You’re in a for the ride of your life, brother. Definitely start old videos first so you can getter more immersed into the lore. Although it may be fun to hear a reference in a newer video and then later discover where it came from when you stumble upon the original
PNF stretching is what I believe you were talking about Also thanks again for showing me the fat grip bench press has never been easier to warming up and just changing the bar for more variety Mr.Spice!
I’m currently coming back from a substantial hip injury. I’d been taking it easy for a few months doing the pt and all that. Today I decided I was gonna give it a real hoist and heave. I had never deadlifted above 150 before injuring myself but had worked up to rdl with 135 for reps. I just kept doing singles for behind the back deadlift and got to 245 which I got on video. I’m so pumped
The stretch you are referring to is the GTO reflex, basically when you're stretching or having a high contraction on the muscles, after a while the contractions will be too great for the muscle forcing the receptors to signal the brain to override and relax the muscles. It's a safety thing for a high contraction but for stretching once you hit that threshold it will allow you to get a little more active ROM since the muscle relaxed.
I agree with the mustache thing. I joined the air force in 2011 and had the Stache from then on. Joined the fire dept in 2016 can only have a stache. Have recently got rid of the stache after 14 years due to its popularity among the hipster crowd.
I know you were thinking about getting back into freestyle wrestling again a few months ago. You should get ready for a jiu jitsu match. I think it would be great content.
And PNF stretching is beneficial for after training or anytime when your muscles are thoroughly warmed up which would also include immediately after static stretching which it also not be done until your muscles are warm so also good after training

I also like to do cable cross overs on bench press days as my beginning chest warmup. I figure I’ll warm up my pressing movement during the actual bench press; might as well get a deep chest stretch during my warmup.
My old gym had a power plate. I was probably the guy who used it, most just used by ladies lol but I actually really liked it before and after leg day.
I think there’s some truth to the power plate. I think it’s good for improving flexibility, specifically for someone who is super tight, if you already keep up pretty good with your flexibility and mobility work it’s a piece of junk to you, but for many of us tight lifters I think it’s great, I’ve certainly felt a difference. How much of a difference? Maybe a small percentage, but I think doing it regularly will create improvement over time. My mentality is, can’t hurt to do it for a couple of minutes preworkout.
Yeah I got to like 315 on bench and I just stopped because I boxed for years and I don't want to have tight shoulders. I mostly used strength in my legs to leverage the weight off my chest. Need to keep the elasticity for elastic recoil and use the stretch shorten cycle to develop a harder punch. Ended up doing 225 for 27 reps though.
I think Mike made a video or it was part of a video about how he was part of study how the vibrating thing allows you to stretch better and that's all it's good for
Vic Tanny the original gym mogul pioneered these vibration machines. It works on the same principle as the Wim Hoff method of cold exposure to cause shivering, which releases succinate in fat cells which increases mitochondrial biogenesis to cause more fat burning.
The type of stretching you were talking about (I think?) was called PNF stretching, I also remember it being big in that time period. Edit: Nevermind, he mentioned it when he got at the bench lmao
