    I really love all kinds of music including popular music. Pop music is everywhere, and I don't see people clamoring for more classical music in popular music concerts. I would really prefer it if Taylor Swift sticks t what she's good at. When people go to a classical concert, it's because they love that music, and would probably stay away if the concert incorporated pop music. Not because they don't like pop music, but because it's not the right place for it.

    Thank you Elizabeth, this is exactly the info I need with one additional request. My 73 yr old eyes have deteriorated to the point where my left eye is now 20/80 at best, thanks to glaucoma. Reading sheet music has become a real challenge but I'm not ready to quit the choir in my church. Since I am able to use "high contrast mode" or "color inversion mode" on my laptop and android phone I find the black background and white font to be the easiest to read. So I'm wondering if the devices you describe can "invert" a pdf file to that type of contrast. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again. KW in SC

    Love, just love using the app, but I still can't get my head around microphone/quavers (eighth notes for 'Muricans) button and what it does, but your quick precis at least gave me an idea what to look for in the manual. And speaking of the manual it's the one thing that is severely bad for the TE Tuner - it has zero illustrations/screenshots which severely limits its usefulness. EDITED TO ADD: Turns out it's "Auto Reference Notes" like how the F were we supposed to know that without any screenshots (sorry, aimed at the developers, not you at all).

    hi, I've been watching your videos about ForScore. I am new to ForScore and your videos have been helpful, thanks. I have run into an issue that I have been unable to solve and I wonder if you have a video concerning this or if you know the answer. I have done annotations on a score and when I share the file as a PDF for any purpose including printing the annotations disappear from the PDF. Any thoughts on this?

    I'm kind of torn; I think it's cool that you can get even more functionality out of an already great app, BUT I think it's a shame that you need to pay more on top of the original payment for what should be features available to everyone. I guess the devs need to get their bag 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I do have the pro and feel like I could have been more frugal as yourself. That said, I need to re watch videos as it seems really difficult for me to organize .. church song books, camp fire sing along types of books etc.. ... No all PDF file systems give forscore as an option to save to ,.,. so I have to import and not even sure where that goes when I do it and then have to fiddle around (pun intended) ... Thanks you..

    Great video. Interesting take on the iPad models coming from professionals other than typical tech TH-camrs focused on photography and videography! I have a question about a feature Apple just released that baffled tech TH-camrs and that’s the new eye tracking feature for iPad. Is that a feature that could enhance or detract from reading sheet music?

    I agree that the Bluetooth pedal is more reliable & more practical than AirPods or face gestures but unfortunately, a pedal is not an option for us that play pipe organ. Only 1 AirPod is necessary for page turning. Facial gestures are only available with 3rd generation & newer IPad Pro. However, mine is first generation so I was interested in whether it’s worth upgrading my iPad. From your review, seems like similar unreliability. Thanks. Ok forward to your review of forscore pro

  • @Harry777
    @Harry777 หลายเดือนก่อน

    After watching this, there's no way I'd risk screwing up a performance AND look ridiculous playing with an airpod in when I could just use a pedal instead. I was also especially disappointed in the winking gestures which literally didn't work at all! The mouth turning was okay, but it's just too risky.

    I enjoy your videos. Thanks. I bought an iPad Pro because of the large screen size back in 2016 specifically for music to use with MuseScore. I also scanned in sheet music in pdf to play & used a simple pdf reader. Then I found ForScore which was & still is a revelation. I heard I could use AirPods for ForScore page turning when I started with pipe organ & promptly bought a pair for that purpose. So, although my Pro has a large screen, it’s never been large enough. I always wanted at least a 16” or 17” touchscreen but ForScore is IOS only & I also want no hands or feet page turning. I’ve not been totally happy with the AirPods head movement page turning & thought the newer IPads with front facing cameras with eye gestures would be more accurate. I haven’t seen all your videos as yet but do you have any regarding page turning effectiveness with AirPods vs newer Pros with a front facing camera? Anyways, my ideal music touchscreen device would have a screen size of 20” with page hand/foot free page turning using Forscore or another app equally good. Any suggestions?

    • @ElizabethKnaub
      @ElizabethKnaub 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use forscore, which works mostly without wifi! You’ll need some way to add the files to the app (either scanning paper music or downloading/sending yourself pdf files over wifi), but then reading the sheet music and annotating on it is all done locally, wifi-free! I have a whole playlist of forscore tutorials if you’d like to see what the app is like!

      @ElizabethKnaub 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everything is just slightly different now, since I made this video two years ago, but after getting to the top bar, you can get the annotation tools by either tapping on the squiggly line icon (like a pen drawing - it’s the first icon on the right), or by just writing on the score with an Apple Pencil. Again, this bar looks just slightly different due to updates, but the previous/next page options are still there but look a little different. They’re now these type of symbols < > next to the checkmark at the top right. I hope this helps!

      I haven’t had many outdoor gigs recently, but when I do, I’m generally under shade or a tent to protect my instrument. If you’re worried about the glare from the sun or stage lights, a matte screen protector can help a lot! There’s also screen brightness to worry about too. I’ve been fine using my iPad outside, but I do like to keep my screens somewhat dark. The new iPad Pro does go up to 1,000 nits, brighter than the older models!

