There is already an issue with a yellow band along the bottom. Many reports online, especially on Reddit. They kaleido screen is the same as on other recent color e-ink devices, so it's something specific to Kindle.
@502legends4 Good for you! However, most folks apparently cannot tolerate the yellow banding, and cannot unseen the issue. That is why the color soft release is in utter shambles right now.
@@JonDisnard I'm shocked that someone would act as if you should just be happy that a very expensive Kindle only has one giant flaw. I returned two Paperwhites because when I turned to the next page, I landed somewhere else in the book and never on the next page. I guess I would be told it's only one issue and I should live with it.
@debra2700 yeah, I guess some people are easily tricked into situations beyond their self interest.... Ever by themselves. I'm glad you didn't tolerate bad products
Yes! I’m not sure whether to wait it out or just get used to no buttons. It seems useless to wait but then I’ll be so pissed if they release one next year or the year after
Great, honest review. I have the ColorSoft and I’m enjoying it. I do have a yellow tint on the bottom of the screen, but it doesn’t really impact my reading experience. I’m going to wait to see if a software update addresses that issue. Outside of comic book reading, I feel like those who annotate will enjoy the ColorSoft, as you annotate in 4 different colors.
Shipping times have gone from a few days, pushed back now 3-5 weeks. No word from Amazon that I’ve been able to find. Very interested to know what is going on with this device.
@@FaizAly Whomp Whomp they started shipping and didn't fix the issue. If anything all they did was try to adjust the display to hide the yellowing. Providing a software fix for a hardware problem.
Thanks for this. I almost forgot to never buy the 1st version of any electronic device. I guess I have to stick to the latest Paperwhite, instead. It's just disappointing that the front panel is still black even if you choose a different color of the back chassis 😮💨
I’ve seen so many reviews where people are putting this next to the other models, and even in black-and-white, the text is noticeably blurrier. Mainly due to the type of screen they had to use for the color display. If you put it side-by-side you can see it easily so I’m quite shocked you hadn’t noticed that. As others have mentioned, due to the really bad reviews I would never consider this for myself.
All caleido screens is a lot worse due to the nature of them. They are darker due to the RGB film and that film also adds a moire pattern that blurs things so even if the black screen is same res as normal black and white it will appear blurrier sadly
Color EReaders are really for specific use cases, if you read graphic novels, manga, comic books, Kids Books, and very dependent on color highlighting, etc. then the color EReaders are a positive/enjoyable experience but if you only read books that are text heavy (and do NOT highlight passages) then color might be a luxury or a trend setter item but not a necessity.
I can't see any ereader being a desirable experience for anyone who reads a lot of comics. The colour saturation and fidelity just looks terrible compared to paper or an LCD/OLED screen.
@@Richpaisley In the future we may not have a choice as publishers move away from print and into digital distribution. Additionally, the weight of LCD/OLED devices does not appeal to everyone.
This may sound lame but I would pay the extra money just to have book covers in color. It may have something to do with the time in which I grew up. Back then you had to go to a physical place to get books. And if you didn't live in a big city with a huge bookstore, you never had any idea of the huge number of titles you simply had no access to. Books were something you physically valued and every aspect of the actual item was part of the experience. Even something as simple as the cover. (Same with albums, tapes and CDs, the cover art is important to me.)
Here are my updates for the perfect Kindle: Change the power button placement. I’ve accidentally turned off my kindle while reading many times. Update software to show an arrow indicating which way you had turned the page, right or left. 20% faster processor for a more seamless experience. Include a wireless remote page turner. Reduce the kindle’s weight to make it more comfortable for longer reads.
Great suggestions! I'd just add onto your one about the remote page turner. Having some kind of attachment with page turn buttons would be great - similar to how the oasis had.
It’s a new adhesive apparently that reacts to warmth not used on other kindles. Shame I loved idea of this kindle even for just seeing colour of book cover and the occasional colour book
Never been this early for a video of yours ahaha I am about to buy one, but seeing the delivery delays….i am a bit worried it wouldn’t arrive before Xmas.
