Just want to say thank you for showing Skegness in a positive light. I'm a resident and business owner in the town and these surveys can do SO much damage to the already difficult tourist industry, especially in the wake of the pandemic. Many businesses, b&b's and guest houses have suffered and these anonymous surveys do nothing to help. Thanks again, Tim!!
Whilst I mostly agree with your comments, may I add that Guest houses and b&bs have suffered due to the extortionate pricing of rooms for a small family.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Skegness whatsoever, it's clean and tidy, reasonably priced and loads to do. How this place has been voted worst is beyond me, have they not been to Dover?!
Just been to Skegness. Loved it. So much in such a small area. Lots of shops. Lots of arcades. Pretty much arsehole free. Really enjoyed our stay. Will be back, already booked again.
@@Matt19matt19 same we've been taking the kids since covid and we have returned every Yr infact 5 times in 2 and half yrs the kids love it and we are the abroad type of holiday people If skeg was a shithole we wouldn't of returned a second time never mind 5 and already trying to get back up there before kids go to school We was lucky to be there last week when it was heatwave, brilliant time!
I live in skeg and it makes me so mad when I hear its the worst seaside place in the country, its improved a lot and I think more improvements will be made, only downside the shops are not the greatest, the main beals shop was a great shop sold everything in that place, now its what Id call a tacky plaza, but the place gets so many visitors day trippers, weekenders, holiday weeks or fortnight's, come see the place for yourselves before judging, I think these people that just hear the name Skegness and that's it, let's class it the worst, come and see and judge for yourself.
Take no notice and yes it must be annoying we have been coming to Butlins nigh on 50 yrs and love coming into the town and yes some of the shopping area has changed a bit the sea front has slightly changed over the years everything is clean and tidy the fun fair is good the boat rides are good all i can say is some of the comments must come from SNOBs
Skegness is a old fashioned cheap family holiday for a few days , am from east Midland's , I went regular as a kid n still do as a adult, the rides probably do need to be updated ect ,
It's the best seaside town to come to, whatever the surveys say on a warm summer's day weekend the amount of people there says otherwise to me. It's always packed
It makes me so cross and upset that Skegness got the worst rating. I think someone must have a bias agenda. I have wonderful childhood memories of Skegness and still go there. It's a beautiful clean thriving seaside town and I love it
I think that's a very unfair rating for Skegness, it always seems pretty clean, easy to get around, the seasider bus service is great and all the tourist areas are all very nice.
Been plenty of times over the years and honestly don’t think it’s that bad. Did start to get a bit run down but nice to see it being rejuvenated. Think it’s biggest problem is some of the individuals it attracts
It doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I've heard it described. I've definitely been to grottier seaside towns. Maybe some people find all of the amusements tacky? They look mostly well-maintained and charming enough to me. Maybe I'll visit some day!
I go once a year for a day trip, typically, and aside from the Butlins waterpark needing a few touch ups (like reactivating the jacuzzi) it's really not bad at all. Good aquarium, seal sanctuary and pedal boats; crazy golf; okay beaches; and a good range of fish and chip restaurants. Shops are nothing special, though. Ingoldsmell Fantasy Island has a few decent attractions (indoor and outdoor) too.
I can't see why amusement arcades are always described as "tacky" by many. The UKs "best" resort Bamborough doesn't have them... doesn't have visitors either.
After avoiding Skeggy for about 20 years, I went back last year and have been 2 more times since. Its definitely changed. Stayed at the Quorn Hotel across from the Premier Inn, and it was brilliant. Had so much fun there, my niece loved it. Will go back again in a heartbeat.
Same we are the type of family that holidays abroad but since covid we've been skegness 5 times and each time the kids love it more! What you want for a British holiday it's all there at skeg although we will be trying Cornwall next year Haven't tried many holiday parks at skeg we've been to southview 5 times and find it absolutely perfect and that's not even on the main pleasure Beach or fantasy side its a 2 min drive probably 15 min walk with kids to pleasure Beach and its absolutely brilliant southview itself has that much stuff to do between the park itself, pleasure Beach and fantasy island there's more than enough stuff to do in a week I have no idea who would rate skeg the worst
It's a great cup of tea is skegness we love it Blackpool worse than skegness £185 to go in to the pleasure beach for 4 of use we was just with our kids skegness to me we love the place more for kids to do than Blackpool
2760ade, similar to what I was going to say. It’s not somewhere I’d want to go, simply because I prefer more quiet beaches rather than seaside towns with attractions, but you can just see from watching this video that there are plenty of people out having themselves a pleasant time.
The area with the shuttered huts is pending re-development. As mentioned the pier is under recent new ownership after decades of relative decline. It looks like they are serious about spending big money to revamp the whole attraction over the next few years. Large parts of the boating lake where you were and the corner right near the clock tower adjacent to the aquarium have new plans afoot. The council put out tenders just this past year for proposals to redevelop fair sized chunks of the more empty or run down areas right on the sea front. Prime spots for new ventures. Opposite the seal sanctuary the old town hall has also recently been sold off to a well known local businessman who has invested a lot on the sea front already such as the building with the pirates chip shop and bar you featured. So there is expected further developments there. The railway station which is first point of entry for a huge number of people will be revamped. There is a bit of an ongoing fight over pedestrianisation of the upper end of the main shopping street near the clock tower, perhaps a short term test will eventually see how that goes. This will all take time and nothing is for certain but the signs are good, that there is money flowing into the town and it still has attraction for investors. Locals are optimistic, it does look on the cards and hopefully will reverse quite a bit of the deterioration of prominent tourist areas of the town. Go back in 5 years and I think there will be quite a few changes.
Another great video Tim! I honestly think Skegness has been slowly improving every year for a while now. And I wouldn’t say it’s the worse in the UK at all.