    With every jury I've gone through (today was my third), I've noticed almost equally spread positive and negative feedback. Negative is only ever things I have to work on. This of course doesn't surprise me, but what does is how it isn't just different this semester but is also how conflicting some of everyone's criticisms can be between different judges that surprises me the most. Did that ever happen to you? You've already mentioned the judges simply being a source of feedback and acknowledgement as you progress from each semester, but have you experienced a semester where any of the judges criticized on the jury sheets in a way that they could debate with each other about what they heard? This has been the case for my singing voice semester as a filler for taking piano lessons out of order (goes fall spring fall spring and I started in the spring my second semester) but for piano it has not once conflicted the way it did today. I'm not surprised because my singing voice receives SUPER mixed reviews all the time of half the people hating it and the other half loving it, but I just want to know if you've experienced that in any of your juries.

    • @ElizabethKnaub
      @ElizabethKnaub 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've definitely received mixed feedback in juries, but I noticed it even more when I've changed viola teachers. One teacher taught me to use my wrist for bow changes, and the other teacher told me to never use my wrist! It was so confusing for me. I ended up doing some research and found the way that made the most sense for my playing style and body, but I also realized that you take what helps, and leave what doesn't. Everyone is going to have a different opinion about your playing, and everyone thinks that *their* opinion is the right one. You can't please everyone, but being authentic to yourself and being happy with what you choose to do will help you feel more justified no matter what feedback you receive.

    which is functionally larger? 12.9" ipad or 14" s9? Considering the Ipad is a few mm wider then which display will show a larger image when considering crop and stretch? (for example does the s9 ultra "stretch" vertically the sheet? Thanks!

    • @ElizabethKnaub
      @ElizabethKnaub 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried the s9 in person, but it has a 16:10 aspect ratio, whereas the iPad has a 4:3 aspect ratio. So, the iPad screen is a little more square which I think helps display music larger on its screen, as long as the music is a standard width without wide margins. The S9 screen might be better suited to taller/longer music, with wider margins. I hope that makes sense! However, since the S9 is a larger screen overall, that will probably just give you a larger image anyway.

      Hi, thanks for watching, I’m so glad you enjoy my content! 😊 Being a private music teacher can look different for a lot of different people depending on how you run things. I’ve used a few online platforms to teach students from, where they advertise for you but take a percentage of your lesson fee. It’s a great way to get students, but you have to charge a lot to make your goal income. 24 out of my 27 students now are all through just me: they pay me directly and I found them through local schools, online postings, and from my website. I make the most by this direct method and I can do whatever I want by having my own policies! My biggest advice is to think of the work/life balance you’d like to have, and base your policies around that. Determine working hours for yourself and don’t teach outside of those hours. Don’t offer makeup lessons if it would ruin your schedule. The more you operate as a business, I find the easier it is to hold true to those policies and treat my time and health with respect. I talked a little bit about my income and goals in my first video of the year, 2024 studio reset and goals. Right now I’m making between $45-50,000 a year through teaching, freelance writing, and gigs. I know that’s not a ton to live off of, especially if you’re on your own, but this is my third full year doing this full time and my business keeps growing and growing. Any career choice or change is big decision! Being a musician can feel like a rocky career, but there will ALWAYS be kids who want to learn how to play music. Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to DM me on Instagram or Facebook @lifefromtheviolasection if you’d like to have a more personal conversation. I don’t always see my messages on there, so feel free to bug me if I don’t see it! Best of luck! 😊

    I really want to prosue a Piano Music Performance career where I can either participate in or maybe even creating amazing music for video game soundtracks. But my big problem is that I have less than a year of experience with the piano and almost a Senior in High school. What advice would you'd give up to help me?

      Hi there, it's hard to give personal advice without knowing more about your background and what your playing is like, so if you can, try talking about this with someone who knows you well. Here's what I feel like I can say - piano performance seems to be very competitive. I'd personally taken piano lessons from the age of 6-19 and wouldn't have been able to get into the piano performance program at my conservatory (though piano wasn't my main instrument focus - more of a fun stress reliever). Composing, though, could maybe be a little "easier" to get into quickly. You can write objectively good music without having a huge knowledge base in traditional music theory - especially for video game soundtracks (as opposed to writing classical style pieces like concertos and symphonies). I'd say experiment the best you can with making music your main focus before you need to decide, and if you're not already, take lessons and talk to music teachers/professionals at school or in any circles you may be in. It's hard to give generalized advice like this because musicians come from all different backgrounds and learn at different paces. The music industry (at least, the classical music industry) is hard to break into when you haven't been learning an instrument all your life. Not to say that it can't be done!! But there'll definitely be extra challenges in your way and probably a lot of catching up if you choose to pursue this. I hope this helps! It's a big decision that isn't fully in your hands and it's very nuanced. Best of luck, and feel free to DM me on Instagram if you'd like to talk more!

    This is so great! I would definitely suggest that if you can, put your "easiest" or lowest-priority audition first, and your "hardest" or highest-priority audition last, so you can use the easier ones as practice for the big one!

      That’s such a great tip! I really wish I’d included that today. It can help, too, if you get accepted to the “easier” schools first as a little confidence boost 😊
