  • This short episode was filmed at a location just outside Copenhagen. The 2 Red-breasted geese has been here for around 3 weeks and i decided to go see, film and photograph them despite the bad light if it was possible. Check out this short episode with this beautiful species!

Dennis, your handheld video is very impressive. Clearly you have a good technique and the gym membership must help. 😀

I’m also keen to test the G9II. Delivery in US expected on the 13th. Bird detect AF will be a game changer. Static video shots on a good tripod and fluid head still show shaking with my hand on manual focus ring with the OM1 at 1,000mm.

Hi Dennis: For your still photos of the red-breasted goose did you use the bird AI or simply an AF point on the subject? If you used the bird AI, what were your AF settings, if you do not mind? Thank you. PJI

I used bird AF from a medium middle AF area so i could grab it between the other birds and AF sensetivity was set to default 0 🙂

I’ve been testing the G9II specifically for bird slow motion video. There is good news and bad news.
-4K 60p has bird detect AF but not in 4K 120p. AF detect is not selectable in 120p.
-4K 60p places a yellow tracking box around the bird if it is quite large in frame. Eye detect appears only when the bird is almost filling the frame. In record the bird is not kept in focus. Half pressing the shutter while recording makes the focus box turn green and makes the subject sharp- however this locks the focus like S-AF and the green box won’t track the bird. Releasing a half pressed shutter causes a yellow box to find the subject again but it’s mostly never sharp. I used the Olympus M. Zuiko 40-150mm lens.
IBIS works very well on this lens but not with my 300mm f4 and 150-400mm f4.5
    - Viewfinder is ok but not for critical focus like the OM1.
    - Bird detect AF does an incredible job of finding birds in bushes, however these are not my “money” shots and the same problems with yellow and green box persists.
    - Battery life was a lot worse than the OM1.
I tried the OM1 with C-AF +tracking with bird detect on ducks in a pond. It outperformed the G9II shooting the same thing!
This is a shame because I really wanted this camera for slomo 60p at least.
I’ll return it as it also has a faulty function button. Disappointed. Looking forward to your findings.

Hmm dosent sound to good Timothy 🤨 i really need to try before i buy and it has to out perfom the OM-1 in Video by a good margin before i want it 😎 i had the same thoughts as you, i want it for reliable tracking AF and 120fps slowmotion

I hope you have more success than me! Maybe it would perform better with Panasonic lenses or future firmware updates?