One of the best seaside resorts in the country! Has one of the best climates. It doesn't rain ever day as it does at a certain large resort on the English West Coast. Neither does the sea disappear to somewhere in Ireland when the tide goes out. It isn't boring with steep pebble beaches like many resorts on the South Coast. We are all supposed to be 'village idiots' in Lincolnshire so perhaps WHICH Magazine think we are a pushover. We are neither idiots or a pushover. A lot of money has been invested into the resort over the last decade. It will always be popular with people from the Midlands and the North of England. It's only a small resort but still has everything for a great family holiday! WHICH Magazine are talking 'out of the end of their pier. Yes I do have that shot of the Clock Tower. Go Skeggy!! 👍 🦭 🐟🐬 🌞
Skegness is amazing I love it, and it's so close to fantasy island in Ingoldmells, then you have the open top buses which are awesome and blare out music, there's a great atmosphere in skegness, my only downside was the size of the pier, but having said that there so many amusements and things to do around it that really its a non issue,, the which survey is a load of nonsense
Not sure if you've been Wendy, the smell in the towns is just weed. It's everywhere. We went and all we could taste and smell was people smoking the nasty stuff. Never experienced that at a seaside town.
On quiet days it’s great and the locals seem friendly. But when it’s really busy it’s awful, it’s the tourist that ruin it. It does seem to attract very rough people who don’t seem to care or respect the town….or anyone tbh. We went last weekend and the amount of rubbish, shouting and drunks ruined the day for us.
I have visited Skegness lots of times , it’s definitely NOT the worst seaside town I don’t know where they get the ratings from ! Every time I visit they have done improvements, and it’s very clean and tidy. A lot of money has been spent on improving the attractions . It’s great for family’s and couples, there is something for everyone, it’s well worth a visit .
Just had a week here, definitely one of the best seaside towns I’ve been too! So much to see, so much to do and it’s well kept and well priced! Loved it
I was there 3 weeks ago, it was very very clean, people were friendly - no dog poo anywhere , fish n chips £7 (it's £11 up our way) cheap parking. Last time I was there in 1982, dad passed with Covid last September so we took mam back for some memories, we stayed at Igomels. I even got to go shooting at the local Gun club (thanks Margaret) lovely dogs and members made me very welcome (shot a 223).
I think a lot of it is down to the survey being inherently flawed. There are LOADS of resort towns in the UK, but most of the British public haven't been to the worst of the worst. It's more that Skegness is the worst of the most known resort towns, rather than the actual worst.
I'm enjoying your 'Worst Rated' videos. You're so generous to them, forgive them for being old, remark how grand they must have been in their day. You give them a very fair critique and I'm sure you will, eventually find what is overwhelmingly 'the worst' but so far, most of the things are just 'tired'.
Same reason I've been binging this guy. He doesn't play stuff up for dramatic purposes, which makes things all the more affecting when he does encounter something grody.
I wish our seaside towns in NZ had some type of amusements and attractions like this! Just sitting/swimming on the beach can get boring here. That boat ride looked fun!
What the heck? Your video makes this place look many times better than any of the beach towns around here. So much to do! I would go if it wasn't on the other side of the country
Definitely not the worst seaside town by miles. Margate is far far more deprived. Skegness is due a lot of upgrades in the near future. It has suffered from years of neglect and lack of investment granted. I look forward to see the place again in the coming years. Hopefully the planned pier extension goes ahead soon.
The castle ruins went up as back in the days amusement parks were considered "vulgar"..and it part hid the old fair there... which had a trad figure 8 etc..various operators and latterly Butlins had an amusement park there from the early 1900s..it closed in 1969 to be replaced by a massive astroglide and moon hopper ride..again various operators had it until 3 years ago when it failed and that part is up for sale for housing. In 1969 myself and my mum rode the 16 seater eli wheel there and the operator went over the road to the cafe and shouted.."call when you want to come off"..pre hswa 1974 of course..lol..
“It can’t be 10 degrees this time of year” Dude - it’s the North Sea. Consider yourself lucky you could swim in it and didn’t have to bring your ice skates 😂
Love Skegness and shocked to see it’s been ranked the worse! 🤯 After seeing this video I think it’s even better then what I originally thought and will be booking a little family break next summer there :)
I was there 2 weeks ago , great weekend , we loved it , loads to do and see and fanny island all new rides and huge market , great place to go , Skeg the worst place ? No chance !
When I was 19 I worked a summer on Skegness waterway driving the boats. However it was before them intercoms were installed. It's a wonder I didn't get sacked as every Sunday I would captain an eletric boat that was capable of carrying 20 passengers whilst still drunk from the night before. And the amout of free rides I used to give to my mates was ridiculous. lol. Good times.
I live in hull, we get to goto skegness regular and tbh the place depresses me! It coukd be so much better the whole place fleeces you everyminute your there. Have you ever been to Robin hoods Bay? Or Saltburn on sea? Robin hoods Bay isn't a resort but has so much more to offer than anywhere else on the east coast, it has no amusements or games of any kind, just a place that hasn't changed since the 30s. Saltburn on sea is further north and hard for us to get to but the victoriana lost on other places has been preserved there and adds so much intrigue and fascination to the place. It's not a huge tourist hotspot but tbh that's the attraction of the place, it doesn't try to be anything it's not, skeggers on the other hand has completely lost its way imo.
I think Skeggy has that title because people go to Ingoldmells and think that's it. Have you done one there yet? Proper chavsville and more caravans than can ever be good.
The problem with Skegness is it’s clientele. They leave rubbish all over the beach like dirty nappies, beer bottles and cans and the council never clean it. The whole ethos of the town is beer, beer and chips. It’s actually a great town with fantastic locals and local businesses such as Lings and the little donut stand opposite Lings run by the same family for years. Lings is a great family arcade that genuinely care about their customers and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The Mellors family are investing a fortune into Skegness and Ingoldmells, but even Fantasy Island needs an upgrade. Again less alcohol and more family orientated venues instead of pubs and fake goods on what has the potential to be a great market. Skegness is only what the people who frequent it make it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the town. And just out of interest, since when has “shire” been pronounced “sheer”? I must be missing something because everyone seems to be doing that recently! 😂😂
I loved going to Skegness we’ve not been for over 10 years though now the kids are grown up it doesn’t look like it’s changed much to be honest. My husband and I will return there again one weekend for a mini break 👍🏻🥰
Skegness was great when I last went in 2019. It was clean, with lots to see and do, and gave us a lovely few days by the coast. We didn't stay in Skegness though as I was skint at the time and opted for camping just a few miles inland. I remember the pleasure beach was good fun and my boys loved all the amusements and play areas. We also went into Butlins for the day and enjoyed the water park. I'd give Skegness a good 9/10, as we left I described at as like Great Yarmouth, but more compact, more to do, and cleaner.
