solely because of the portability and how light it is.
@@electrologyMy kindle Paperwhite 2 got so old and has battery issues. Then I got Kindle Oasis 2, which doesn't have warm light. Ended up buying kindle Paperwhite 5 on black Friday, as it was heavily discounted and has warm light, plus a faster processor.
I love the sunken display of the basic for ultimate crisp text but the warm light is so important too… I’d prob pick the basic because when I got the newest paper white last year, I was rly annoyed w the glare. when I got the kobo Libra 2, It was certain I’d never go back to a flush screen.
i wish this would have had the colour temp and the water resistance and I would have bought it as a second kindle! I have the Paperwhite and the colour temp is critical to not getting migraines when reading for me. I would LOVE if this was literally an exact but mini version, as i am petite and find my paperwhite slightly large and I do get sore hands after awhile. Plus, the smaller size is more pocketable like you said and that would be a great selling point for me as well. I wouldn't get rid of my 6.8 inch but having the option of switching between the two would have been really nice. I just can't justify spending the money when it can't go the places I go. I live in Canada, and in my area it is snowy much of the year. I can't have a device that can't handle some melting snow or damp hands, rain, or any of that. It just doesn't make sense for me to buy as an on the go device!
I have several (PW4, PW5, PW5 SE, Oasis 3, Voyage, PW2, Basic 10, Basic 11) and I use my basic Kindle 11 at work (lunch break) and the PW5/Oasis/Voyage at home. The others fill random roles depending on how I feel. My wife uses my PW5 SE.
I have 5 kindles Fire, 1 paperwhite, 1 fire pad, each for the different language I read, watch . I just ordered it, mainly being light and can carry in my purse. My biggest wish is that Amazon USA would allow to buy books from Amazon UK, Spain ,Kindle books that are not sold in the USA. For this reason I also bought a Barnes and Noble eReader for ebooks I can't find in Amazon.
Love the review! Fully agree, wish this was the Paperwhite mini. I care more about the water proofing + battery life than anything, as I’d love to make this my main Kindle, but makes it tough to justify bringing this one on vacation/travel since it’s not waterproof. Hopefully we don’t have to wait another 3 years for them to realize the potential! I’ll probably use both devices - one for on the go, and one at home.
I don't understand why Amazon don't make a Kindle with everything - Type C ports, at least 15 W charging with up to 3 Amp current(so you wouldn't have to buy an ancient power brick specifically for your Kindle or be stuck charging it even more slowly through your laptop) 300 ppi screen, ip69 waterproofing(which means it can also resist a blast of water through a shower head and also hot water) and even a solar panel on the back so that by exposing the back to the sun you can charge the Kindle increasing battery life even further(maybe even infinity if you go on a tropical vacation and forget to bring your charger!) 400$ would be a fair price for such a device. Keep the form factor small since we can increase font size anyway
I’m new to the World of Kindle so I think the Basic will be fine for me. I don’t like the rubbery feel of the back of the Paper White. And I think I’ll prefer the size and lightness of the new Basic. The only thing I’m torn is whether to go for Black or Denim Blue as I saw another person review it and they said that they found the blue edging a bit distracting while reading compared to the Black. Do you still prefer the Blue ? 🤔
The waterproofing doesn't bother me either. And, BTW, I'm been using a Kindle since 2012, in the bath, every day. I've never dropped it! Famous last words! 😉😉
I purchased the paper white and love the temperature soft look and would definitely miss this feature. It is very soft on the eyes. I just got mine on sale for the price of the new kindle basic, $100. I am sooo happy with it
@@TimeIdleNo dude. In India also amazon sale is going on. But the discount is for only paperwhite 5th gen and kindle basic 2022 has no offer. So now both devices are at same price.
