Yeah, I didn't see any fleas at the flee market. But this circus was a surprise to me.
In 1962 or 3 in early evening,we were exiting Sav on Drugstore in Spring Valley, CA. A man approached my mother and asked if she and her kids would like to see a flea circus. My mom said yes, and paid him 25 cents for each of us and herself. We climbed in the back of a van truck and watched the circus. I couldn't believe how tiny the little gold carts and carriages were and how the fleas performed with the props. The flea circus remains one of my most peculiar childhood memories. Some people don't believe me when I tell them I saw a flea circus. They laugh but always want to know about it.
This sounded like a beginning of a Criminal Minds episode about a weirdo serial killer who lures mothers with their kids into his van by offering them to watch a sadistic flea circus performance.

I only came here after learning of the Flea Circus that was popular in the late 1800s. I had to see what the hype was about.
It was popular in the early 1800's, around 1830 to be precise, back then some fleas became world popular with such big names as Big Boy Flea and The Mephisto, among others

Quite possibly the most amazing feat I have seen this decade! What dedication, patience, and skill it must take to be a flea trainer. I was recently gratified to learn that not all flea circuses have been humbug, and I doff my hat to Walt Noon, who keeps alive an almost-lost form of art!

I don't really know how I ended up here but I'm glad I did.
I remember seeing one of these "Flea Circus" suitcase acts on Looney Toons when I was a kid (I was born in the mid 80's , they used to play old Looney Toons on the Saturday morning cartoons around 11AM or so).
These were used by Buskers (street performers) and circus sideshow acts. It's just a funny way to entertain people and make some $.
same, I never got those flea circus references until now. They went out of fashioned by 1912, but their heyday was in the 1830's. People didn't have TH-cam back then, so they watched flea circuses all day long.
Just don't let them breed!!!