Hi Tim, i am biased as i live and work in Skegness, but is one of the best seaside resorts in the country with lots of attractions for the whole family. Thanks for the great close up of the Savoy Hotel, where i work. Next time you are in Skegness feel free to come and say hello and i will kindly give you a tour.
I've been to Blackpool hundreds of times but never to Skegness.......but by the looks of this video, Skegness looks ALOT cleaner than Blackpool and less chavvy by a mile!
I see they're copying of Blackpools names.such as Pleasure Beach.and Tower etc.Was in Skegness a few years ago and there was nothing there.so they're doing it all up now.Looks different and you can see the way it's trying to look lively in season.Mind you we went out of season and it was dead.
You'd find you're correct of you went to both, Skeg and Ingoldmells are really the same resort about 1 mile apart and as UK seaside goes its lively and a good old fashioned day out for working class people. Skeg has also had loads of investment with new buildings and attractions so not really a run down resort like many others in the uk
I live close to Paignton and I have to say Skegness looks far far better kept, nicer beach, less traffic, better amenities, fewer troublemakers. I imagine Paignton is on the list, but cant see how it could rate higher than Skeggy. Every time I reluctantly have to go into Paignton I'm amazed anyone would want to holiday there.
I went to Skeggy back in 1998 while visiting friends in Notts. It was baffling to this Canadian... a combinaison of the tackiest place I've ever been to and an amazing and fascinating place. We have nothing like it here. From what I see in your video, it does look a lot classier now.
Brilliant video Tim 👌🏼 When I was a kid (I’m 33 now) we used to do alternate trips each summer to Blackpool one year and Skegness the next because we didn’t have a lot of money. I have to say, both have improved loads! I took my own kids to Skegness recently and we loved it. It was very clean, loads of tired looking places had either been renovated or replaced with new structures and it all generally looked a lot nicer on the eye and less tacky. My opinion is that if you’re not working class or you grew up with money, you won’t ‘get’ or appreciate Skegness.
I’ve been going to Skegness since I was a toddler and I’m 36 now. For me it’s not so much the place, it’s a certain demographic of people it attracts. I’ve been recently and it’s a hell of a lot better than it used to be as it became quite run down at one point, you can tell they’ve spent a lot trying to improve it. The beach is a lot better as well, it used to be completely full of litter. Not sure I’d holiday there anymore but it’s great for a couple of days get away
I don’t see why it’s ranked worse! Looks decent to me,.My grandparents used to take me to Skegness in the caravan in the late 70’s early 80’s I used to love the penny arcade on the pier🤣
I think it must be the negative stereotypes it has (not sure who created them though). For example, I’ve never been to Skegness but still have negative connotations of it - it looks pretty nice though tbf
@@TY-sx3jb my brothers took me there in a Ford Cortina decades ago for a day out, was miles from where we lived cant believe he went that far, I remember him blasting KC and the Sunshine band “give it up” with windows down as we drove along the front past all the holidaymakers. Happy memories.
Just subscribed and the wife said your really easy to watch and likeable , so we’re watch all your videos now very enjoyable, I love going abroad aswell but British holidays are magnificent 👍
It cost you £14 to go on the little boat ride? That is extortionate. I love Skegness too but I prefer the actual beech to the over priced attractions. Definestly deserves 3 stars in affordability.
Watching this as was there last week,Wednesday and Saturday and am gob smacked - you actually walked right behind me at the log flume on the seafront.I was standing watching, you were correct a chap was walking along the track and down the final drop . A log had got stuck at the bottom of the final climb on the conveyor between the water trough and the pull up.He was walking the track and testing i.e. kicking all the sensors to see if it would free the log. Unfortunately for the riders it didn't and after a few moments discussion a step ladder was brought and the lady and gent had to climb over the railings and back into the station. Turned into the last ride of the day as you noticed when you went into the Pleasure Beach. Skegness the worst ? rubbish I love it :-)
Me and the family went there in May! We went to the seal sanctuary, which was actually really good. We also stopped and hoped that the boat would pick us up near there. I pressed that button and we waited for 15 minutes and then gave up lol. I was also surprised they still have Donkey Rides on the beach, I used to visit Skeggy when I was a young boy and always remember that! Thanks for this video, it was brilliant and I wouldn't say skeggy is the worse at all!
We went to Skegness last year on a whim as Blackpool was so expensive. I must add we usually holiday abroad but I was pleasantly surprised with our week at Skegness my kids loved it one pre-teen and one teenager. We are from Scotland and found the people so lovely and the place was clean. I've only got positive things to say about it, infarct I've been advising people to visit We are actually going back this year as we loved it so much. I can't believe it was voted the worst seaside resort.
Been going since I was 7 with my grandparents and love it, many happy memories and now those are being made with my children. They love going every year and particularly love fantasy island. Went in May and going again in 3 weeks. Now I havnt looked at the rankings but I assume southern bias takes hold for the majority of it
i honestly think this place looks great! i'd love to go down one of these years, but i can't understand the rating. there's lots to do and it all looks pretty good! is it that all the seaside resorts are absloutely incredible? who knows, guess that's for any of us to go down and find out.
I love Skeggy. It has a lot to offer and is a good day out or holiday. The town centre could do with a little modernisation as last time I was there, lots of shops were boarded up. But the place isn’t overly bad. Beach is clean. the only thing that bugs me is having to pay for the toilets that the council run. It should be free, especially the amount of money tourists bring in. But it’s a decent place with lots to do and it’s not as expensive as other tourist attractions.