Thank you for the review I am a first time Kindle buyer. I went with the Basic 2022 for the size and how light it is. I do agree that waterproof would be a plus but was not a game changer I also got the fabric cover so it feels like reading a book and having the on off at the bottom is not a problem So far I am happy with my choice
I have an Oasis for home and a basic Kindle for when I travel. I love both (I use the dark mode to compensate for the absence of warm light on the Kindle). If I only had one Kindle I would probably have chosen the Paperwhite (8GB, no ads).
I'm still rocking my Kindle 4 from 2014. The battery unfortunately started to lost it's glory, I have to charge it weekly.. I'm still undecided if the vanilla Kindle or the Paperwhite would be better to replace it eventually.
I'm thrilled for this. I'm one of the people that dislike all the bigger screens coming out. The PW5 is as big as I will go lol. My favorite screen was the original Oasis. I just hated the battery. But, yes... I just ordered this. Looks like a great device
I have the 2019 Basic Kindle and I still love it. I do not like how the Paperwhite looks and I find it too big for me. I really hope they just come out with a waterproof Basic Kindle next time with the same size and I hope they make white Kindles again.
Also wish it had the temp option but now that I bought it I find myself just using dark mode at night so that makes it easy to live without the warmth control
I compared my 2022 with my 2019 and used the same font, size, boldness etc on both. The 2019 somehow had three extra lines of text. Plus to me the 2022 doesn't look any sharper and the text on the 2019 looks darker.
I own a kindle paperwhite 11th generation 2021 model. It's my first ever kindle. I'm trying to decide whether to get another kindle, and whether to get another paperwhite, or the basic. The reason? My mom and I both love to read, and she hasn't been able to read for about 5 years due to cateracts, but she can read on a kindle so she has hijacked mine, meaning I don't get to read much. 😂
Mmm... for me I need 2 things on a kindle: -- The pageturning animation is important because it helps me know if I accidentally clicked backwards/forwards and I know how to get back. (On my current kindle, I accidentally turn pages and can't immediately tell if i went forwards or backwards, a bit confusing!) -- Warm light for night reading Only for these two things I'm not getting it :(
I take my kindle basic on dive trips. They have those touch screen compatible water proof pouches. If I have decompression stops to make, I can read it. The smaller form factor and light weight is important for me. Plus if it floods, it’s not like I lost the premium version.
As someone who likes to set the background black with white text, I don't think I'll miss the color temperature. But I can see it being very useful otherwise.
I have the Signature PW and I love it. I have an older Oasis (I may upgrade if they update with anything new/cool) I am going to purchase the scribe at some point. I want large reading area and the 10" I think I will love unless it's just too heavy. I do dig that denim color on the new kindle. I say if you prefer small and or are new to ereading that is most definitely the way to go. Make good gifts this year too. It's way to small for my taste, I want more actual book size. Thanks for great reviews!!
I've got it as a mini version. I was surprised that it is much lighter than my Kindle Paperwhite. Though the basic one is without any cover yet. I don't think it is save to carry it without any cover. If I were looking for a first one I'd go for a paperwhite. It's the best offer for it's price. And in most cases you'd need a larger screen. However, as device for travelling, it's nice to have a smaller brother. And there is one more thing about Kindle in general. They keep the progress of your reading, so it's amazing that you can pick the book and proceed from the point you've left it.
Just like what Faiz said, do it But it also means you get a bigger screen which is nit bad at all because it doesn’t feel big either. I have it but I’m also a sucker for smaller devices and I think this new basic kindle with the Matte display (I prefer it over the flush display) makes up for it. Also, don’t worry about battery. @@VanJR.Both sunken display and flush display are same while reading in dark environment right ? I mean flush display get glare while there is external source of light. Otherwise both type display are same or is there text sharpness display difference in dark environment also ?
Not necessarily because it would just be a smaller Paperwhite mini at that point. It would be like Apple having multiple screen size options for iPhones and iPads
@@FaizAly I agree with that, but Amazon has never tried to go the pro or mini way with kindles like phone companies do, so they needed enough differences to make people want to splurge for the PW11