@@FaizAly This is the very reason people shouldn't get rewarded for pushing products for Amazon. There's serious problems with this Kindle and I hope you hear from everyone who bought one on your advice and ended up sending it back.
I guess I'm confused - If he's been using it for a few days, and the battery has already dropped to 35%, how is this thing going to get anywhere close to 6-8 weeks?
It not just good for Comic books or Manga, it's absolutely great for people who highlight their books. I like to highlight great quotes from prolific authors, and not all quotes are the same. But it's that a killer feature with all the money..... Nope!
For just £40 more, you could get a basic iPad with a larger screen that has far better vibrancy, contrast, and brightness for reading comics. For reading straight-forward books in black and white, Kindles are definitely a better experience, but for comics and graphic novels, iPads are a better option, in my opinion.
This is why being an early adopter is not usually a good move. You have to take accept the 1st generation tech with all the bugs and glitches that get worked out in later versions. If the yellow band is software-based, then a fix should be coming. If it's hardware-based, well, you're skrewed. The reviews for this thing are consistently bad. How did Amazon let this thing ship like this? I can only imagine that the QA department at Amazon is not a good place to work right now. I think that I'll stay with my 10th gen Paperwhite.
my take amazon should instead roll out the spectra 6 or qdel display from sharp in the next gen , I would love to have a scripe size device that would do colour, but not kalido 3 theres to many others in the market some with android making it easy to switch so a fire device with this technology in the fire max 11 size would be perfect the reson I say that they could roll out a faster processor which would benifit the spectra 6 display as well as qdel display
Your statement about black and white reading is completely false. Perhaps you haven’t read on this long enough and compared to the PW. The Colorsoft is significantly grainy which makes reading text significantly worse compared to PW. I have both and its really hard to read on the Colorsoft.
The Colorsoft is getting horrible reviews on Amazon but people who get paid to sell their products on these TH-cam channels couldn't care less. I'm not going to sacrifice the sharpness and clarity of a black and white page for a book cover that's in color or the ability to read comic books which aren't meant to be read on kindles. The price for these Kindles is insane. Amazon really screwed up.
It’s got an adhesive issue that due to heat causes a yellow tint at bottom of screen when in bight white mode. Not good enough and seems naff that amazon suggest only a few units affected when it’s all units. Sooner or later all will have this issue. Feel sorry for designers because kindle is one of best colour e ink readers compared to say kobo.
Digital comic book readers get iPad mini last gen 399 brand new lower open box or get the iPad 9 for 190. The colors on this are just not for comic books of the modern era. Just one dudes opinion
The color e-ink devices are still not good enough. If color is important to you, a tablet with an lcd, led or oled screen is better. The only benefit to a color e-ink device is if you want to see washed out colors while sitting outside in the bright sunlight. I have a Boox tab mini c. It is ok for black and white, but the color is too washed out to be worth it. The kindle HD 8 has a great screen and is the right size for reading, but it lacks the ability to easily load other book apps. I have quite a few books on Google Books also. I want an 8 or 9 inch android tablet with an LED or OLED screen, fast processor and plenty of ram and storage. The Lenovo tab M8 is close to being great, but is really slow and only has 2 GB of ram. It does work for reading with the Kindle app and the Google Play Books app.
In an ideal world color eReaders would be able to display color at a similar level to a high quality magazine - but right now they look like a washed out print from a cheap inkjet printer. Regular tablet screens aren’t really ideal either because they just look like a screen.
a 7in display is not great for graphic novels it's a lot of zooming in to see text. Plus the grainy screen and text and terrible battery life and the yellow tint on the bottom of the screen was a huge turn off for me.
They could've taken back the Voyage design and get an advantage with the return of physical buttons while keeping the classical form factor. As it is, they are late and this device has no allure that makes it worthy $300 -not even a pen! A Kindle fan like me could've adored it, but now that I also use other apps to rent and read books, I am not keen on the idea of spending that much momey for a closed ecosystem