@@benjamindunnill3496 I always totally agree with anyone who says that, IMHO it's an overpriced filthy shit hole full of chavs, with dirty eateries, sticky carpets, and a pleasure beach run on greed where they charge you to enter just to 'look' at the rides, but for some reason Tim loves it - takes all sorts i suppose, and although he's very good at reviews, he can't always get it right :)
Skeggy's got a great beach (admittedly, if you drive 20 minutes up the coast, Huttoft Bank, Mogg's Eye or Walla Bank all have better beaches, simply because they're less full), decent chippies, and the seal sanctuary. I feel lucky to live just down the road from it in Boston.
It’s got plenty of tacky charm, like many traditional seaside towns. Has a lovely natural coastline and plenty of family fun. I don’t live in Skegness but it’s great if you want a value-for-money holiday with lovely locals and a dry climate. My holiday guests love it! Not everyone can afford to holiday in Cornwall and Which’s survey is surely very biased (based on affluent subscriber profile)🤩
I went to Cornwall with the kids, they charged me 1200 for the house and the bill for leccy used and the bill for towels, all in for 2adults and 2 kids with food 4000
Hmm even though I can usually trust and go by Which reviews I would still go there for the day at least if I was in the area...I certainly cannot afford to splash out on Cornwall..th
Jolly Fishman. So good you showed it twice 😂 Seriously that looks lovely. Is Weston-S-Mare included in the rankings? Pales in comparison to this place from what I can see
We had part of our honeymoon in Skegness last year... I'd never been before, but the wife knew it well and wanted to show me the place... It was Lovely! Really clean, lovely people, and really nice place to go, with stuff to do too. I'm surprised this is voted the worst seaside town! Well worth a visit 😁😎
As someone who live down here I can tell you a few serious problems with Skegness. 1 the paths and road between Ingoldmells and Skegness in desperate need of repair. 2 the buses are most the time running late 3 Thick sand in the promenade make it hard for mobility scooters to get trough. But this week cleared it. But for how long 4 the doctors down here are very poor. Really hard to make an appointment over the phone and long waiting time to see a doctor
paths and roads always need repairs its the salt ,busses never run on time ,sorry know about beach and you try and get a dr or dentist appointment anywhere in this country at moment
Hi there Tim, love your videos it feels like watching "Wish you were here" programme in the 80s. Your the new Judith Chambers lol. When are you coming down to Tenby and Saundersfoot down here in Wales ! Lots of medival attractions and family activities around the area.
We've got a seasonal pitch at Skegness fields this year. We're just discovering different places here. We have a dog and have found a lovely walk on north side near seal sanctuary. Only downside people throw rubbish into the waterway round there. Loads to do in skegness if you look for it.
Been their many times and it’s great! Lots to do, clean and tidy, very safe place with coastguard, life guards, police, firefighters and hospitals/ambulance server their/so close to their! How did it get its name as the worst resort/place ether? I’m not sure, it’s like a second home to me as I go their so much. Take my word for it, I’ve been to mist worsted places and actually I highly recommend Skegness as a place to go on holiday at!
I thought that paying £14 for the boat ride was a bit steep! 😕 I was originally supposed to go to Skeggy summer 2020 but COVID (🤬China!!) ruined that that plan & had to cancel. It looks pretty clean from the video.
Awww I love Skegness. I went quite a few times growing up as I'm from the Midlands. Last went in 2018 and we had a great time. The beach is lovely, loved the seal sanctuary and the funfair at the front too.
Been here for a family holiday two years running and have booked to return next year. My boys loved the vintage fair especially the dodgems. If it’s a quiet day, they get a longer turn than they do during busy periods. The boating lake is fabulous. We always go on the pedaloes and the Fairy Dell splash pool is brilliant at the other side of the boating late (and free!) My older boys enjoyed climbing the high wire Altitude 44 and wouldn’t stop talking about it for the rest of the holiday. The instructors are very friendly and chatty and are fantastic with nervous climbers and children. The Seal Sanctuary is definitely worth a visit. You get to see recovering seals in the seal hospital and the well seals in the rehabilitation pools ready to be released back into the wild. There are also creepy crawlies and reptiles, penguins, a butterfly house and a petting zoo with goats, sheep and alpacas that you can feed. There are plenty of picnic tables so you can bring your own food if you’re on a budget. In terms of food, I recommend Trawlers Catch which is the pirate themed fish and chip shop in the video. There is also a shack near the pleasure beach that sells chocolate kebabs! We can’t wait to return! In fact we’re planning on visiting in winter when we come to see the baby seals at Donna Nook.
Me and my girlfriend used to go places like this, go round pubs and amusements all day when we were much younger but not our thing these days. We like the comfort of home but if we wanted a little break somewhere it wouldn't be Skegness. I think we prefer locations with a nicer coastline, ie not such a flat town as it seems here when you compare it to others on the east coast such as Filey, Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington, the hills and cliffs make the beaches and overall setting far more appealing. I bet this looks a very bleak place in winter.
Thank you. Thats what I said. This place is depressing as hell. Its bleak seaside town drowning in tacky gloss to just try and fake it enough to get some tourists through the door. I want to know what the drug and alcohol addictions statistics are like. What the child mental health services deal with. Give me a real picture Skegness and not a tourists 2dimensional basic take.
@@idiotbuster8662 haha cheers for the reply, made me laugh that. The reality is probably nearer your view. It will be like Blackpool, loads of problems. Grim seaside resorts that behind the fancy exterior lies a dark and dangerous side.
I live in the northeast and loved going to "Skeggy" on a working holiday to Derbyshire miners holiday camp. In the early 1980's we took our pensioners from the day centre and I have loads of fond memories of both the camp and town.
