My farther William Torp started his Flea Circus in England during the twenties and performed with his Flea Circus all over England.Later he opened in Denmark in the famous Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. He had his Flea Circus two years in Egypt as well at the time of Farouk's reign. After my farthers death my mother took over the Flea Circus and had it untill we closed it in Tivoli 1965.
I had learned the trade from my farther and opened my Flea Circus in Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey USA in 1960.I was after that two seasons at the Million Dollar Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and traveled afterwards with the Flea Circus in at special built trailer from the Canadien Border to Florida, and from the east coast to the west coast giving shows in Amusement Parks,Shopping Centers and Fairs. There were articles about the Flea Circus in about 200 Newspapers.Interviews in about 80 Radio Stations and appearances on about 60 Television programs including What's my Line and the Johnny Carson Show.I later in the1970s opened the Flea Circus in Tenerife (Canary Islands).I am now retired and don't have the Flea Circus any more, but a lot of nice memories.
There are many stories about a Flea Circus, and some are true and some are untrue. Here www.johntorpmusic.se/myfleacir... you will find many photographs and newspaper articles about the Flea Circus.
One of the clearest flea circus films I've seen, impressive camera work.
I saw this flea circus back in 1962, memorable to say the least (at least to me as an 8 year old kid)
It's nice to know there is an actual purpose for fleas.
leave it to humanity to turn something of torment into a way to earn coins from passers by.
i saw this at tivoli when I was a little girl. it was fantastic !! I tell people about it now and nobody believes me !!
Stuff you should know brought me here. Really cool stuff!
The soccer ball bit is amazing! This is kind of weird but wonderful.
I never imagine that i see this video, and certanly is one of the amazing things i seen.
I saw this when I was young.. probably 11 or 12. It was Amazing!
Ok, just wondering this but, WHO THOUGHT OF THE IDEA OF THE FLEA CIRCUS IN THE FIRST PLACE!?!!
That was really cool!!!! Educational too. What little marvels of evolution.
Thanks for sharing and letting pple from current generations enjoy this.
Pumpy32, your father was amazing!! I love watching these lost arts. Thank you very much for posting this....the best example of the flea circus I have seen. Again, THANK YOU!!
Incredible !
It's so interesting and creative!
brilliant..
"I hope you'll treat your fleas a little kinder in the future."
I was under the impression that a flea circus was just something that happened in old Bugs Bunny cartoons...
THIS MAKES ME ITCHY !
I saw this show in Tivol way back in 1959. I mostly remember the soccer field with a pith ball tossed back and forth between the goalposts. Then Mr. Torp rolled up his sleeve and held out his arm and said he fed them on his forearm. Shocked this young 9 year old, I can still feel the shock! I'll never know if he was telling the truth or if it was a part of the show.
I remember the exact same thing in 1959 but it was a woman who held out her arm.
Gracias curiosidades con mike
I have fleas right now.
Maybe I should try this?
Haha, but I love the way the lady talks about the fleas, very cute.
That was amazing :-)
@shoujoairocks> yes she is speaking Danish most of the time. The accent is how the language was spoken in the 50ies/60ies in Copenhagen..
The early life of Roach Boy Torp !!
I always heard about flea circuses, but never got to see it in action. I guess these days it will be regarded as 'cruelty to animals' as I see from some of the comments here!
Neat-O... :D
@Fasty Hopefully, the poor flea wasn't too severely chastised for dropping the ball.
The things that used to entertain people 😬
WOW i want to train fleas
Why cant these miraculous creatures be taught to turn modern turbine blades and generate electricity? HmmmMMmm? Ever though of that Mr. Scientist?
Who found this from the podcast Stuff you should know?
Jared Williams I did, I did! Lol
kkkkkk q loucura
Vengo por culpa de curiosidades con mike 🤯😝
Somos dos xD
Does this have copyright?
the flea circus must have been invented in a hell hole of a place
+Moe Gillyard Just what I was thinking.
I thought flea circuses were made up until now 😂
I just thought it was a joke in movies
They arent trained. They are just walking. The wagons are tied around their necks. They only live a couple days, and arent smart enough to train. They just walk and the wagon behind it gets pulled.
She looks like HRH The Queen!
@mzdoolittle What? He was clearly freaking out because he dropped the ball in front of a live audience and was afraid of what his master would do to punish him after the show!
I just have one question.........WHY?
Det her er fucking sindsygt PÅ
この人のノミパワフル。
I don't think the fleas are trained at all. I think they are being used, doing what they do naturally. The one with the" ball" was obviously only struggling, as it kept struggling once the "ball" was dropped. I was not amused.
I prefer xbox
IF ŽALUD SEE THIS VI VON ZULUL
That's where it starts... next it's fish, then crustaceans. Pretty soon you've got a torture chamber full of slugs, hermit crabs, and large beetles... coming home after the work day and locking yourself in the office for a few hours of plucking legs, poking with red-hot paperclips, and Colosseum-style gladiator battles to the death for your amusement... but that's okay... it's just bugs you tell yourself... just bugs.
And that never happened
They are probably happier being more active and exercising as opposed to spending their days in dense fur. I just wonder where she gets the fleas from, maybe she has a cat? There must be some serious discipline to train these fleas, as their brains are very tiny. I wish my dog could do all this. Also I would be curious to learn how fleas from a chinese flea circus permorm in comparison, the actual human chinese circus performers are usually better, inovative stunts, etc.
Yeah, real happy with it's neck in a yoke, dragging under the weight of the chariots. Probably happy like in hell. lol
@@MagyarRose LMAO. Poor lil flees.
@@MagyarRose the weight that is nothing to them.... they can carry 160,000x there body weight.
lol this person thinks fleas can feel happiness
Lmao what do the animal rights PETA activists have to say about this? should we expect another rally real soon for "End Torture Of Fleas"?
Btw this was really weird but kinda interesting...idk
