@@luigimini2124 People are paid based on hours, not all months are the same length, and some weeks are cut into the next month. Therefore it's more accurate to state yearly pay.

Zeera P English is a lot of fun!! Going off of the questions he asks: the major tends to be very female dominated, the general stereotype is that you’ll become a teacher, and a lot of the time classes are built around discussing books and poems and plays. Super chill time, in my opinion
Hello, I'm from the Philippines and I'm an English Language Studies major and yes, the most common stereotype is that you'll become a teacher. But a lot of us are aspiring Lawyers or Professors in the future. I think you should really go pursue that degree in English. Stay safe ❤️

And I know because I'm a CS major in an engineering school, yeah it's as rigorous as any other engineering curriculum unless it's a BA (but a BA in CS is more rare, most CS degrees are Bachelor of Science/BS).

She asked for after grad school. Which is after her masters. So yes, a biochem starting salary after masters in 85k-110k even higher if you start a PhD and can land a job as a TA or Proff at a good uni or if you get drafted into a research team.

leaderdblusbro i don't know about the salaries in the US but in europe no matter the major for at least the first year of your career you're only getting paid minimum wage. Because you don't really know how to do anything when you're out of uni. You have to learn your job by actively doing it.
Sure, there are exceptions of very talented people, but for the average graduate that is the reality

@@Naruto-bp6hm Oh I know, I was explaining to the person who posted this. I'm from Australia and $60k is nothing - you're barely able to survive on that here. We have the highest minimum wage in the world but because everything here is so expensive, our minimum wage doesn't cover much. I get $21.75 an hour and I still can't afford to move out and rent a place by myself (I'm 22).

Academics are very much underpaid, especially if you’re near the bottom of the academic ladder. An academic postdoc in the US makes less than a garbage collector and that’s the truth of it! I work 50-60 hours a week in the lab as a postdoc and get paid very little for the work I do. But saying that, I’m really in it for the Science and not for the money, and knowing that helps me get through the day

MOHAMEDBJJ a track! in college you can major in anything you want (economics, biology, etc..) while being on a pre-med track. sometimes they have medicine & the humanities, but medicine is not a major at most universities at the undergraduate level

If you had the slightest aptitude for research you would have references for your argument, which is by the way, completely uncritical and entirely opinion based. Engineering majors study the most at an average of 19 hours a week(www.mymajors.com/blog/college-majors-study/). Which, this makes sense as Engineering majors statistically have higher IQs than most other majors, the lowest being 124 IQ, which is still considered intellectually superior(thetab.com/us/2017/04/10/which-major-has-highest-iq-64811).

Well it’s really what career you pursue after the degree. Like there’s a definite difference between like a chemical engineer and a forensic scientist.

It depends she’s obviously planning on grad school. If she goes to med school it’ll be much higher. Most people with a bio Chem major don’t enter the work force after undergrad so it’s a pretty impossible question to answer.

@John doue Quebec It's because jobs for those people are mostly government or non-profit jobs. Think tanks, NGOs, journalism, or directly into politics are the ones that make the most sense and all of those are not hugely well paid. The more profitable option is probably to do public policy for a corporation, or go to law school.

@John doue Quebec Well, they aren't useless. It's a great pre-law major and a fair number of people badly want to work in politics even though it's very competitive and winner-take-all. It's just that entry level jobs are very low-paid. The people going into public sector jobs aren't the ones looking for stable, high salaries.

I feel like majority of majors don't have an associated job to them. Most majors prepare you for a variety of jobs. So the starting salary really just is a big ass guess lol

This reminds me of what happens in my profession when we choose a residency field. It’s basically a personality test. The jocks choose ortho. The ones with crazy eye-hand coordination become surgeons. The nerds (yeah, I know, we’re all nerds, different scale here) go into internal med subspecialties like renal or neuro. The do-gooder idealists (like me) do family medicine. The people who can watch the Lion King 50 times without getting bored go into peds. The crazy people choose psych. And so on…

He's at an expensive private college in Boston. It costs $72,000 a year to go there between tuition and room and board. So, while he's probably off base with his starting salary he's not wrong that it's low compared to the people he knows and their families -- probably he considers all new-grad salaries low.

My first job as an accountant pays 56k (in Dallas, TX so standard of living is a little high) and it felt like I had way more money than I knew what to do with. 60k for a single person is a TON.
It’s by metropolitan. 70k is considered low-income in SF.

The reason is that a lot of athletes choose communications as their major
Comm is seen as the easy major at a lot of schools. So my guess would be athletes at that school major in it because it's easy. At my school the stereotype is "failed out of their first major". Not saying I agree, just guessing.

Whenever he asks what’s a common stereotype and they answer “it’s easy” I’m always like “ART/DESIGN/FILM MAJOR??” And then they have a book major and I’m like T.T because I’m a design/film major and everyone thinks all we do is just play all day and in class but in reality, I have never pulled so many all nighters till I switched majors to this one (I used to be psych/political science) major)