I honestly can't understand why it's been given the worst rating seaside town for the last 3 years! That's just crazy, definitely not the worst I've been to. It's very clean, not run down, always well kept, lots of flowers and little gardens all over, some nice parks, free parking, the beach is clean and safe. Shops and entertainment is very good and there is a good choice of cafe and restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. I think it's quite good value compared to other places, eg I've always been able to find free parking all day, how many tourist places can boast that? I'd like to know why it's been rated the worst? To be honest, rating it the worst is probably a good thing because if they rated it the best it would be even busier and I'd have to join long queues for everything! Hotels I can recommend are The County, on the front just past The Savoy, very distinctive building, good sized very clean rooms, manager is very welcoming, helpful and very friendly, breakfast very filling and delicious. Parking OK. The No. 8 hotel, a bit more modern rooms, very central near clock tower, no breakfast, very clean. Hungry wolf eating place right next door. Parking was not great! The Royal Hotel which is a right turn when you get to the clock tower, right to the end. Very nice rooms, very clean, our room was a little small but functional, breakfast was exceptional, help yourself buffet type arrangement, everything you could want is there to eat. Entertainment was very good when we were there, an elvis type rock n roll singer. The hotel boasts some military RAF history there are lots of photos and memorabilia dotted about the place. Not cheap but well worth the cost, ample parking Agreed about those bathing huts, what a waste of an opportunity, they should be restored to their former glory! I think that castle thing used to be like a themed activities place, I seem to remember football nets, balls, ropes, climbing things, crazy golf and other games etc
Great video, I visited Skegness in the early 2000's. I didn't find it too bad. I think seaside resorts in the UK in general get a lot of criticism. For example I don't live too far from Blackpool which is a busy resort but a lot of resorts are quite run down because people would rather go abroad because its often cheaper than staycations. Take Blackpool for example go a couple of streets away from the tourist part and its a different place abject poverty.
I loved Skeggy as a kid, I was honestly expecting the worst when I watched this but this looks nowhere near as bad I thought, honestly I wouldn’t mind visiting again. Worst seaside resort in Britain? Really? It seems pretty harsh to me.
Only been here once about 12-13 years ago with my x-gf family. The holiday started out crap only because of my x haha but it got better. Her dad took me fishing on the beach with ocean rods or something of the like. Squid bait we picked up from a tackle shop. I was crap but I loved it, the sand was warm, few beers away from the dog walkers ect and yes literally just a few. Never went on any rides but I did win my first bet on one of those roulette wheel machines. Won £100 and the best part about the whole thing, I didn't have to put up with a kaniving cheating cow! Great video! Makes me wanna go back and fish again!
God knows why Skegness gets bad ratings - I’ve never had any problems with it, and there’s definitely worse places lol. Has everything you need for kids, families and adults for a day trip or few days holiday. I live in Nottinghamshire so practically everyone knows of Skegness, I think it’s shit on a lot especially by richer people because literally everyone goes to Skeg in that region. They are happy to shit on it online but have a right ole time when they go there is what I’ve noticed
I've been visiting for 60 years & it's definitely gone downhill bigtime. Everything has gone on the South Parade - model village, Kiddies corner, crazy golf, Pitch & putt, bowling greens. The gardens used to be immaculate with an army of council workers maintaining them, but all now gone to waste. Just seems to be all bars & amusement arcades, now.
Hi tim i was at skeggy 2 weeks ago im sorry but i don't understand why or who has rated the place bad its great to visit we went to the embassy to see a show and it was really good regarding the beach i cant comment as i don't visit it but the service the people are really accommodating undeserved rating in my opinion
Blackpool worse than skegness for 4 in the pleasure beach 185 pound robbin skegness we as a family love skegness been going a far few years now who do these voting are they blind
I love Skegness, my family never had much money when me and my younger brother was kids so we spent most of our holidays at Skegness. I can say I love Skegness with a passion. Would happily take my kids one and me and my partner visit a few times a year.
How can it be better then cleethorpes, my local beach where we don't go. Lost its blue flag this year and we get times now when it's unsafe to go in the sea due to pollution. Run down shops and imported sand. Once off sand it's mud with sinking sand areas. We go to Mablethorpe instead for a beach day
Hi Tim I've been coming with my son and parents to skegness and ingoldmells for our holidays and day trips for years and we love it. Skegness has everything you could possibly want to do on a holiday from Great entertainment, great beach great places to eat too. There's loads to do. I'm counting the weeks down until I'm on the Lincolnshire coast in chapel st leonards for a week and surrounding places. Skegness forever. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for the walkabouts Tim, it was an awesome video.
100% doesn’t deserve the title. Yes it’s a bit run down in places but it’s a great place to go. I love going to Skegness one of my favourite seaside towns to visit. So much to do. Do wish they’d do something with those beach huts maybe renovate them and rent them out during the day like they do in Mablethrope.
Those chalets looked good til a few years ago. A friend of mine used one every year when the bowls tournament was on. It changed hands & everything was ok Think it was a couple of years later the owner who was there every day announced that they were closing at the end of the season. Dont think they were sold on so unfortunately left to rot. Were very nice inside as well Thanks for video
The seal sanctuary is always busy every time we've been, it's just ashame it's quite expensive but they do great work for the seals, the aquarium the other end is also one of our favourites and we come there even in the winter time, but I've been coming to skeg ever since I was born my grandparents had a caravan at Chapel St Leonards the old Robin Hood camp site and we went all the time starting the Easter season threw to they closed up for winter amd we loved it many happy memories that's why we keep on going there and no where else is as good in my humble opinion, love the video thanks 👍👍
I was there with my husband and we spotted you but didn’t want to interrupt your filming :) I don’t think it’s the worst seaside town by any means. We really enjoyed our time there, was just a bit sad that the vintage funfair only opens on weekends but you can understand why. We went to the seal sanctuary and it’s small but really lovely. They have a tropical bird house and butterfly house which are so calming to take a seat and relax in. Will definitely be going back!
We live in Peterborough and it's only 1hr 20 mins drive. It's brilliant for days out. My daughter loves it. Donkey rides on the beach, decent fish and chips, fair priced amusements. My daughter loves the go-karting as do I. Nice town to explore too. I don't believe the reviews. Thanks for the tip about boat number 1. Also there was a big wheel last time we went before covid, it was further south than you at another amusement park, they got dodgems and a dragon roller coaster and loads of stall where you probably won't win a teddy bear. We're going back next weekend.
I’ve never been there, but it doesn’t look that bad to me!! If you want a truly horrendous British seaside resort, that would be Blackpool. God, that place is depressing.
