This is what I've been telling people who specifically call her out for not being able to hit this kind of runs. She clearly can do it, but she CHOSE to have her own style of runs that's thicker, audible and more precise (not to mention that she's learned Arabic runs through that). It's called originality and that's why she's still the Queen to this day.

Yes that is so true!!! She's developed her own melismatic style and technique now but there's still glimpses of Mariahs and Whitneys influence every now and then.

@@whip1720 Beyoncé honored the late Whitney Houston this morning with a tribute on her official website. "The loss of Whitney Houston is painful," she wrote. "I, like every singer, always wanted to be just like her. Her voice was perfect. Strong but soothing. Soulful and classic. Her vibrato, her cadence, her control. So many of my life's memories are attached to a Whitney Houston song. She is our queen and she opened doors and provided a blueprint for all of us." www.google.com/amp/s/www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/beyonce-remembers-whitney-houston-110709/amp/

I feel she has better riffs than she does runs. Here she actually riffed out. The sheer speed of the note transition is not as fast though

@@christmysaviour3585 it's okay. A run is a downward or upward movement between notes....a riff is a repeated musical pattern. Usually the two are combined to create those nice things we all live to hear

@@squarcircle2254As a huge Whitney fan who has listened to almost every Whitney songs and familiar with most of her released concerts and live I have never seen Whitney over sing not even in interviews☠️ Whitney's songs are dramatic along with the notes she isn't oversinging she's delivering what she gave in the studio and what her fans purchased cuz she never performs the song the same as the studio version and never performs it as she did she's always adding her adlibs and changing the note she extends or something.
Another thing don't ever compare Beyonce to Whitney. I do love Beyonce and think she's the best New Gen Vocalist but she's no where near Whitney's vocal level so watch your mouth.
When Whitney sang small acapella like this in her interviews she didn't make a run 9 or 10+ notes she just sang
Eg. Guide me Oh in 1990
And unlike most singers Whitney sang with something from inside her even when she was out of her prime in 1996 she ate and in 1999 she made a short recover but her tone was still darker due to cigarettes after that her voice started falling even more but she ate to the moment she died and still da best.
      R.I.P Whitney & Michael❤

I'm not a Beyoncé fan, and THIS is why. Anyone with a voice this phenomenal should not be doing the absolute SHIT music she does. She's too good for her own songs, and it's annoying that she seems to be ok being the "queen" of puffed up pop, instead of the vocal powerhouse she clearly has the ability to be. I've gotten rare glimpses of who I wish she'd be on songs like Listen, and Dangerously In Love, which is one of my all time favorite ballads, and the song that made me realize why I could never be a Beyoncé fan. Then she plays Etta James, and I wanted to throw a boot thru my TV. That voice deserves so much more!
