Tip; if you are waitlisted and you really want to go to the school, call (do not email) the admissions office. Happened to me. I was waitlisted and I called immediately and they admitted me before we got off the phone. Don't wait around.....they have space for you. Also, after you've been in the work force for 2-3 years no one cares where you went to school or what your GPA was. They care if you can get the job done.
@@robertgutierrez4696 If I remember correctly I just asked questions...like how long the wait list was, when I might hear something, etc. My goal in calling wasn't to actually get them to change their mind. I was seriously calling just to get more information about how the wait list process worked. I think my taking control and calling showed the admissions office I cared and wanted to go there. It may not work for everyone (and I wouldn't expect Ivy League level schools to do it) but it's worth a try. Don't just give up.

The two proudest days in an Asian mother's life, the day your son gets into a Ivy and the day he becomes doctor. I'm joking obviously, anyone would be proud of getting into Princeton, it takes a lot of hard work. I know when my son got into MIT he didn't sleep for 3 straight and it was probably a feeling of uncontrollable pride I hadn't felt since the day I got my doctorate. I think pride just hits so much harder when it is your children who have made you proud, a different sensation that I just can't describe.

Life isn't fair, that is just how it is, In the time that I grew up we couldn't afford to sit there and blame the system, we did everything and anything to get to the top despite everything that was stacked against us. Once you have power you can create change but without it your words will simply land of deaf ears. MIT not only provides you with a decently higher quality of education but more importantly acts as one form of a "ticket" to the networks that are most important in the industries that MIT is most known for research wise. Power is all about who you know, what you can do and what you can make others do.

Keep in mind, 2021 was one of the hardest years to get into colleges while 2020 was one of the easiest (cause a lot of people took gap years). I don’t mean this as a way to downplay anyone who got into where they wanted in 2020, just pointing this out so you don’t feel so bad about the rejections. If you got accepted in 2020, you are more than brilliant enough to be there. Even if you wouldn’t have been accepted another year, the only reason is that there are just so many applicants and so few places. So don’t be hard on yourself either way!

Since middle school and an obsession with the research from the professors, Princeton has been my dream school. Though I am keeping in mind that the people I'd enjoy most are the kind of people that would accept me. So congrats!! This is awesome!!! I was pretty bummed when I didn't get into mit or cornell, but ultimately I went to a private uni on a scholarship. I'm now working at my dream company as a bioengineer and couldn't be happier (about %5 hire rate). Sometimes the name of the school doesn't matter, but how you're able to leverage your knowledge and opportunities.

The real challenge starts when you are in college and after you graduate! Lots of other kids from "lesser" universities will be extremely successful later in life because college is when they truly apply themselves. I put "lesser" in quotes because most universities are more or less the same and have more resources than anyone can reasonably consume in 4 years. The biggest exception being research departments which have a lot more funding in top schools. The journey starts at college, so make sure to work hard consistently over a long period of time to achieve your dreams. Not for the prestige, but to make yourself happy!

this is why I think there should be a limit of like 10 schools that one person can apply to. If something like this were in place, wayyyy more people would get into their ACTUAL dream school because competition would be lower and acceptance rates would be higher :(

The real challenge starts when you are in college and after you graduate! Lots of other kids from "lesser" universities will be extremely successful later in life because college is when they truly apply themselves. I put "lesser" in quotes because most universities are more or less the same and have more resources than anyone can reasonably consume in 4 years. The biggest exception being research departments which have a lot more funding in top schools. The journey starts at college, so make sure to work hard consistently over a long period of time to achieve your dreams. Not for the prestige, but to make yourself happy!

I’m in highschool but like you when I was in middle school I was freaking out a lot more about college than I am now (I’m a sophomore now btw) I think it’s cause I already know my plan for how I’ll prepare for college admissions etc. Like how you’re nervous to do something when thinking about it but once you start doing it you realize it’s not that bad.
dont worry about college in middle school but make a plan freshman year of everything u want on ur application senior u will be so grateful