Who ever voted for this obviously never visit Blackpool! Skegness is brilliant for the kids tons to do fair and rides, arcades ,nice and clean plenty of shops albeit many of them tourist grockle shops no different from any other seaside towns! fish and chip Alley. We grew up going there. Happy days.
We don’t have the same traditions at the sea side in America. Popping over to the UK for two weeks next month. I’m really so tempted to visit a seaside town while there. I find this all so charming
Don't listen to Lawrence, Johnny! Torbay has pretensions, while Skeggie will just show you what it is, warts and all. Also the Fens make for beautiful countryside, whether you drive or go by train: if you're used to some place like Kansas you'll feel right at home, and then all of a sudden the sea will jump up out of nowhere.
Was here last week with my family , had a great time, plenty to do for all ages. Really enjoyed the upside down house. Definitely doesn't deserve the title of worse rated and will be going back next year 😊
@@WalkWithMeTim Nonono, I adore Blackpool, but it’s definitely rougher around the edges is what I mean. It’s what you make it. A nice walk on north pier, a cup of tea and cake at Tea Amantes, walk up the promenade and read the comedy carpet, then walk up to Notariani’s Ices for ice cream, long walk back, West Coast Rock Cafe for dinner, and Funny Girls for an evening out. Love it.

Skegness is not the worse seaside resort. It how people listen to hearsay, not the pop group.

Thanks Donna, yes I agree
What pandemic???

@@basednappa 1984? Pandemic of false positives??
Whilst I mostly agree with your comments, may I add that Guest houses and b&bs have suffered due to the extortionate pricing of rooms for a small family.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Skegness whatsoever, it's clean and tidy, reasonably priced and loads to do. How this place has been voted worst is beyond me, have they not been to Dover?!
where you looking luv
@@kacey539 Go to some proper dumps and then you'll realise Skeg isn't bad at all!
I agree looks absolutely fine to me a proper seaside town the beach looks great too 👌
Just been to Skegness. Loved it. So much in such a small area. Lots of shops. Lots of arcades. Pretty much arsehole free. Really enjoyed our stay. Will be back, already booked again.
@@Matt19matt19 same we've been taking the kids since covid and we have returned every Yr infact 5 times in 2 and half yrs the kids love it and we are the abroad type of holiday people
If skeg was a shithole we wouldn't of returned a second time never mind 5 and already trying to get back up there before kids go to school
We was lucky to be there last week when it was heatwave, brilliant time!
I live in skeg and it makes me so mad when I hear its the worst seaside place in the country, its improved a lot and I think more improvements will be made, only downside the shops are not the greatest, the main beals shop was a great shop sold everything in that place, now its what Id call a tacky plaza, but the place gets so many visitors day trippers, weekenders, holiday weeks or fortnight's, come see the place for yourselves before judging, I think these people that just hear the name Skegness and that's it, let's class it the worst, come and see and judge for yourself.
good points
It's a beautiful clean thriving seaside town and I love it
Just keeping out the holiday goers and letting the illegals. All by design
They must remember Skegness from the viz
I think that's a very unfair rating for Skegness, it always seems pretty clean, easy to get around, the seasider bus service is great and all the tourist areas are all very nice.
agree
But full of pork dodgers
Been plenty of times over the years and honestly don’t think it’s that bad.
Did start to get a bit run down but nice to see it being rejuvenated.
Think it’s biggest problem is some of the individuals it attracts
It doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I've heard it described. I've definitely been to grottier seaside towns. Maybe some people find all of the amusements tacky? They look mostly well-maintained and charming enough to me. Maybe I'll visit some day!
Blackpool 😖🤮
Can’t beat the great British sea side especially the amusement
It looks fine to me. I mean I’d rather go abroad but it’s not exactly the worse place in the world
After avoiding Skeggy for about 20 years, I went back last year and have been 2 more times since. Its definitely changed. Stayed at the Quorn Hotel across from the Premier Inn, and it was brilliant. Had so much fun there, my niece loved it. Will go back again in a heartbeat.
Good for you. Brilliant!! 👍
i stay there too, infact im going there two more times this month alone haha. i love that hotel
Same we are the type of family that holidays abroad but since covid we've been skegness 5 times and each time the kids love it more! What you want for a British holiday it's all there at skeg although we will be trying Cornwall next year
Haven't tried many holiday parks at skeg we've been to southview 5 times and find it absolutely perfect and that's not even on the main pleasure Beach or fantasy side its a 2 min drive probably 15 min walk with kids to pleasure Beach and its absolutely brilliant southview itself has that much stuff to do between the park itself, pleasure Beach and fantasy island there's more than enough stuff to do in a week I have no idea who would rate skeg the worst
Skegness is not as bad a bream sands area by the sea Skegness scrubs up well it has a beautiful beach there by the sea.
@@__Ess I loved Skegness when me and my family visited after COVID and lock down. Great beach reminds me of Florida a bit with the Parm trees.
Skegness doesn't deserve that rating at all! It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is cheerful, and does what it's supposed to do very well!😀
Totally agree
It's a great cup of tea is skegness we love it Blackpool worse than skegness £185 to go in to the pleasure beach for 4 of use we was just with our kids skegness to me we love the place more for kids to do than Blackpool
2760ade, similar to what I was going to say. It’s not somewhere I’d want to go, simply because I prefer more quiet beaches rather than seaside towns with attractions, but you can just see from watching this video that there are plenty of people out having themselves a pleasant time.
The name doesn't help.
Who would want to go to skeg-ness.
Sounds like a disease.
yep agree
Back in the day those "shuttered huts"' were on the edge of the beach looking out to the sea.
There was no sea wall to get in the way of the sea view.
Another great video Tim! I honestly think Skegness has been slowly improving every year for a while now. And I wouldn’t say it’s the worse in the UK at all.
Absolutely!
One of the best seaside resorts in the country!
Has one of the best climates.
It doesn't rain ever day as it does at a certain large resort on the
English West Coast.
Neither does the sea disappear to somewhere in Ireland when the tide goes out.
