I've been using the 12.9 pro as an opera singer for rehearsals and coachings. The only thing that it's much heavier to lug around and I'm going to buy an iPad Air 4 as my "work" iPad that I can leave at the opera house and have my 12.9 at home for personal use and practicing. I'm anticipating that I'll be able to bring both iPads to coachings. I'm opting for the Air despite the smaller screen size because the music is meant to be rehearsed but ultimately memorized so it'll be easier having a lighter more compact device since I bring the 12.9 in a case with a keyboard. Thanks for the review!

Great video! I definitely agree that if you're gonna use it for nothing but music, the Air might be the best bet, but if you think you'll use it for anything else, get the Pro!

I agree, but then with the Air, you have to compromise with the smaller screen size...

This video is just what I needed!! I've been looking for a size comparison of the iPad Air and the Pro. I've been heavily considering upgrading to either one for my piano studies in college. Do you use yours a lot for sheet music/ use it enough to justify the price?
Thanks for the great video! ❤

Hi Ronni, I’m so glad this was helpful for you! I bought my iPad during my last year of school (and during the height of covid) so most of the ways I’ve used it have been in my private teaching.
I use my iPad literally all the time, to read sheet music, to make notes, as a second screen for my computer, and also just for fun.
If you like handwriting notes in class, the iPad is great because you can hand write and never run out of paper/easily organize/make really cool notes.
Personally I think the price of either is justifiable!

Thanks Elizabeth! This was so helpful! Especially seeing the sheet music comparison! Do you have any experience with blue tooth keyboards with your ipads?

I'm curious how comfortable (or not) it is to read sheet music on the Pro with two pages displayed at once in landscape mode in forScore? As someone who uses the app on the iPad Air 4 for the piano, that was my only frustration with the screen size of the Air. In portrait mode, I find sheet music to be a tad small, but it's not uncomfortable for me. I wanted to display things in landscape mode to reduce how often I had to turn pages by tapping on the screen, especially when playing an accompaniment part with someone, but this became a moot point when I bought my own Bluetooth pedal recently, so I can just stick to portrait mode now.
I only play music as a hobby, but as an engineering student, I find the Air - even with just 64 GB - to be more than enough for my daily purposes without any of the extra Pro features. Then again, I don't do any video/audio editing on it - it was never meant to replace my laptop, which still does all the heavy lifting!

Reading two pages side by side in landscape mode is a bit uncomfortable, unless I have my face buried in my iPad. I could practice like that, as a violist, but as a pianist, it would probably be too small and too far away from you to comfortably read.
Thanks for sharing your perspective that the Air works for you-I’m so glad to hear that! I think the Air is great if you’re not looking for a laptop replacement! Also, super excited that you got a Bluetooth pedal. It’s a game changer!!

@@ElizabethKnaub Thanks for sharing! I'd definitely like to try out the extra screen real estate on the Pro one day with forScore either way. I got a Pageflip Dragonfly for my pedal - quite pricey, but the extra pedals can be configured to activate links in forScore, so it's super useful for handling repeats and multiple endings in accompaniment parts! Speaking of "tech" in music, I'd never appreciated the usefulness of the transpose feature in digital pianos until I started playing with my violist classmate since most of the solos we work on were arranged for violin! 😄

In the landscape mode what settings did you change in MobileSheets to make sure that the page flips to the next part (lower side of the same page number one) ?? As I try it, I see that the page changes to page number two (but not the same page).

If I may ask... If I recall correctly, Forscore has buttons where you can press on, for example, a coda and it'll take you to where that coda is. Are you able to sync the Bluetooth foot pedal to do that?

I'm trying to find a grippy case that will be fine with the ipad pro so it'll sit on my piano music holder, but struggling. UK based :)
