This dumb kid in my singing class is CONVINCED she’s a bad singer and has no control over her whistle register bc she sings ‘out of tune’ (she doesn’t obviously). He has horrible hearing and desperately needs to train it
The mixed voice is where we belt. Chest voice is not where someone belts. Chest voice ends in the first passagio which is just in the mid 4th octave for women. Anything above is either mixed (Chest-Head mix) or HV (pure or disconnected i.e falsettos).
Mariah Carey Fan I don' t understand what you are saying. People don't know the difference between head voice and mixes a lot of times (many online vocal guides has the whole thing wrong). Are you saying you start using head voice after G4 (as in true head voice)? Pure chest voice ends somewhere around Eb4s for sopranos, then people enter the belting range (mixed voice) which can extend upto early 6th octaves for some people.
Almost all of this is correct, however, middle notes and belted notes are mixed, never sung in pure chest, and falsetto doesn't contain any chest, it's a disconnected head tone. And there is no passagio between chest and whistle, because the head voice sits between the two.
M1981A Exactly. Well said. My only aside to that would be that one can sing in a modal/chest voice, relax the adductors a litthe and pump loads of air through the chords , blowing them apart, to give it a very airy/falsetto like quality.
I find it funny how your English was perfectly fine the entire video, and then you say 'And forgive me my bad English'. Your English is great, it was that last sentence that ruined it. :P
Danny T Oh. Thank you Danny. Your comment made my day. Lol xD I really don't know how's my english. I don't practice it with nobody and I study by myself. :/ Thanks again! Lol
According to the definition, I think the "Melisma" is really "Vocal Run". Also, the "mixed voice" of women usually starts at some top notes of the 4th octave. Any note which is higher than that is basically mixed voice. Here, Mariah Carey has a very balance proportion between chest voice and head voice which makes her mixed voice sound flawless and subtle.
This is some very very good information about our girl MC. It's because this magnificent, musical genius has a gift. And knows it mechanically in, and out. God I love here, and thank you for that.
La voz de Mariah Carey es iimpresionante! Sus registros están súper conectados y de ahí proviene. Su rango cubre desde un F2 hasta Bb7. Y en vivo ha hecho belting has A5
Jamie D Ikr? :D This was my first video, I wasn't sure about that note, but it seems like higher than G5, I mean very powerful. What a sharp F#5. lol #L4L
Nice one'! A concise, well represented explanation of the vocal range, which I got. I would not normally listen to Maria Carey, but when I do now, it'll be with a bit more respect. Cheers!
I used to do whistles along with her (easily to G6, forced to C#7) when I was around 16-20. But I forced it so often with terrible techniques. Through the years, now I'm 23 and I can't even hit anything above C6. I've watched a lot of Mariah vocals video to learn, because I'm also a part time singer. Just hope someday the high range will come back to me, then I'll be able to surprise people with some random high notes haha.
I think many 'high chest' notes here may actually be mixed voice instead of pure chest. They're just chesty mixes. Belting also refers to using mixed voice for high notes, besides pure chest. I believe the difficult technique you're referring to here is actually the 'mixing technique', by which vocalists can intentionally adjust the proportion of chest and head for different sounding. Mixed voice is naturally occurring when singers reach a certain height, but mixing technique is not. Mariah Carey and many other great vocalists in fact lack the mixing technique (although with great support). They rely on the mixed voice for those F5, G5, etc belts. So, it ought to be: 1. Vocal Fry Register 2. Modal Register (Belts [Chest --> Mixed] --> Head) 3. Falsetto Register 4. Whistle Register What I always wonder is whether or not falsetto is generally higher than modal; but people say head (a part of modal) is higher than falsetto when both go up to the limit.
I’ve always learned that passagio is a range of few couple notes in that transitional area of your range where it’s not quite one register or the other. This video is explained it as the act of moving between registers. That’s usually called a flip. Everyone’s passagio is in a different place depending on your voice type as well as individual differences
Rashaad Perry wtf are you talking about? Those terms are falsely used together. Super headvoice is when a person singing a really high headvoice, usually on upper notes of 6th octave. It's really different from WR. SHV is connected while WR is disconnected.
Medium of the explanation is nothing it is the explanation itself that matters the different examples you take care to show.Thanks.Now I begin to get an idea of range ,octave.

I think belting comprises mixed voice as well? What you're referring to is mixing technique that many vocalists lack (including Mariah Carey). Those F5 & G#5 belts are mixed voices as well (I highly doubt pure chest can go beyond E5, even for sopranos like Mariah Carey). Minnie Ripperton & Lisa Fischer are known to use extensive (super) head voice up to G6. I agree that's a different story from whistle which is a completely different register.

I’m a female, and I can sing as low as some of this base singers in quartettes. I can also do the whistle part of my voice, way up to the f above the last C on top of the piano.