It isn't boring with steep pebble beaches like many resorts on the South Coast.
We are all supposed to be

We are neither idiots or a pushover.
A lot of money has been invested into the resort over the last decade.
It will always be popular with people from the Midlands and the
North of England.
It's only a small resort but still has everything for a great family holiday!
WHICH Magazine are talking 'out of the end of their pier.
Yes I do have that shot of the
Clock Tower.
Go Skeggy!!
Definitely doesn't deserve the title of worse rated. I thought it looked clean and well kept and quite a nice place to visit (and I'm fussy !!)
agree Wendy
I personally disagree . There's a few ok parts but some parts are horrible and run down .
I'll take your word for that. Maybe Tim showed the better bits.!
@@scottigertiger6430 I get that but you've got to remember we live in the UK, there's rough and ready bits in every town
Bane have been to Dover, Portsmouth etc when people from France etc surprised they don't get back on the ferry when they see these I would and am brit
He doesn't play stuff up for dramatic purposes, which makes things all the more affecting when he does encounter something grody.
thanks Im not a negative person so will always try to put a spin on it where I can
thanks , means a lot :-)
I wish our seaside towns in NZ had some type of amusements and attractions like this! Just sitting/swimming on the beach can get boring here. That boat ride looked fun!
What the heck? Your video makes this place look many times better than any of the beach towns around here. So much to do! I would go if it wasn't on the other side of the country
:-)
Definitely not the worst seaside town by miles. Margate is far far more deprived.
Skegness is due a lot of upgrades in the near future. It has suffered from years of neglect and lack of investment granted.
I look forward to see the place again in the coming years.
Hopefully the planned pier extension goes ahead soon.
Hope the upgrades are glam and not the usual small windowed buildings that look like prisons.
Thank you! I was wondering about that and searching online yielded nothing.
“It can’t be 10 degrees this time of year”
Dude - it’s the North Sea. Consider yourself lucky you could swim in it and didn’t have to bring your ice skates 😂
Love Skegness and shocked to see it’s been ranked the worse! 🤯
After seeing this video I think it’s even better then what I originally thought and will be booking a little family break next summer there :)

When I was 19 I worked a summer on Skegness waterway driving the boats. However it was before them intercoms were installed. It's a wonder I didn't get sacked as every Sunday I would captain an eletric boat that was capable of carrying 20 passengers whilst still drunk from the night before. And the amout of free rides I used to give to my mates was ridiculous. lol.

Camber sands is a lonely beech but skeggness is a scruffy one make ure choice
I agree with this , ingoldmells is a mess
I pronounce it like shure,eg. worcestershire = woustershur or wu·stuh·shuh
Depends if you're from the north, south or middle of England on how to pronounce it
I loved going to Skegness we’ve not been for over 10 years though now the kids are grown up it doesn’t look like it’s changed much to be honest.

Next time you are in Skegness feel free to come and say hello and i will kindly give you a tour.
oh thanks Neil!
100% :)
I'm from blackpool and I agree lol 😆
The place often get accused of being chav central... Seems not true.
Going to Skegness for a day trip in a couple weeks, watched this to see what I should expect, and honestly it doesn't look too bad!
Yep.. its great .. have fun
My opinion is that if you’re not working class or you grew up with money, you won’t ‘get’ or appreciate Skegness.
thanks, Chris for watching
I’ve been going to Skegness since I was a toddler and I’m 36 now. For me it’s not so much the place, it’s a certain demographic of people it attracts. I’ve been recently and it’s a hell of a lot better than it used to be as it became quite run down at one point, you can tell they’ve spent a lot trying to improve it. The beach is a lot better as well, it used to be completely full of litter. Not sure I’d holiday there anymore but it’s great for a couple of days get away
agree I love Skegness!
that photo idea with the clock tower down that path is such a good idea especially at night when they have the purple lighting on it's gorgeous

Skegness the worst ? rubbish I love it :-)
agree!
The Arnold Palmer mini golf course at Skegness remains my most favourite course in the UK. So many childhood memories there, and still remains great.

Appreciate that Michael 😎
I love Skeggy. It has a lot to offer and is a good day out or holiday.
The town centre could do with a little modernisation as last time I was there, lots of shops were boarded up.
But the place isn’t overly bad. Beach is clean.
the only thing that bugs me is having to pay for the toilets that the council run.
It should be free, especially the amount of money tourists bring in.
But it’s a decent place with lots to do and it’s not as expensive as other tourist attractions.
good points

:-)
It’s got plenty of tacky charm, like many traditional seaside towns. Has a lovely natural coastline and plenty of family fun.
I don’t live in Skegness but it’s great if you want a value-for-money holiday with lovely locals and a dry climate. My holiday guests love it!
Not everyone can afford to holiday in Cornwall and Which’s survey is surely very biased (based on affluent subscriber profile)🤩
tacky charm love that!
I went to Cornwall with the kids, they charged me 1200 for the house and the bill for leccy used and the bill for towels, all in for 2adults and 2 kids with food 4000
@@qualitygoldfish2198 😲
Hmm even though I can usually trust and go by Which reviews I would still go there for the day at least if I was in the area...I certainly cannot afford to splash out on Cornwall..th
Jolly Fishman. So good you showed it twice 😂
Seriously that looks lovely. Is Weston-S-Mare included in the rankings? Pales in comparison to this place from what I can see
tim: ‘there’s no big wheel’
*two minutes later*
tim: *walks metres away from the big wheel*
Excellent amd pleasant presentations. No glam, just nice and straightforward.
Thank you kindly!
We had part of our honeymoon in Skegness last year... I'd never been before, but the wife knew it well and wanted to show me the place... It was Lovely! Really clean, lovely people, and really nice place to go, with stuff to do too. I'm surprised this is voted the worst seaside town!
Well worth a visit 😁😎
honeymoon in skeg, you poor soul, splash a bit of cash on ur missus
@@1woffIt was only part of the Honeymoon, Not the whole thing 👍
agree Adam
As someone who live down here I can tell you a few serious problems with Skegness.
1 the paths and road between Ingoldmells and Skegness in desperate need of repair.
2 the buses are most the time running late
3 Thick sand in the promenade make it hard for mobility scooters to get trough. But this week cleared it. But for how long
4 the doctors down here are very poor.
Wow, thanks lol I say to people cross the holiday programme on abc and wish u was here!
We've got a seasonal pitch at Skegness fields this year. We're just discovering different places here. We have a dog and have found a lovely walk on north side near seal sanctuary. Only downside people throw rubbish into the waterway round there. Loads to do in skegness if you look for it.
Stayed in savoy, the quorn, coasters and the premier inn 😂😂we prefer ingoldmells but no chance is skeggy the worst in the country!!
LOL
Been their many times and it’s great! Lots to do, clean and tidy, very safe place with coastguard, life guards, police, firefighters and hospitals/ambulance server their/so close to their!
How did it get its name as the worst resort/place ether? I’m not sure, it’s like a second home to me as I go their so much. Take my word for it, I’ve been to mist worsted places and actually I highly recommend Skegness as a place to go on holiday at!
I thought that paying £14 for the boat ride was a bit steep! 😕
I was originally supposed to go to Skeggy summer 2020 but COVID (🤬China!!) ruined that that plan & had to cancel.
It looks pretty clean from the video.
I thought that but its like everything else, it all costs money these days. Nothing is cheap in the UK.
Awww I love Skegness. I went quite a few times growing up as I'm from the Midlands. Last went in 2018 and we had a great time. The beach is lovely, loved the seal sanctuary and the funfair at the front too.
Congratulations Tim for all your hard work 90 k subscribers well well done onwards and upwards👍👍
Thanks John
Been here for a family holiday two years running and have booked to return next year. My boys loved the vintage fair especially the dodgems. If it’s a quiet day, they get a longer turn than they do during busy periods. The boating lake is fabulous. We always go on the pedaloes and the Fairy Dell splash pool is brilliant at the other side of the boating late (and free!)
My older boys enjoyed climbing the high wire Altitude 44 and wouldn’t stop talking about it for the rest of the holiday.
Not cheap but well worth the cost, ample parking
Agreed about those bathing huts, what a waste of an opportunity, they should be restored to their former glory!
I think that castle thing used to be like a themed activities place, I seem to remember football nets, balls, ropes, climbing things, crazy golf and other games etc
very good points
Bangor, New Brighton, Southport, Newquay, Cleethorpes, Cromer, Great Yarmouth, Clacton, Blackpool....
Hi Tim we need a video round the back streets of Great Yarmouth, after my visit last year the first in twenty years its a little bit upsetting.
I did one recently
Totally agree
Blackpool worse than skegness for 4 in the pleasure beach 185 pound robbin skegness we as a family love skegness been going a far few years now who do these voting are they blind
@@davidwilson7579 absolutely agree
I love Skegness, my family never had much money when me and my younger brother was kids so we spent most of our holidays at Skegness. I can say I love Skegness with a passion. Would happily take my kids one and me and my partner visit a few times a year.
How can it be better then cleethorpes, my local beach where we don't go. Lost its blue flag this year and we get times now when it's unsafe to go in the sea due to pollution. Run down shops and imported sand. Once off sand it's mud with sinking sand areas.
We go to Mablethorpe instead for a beach day
have u seen my video of Mablethorpe
Cleethorpes has had record tourism in recent years, so can't be that bad.
Hi Tim
I've been coming with my son and parents to skegness and ingoldmells for our holidays and day trips for years and we love it.
Skegness has everything you could possibly want to do on a holiday from Great entertainment, great beach great places to eat too. There's loads to do.
I'm counting the weeks down until I'm on the Lincolnshire coast in chapel st leonards for a week and surrounding places.
Skegness forever. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the walkabouts Tim, it was an awesome video.
yay thanks Janine, I love Skeg!
They were at one stage, but like everything these days were trashed by vandals
Those chalets looked good til a few years ago. A friend of mine used one every year when the bowls tournament was on. It changed hands & everything was ok Think it was a couple of years later the owner who was there every day announced that they were closing at the end of the season. Dont think they were sold on so unfortunately left to rot. Were very nice inside as well Thanks for video
If it doesn't deserve the title where does?
You can't determine claim its not the worst just because its not as bad as you thought.
agree
The seal sanctuary is always busy every time we've been, it's just ashame it's quite expensive but they do great work for the seals, the aquarium the other end is also one of our favourites and we come there even in the winter time, but I've been coming to skeg ever since I was born my grandparents had a caravan at Chapel St Leonards the old Robin Hood camp site and we went all the time starting the Easter season threw to they closed up for winter amd we loved it many happy memories that's why we keep on going there and no where else is as good in my humble opinion, love the video thanks 👍👍
thanks for sharing Emma
Lol I still love Blackpool
Try Rhyl !!! Or Canvey island
Happy days.
agree Terry
Hey Tim, enjoying exploring skegness with you from Crossville Tennessee.
Thanks Lee
It goes back years Tim,it wasn't been able to shake the reputation off, shame because it's a lovely place 🌞🌞
We don’t have the same traditions at the sea side in America. Popping over to the UK for two weeks next month. I’m really so tempted to visit a seaside town while there. I find this all so charming
Do it. :) I don't know that part of the country, but I highly recommend Torbay, in Devon.
@@lawrencemanning poor example
you should!
Whatever. Jeez. Won’t bother saying anything next time.
It looks a lot better than when I used to go there as a kid in the 70s
Was here last week with my family , had a great time, plenty to do for all ages. Really enjoyed the upside down house. Definitely doesn't deserve the title of worse rated and will be going back next year 😊
Go to Butlins as a group quite regular
Always go into skegness for a walk around few drinks and food
Never had an issue
Tidy , clean and no Agro
I see nothing wrong with it. It looks well maintained, clean, fresh and relatively modern, especially compared to my local seaside town, Blackpool
wow a lot of hate for blackpool .. I love it
@@WalkWithMeTim Nonono, I adore Blackpool, but it’s definitely rougher around the edges is what I mean. Love it.
