- Here are the key differences between four-stroke and two-stroke engines:
Cycle Type:
Four-Stroke Engine: Operates on the Otto cycle, consisting of four distinct strokes: intake, compression, power, and exhaust.
Two-Stroke Engine: Operates on the two-stroke cycle, combining the intake and compression strokes as well as the power and exhaust strokes.
Strokes per Cycle:
Four-Stroke Engine: Completes one full cycle (intake, compression, power, exhaust) in four strokes of the piston: two up and two down.
Two-Stroke Engine: Completes one full cycle (intake-compression-power-exhaust) in two strokes of the piston: one up and one down.
Power Delivery:
Four-Stroke Engine: Provides smoother and more consistent power delivery due to the separation of intake, compression, power, and exhaust strokes.
Two-Stroke Engine: Delivers power with each stroke of the piston, leading to potentially higher power output at higher RPMs but less smooth power delivery.
Efficiency:
Four-Stroke Engine: Generally more fuel-efficient due to better separation of intake and exhaust processes and improved combustion efficiency.
Two-Stroke Engine: Typically less fuel-efficient due to the mixing of fresh air-fuel mixture with exhaust gases.
Emissions:
Four-Stroke Engine: Tends to produce fewer emissions, including lower levels of unburned hydrocarbons and particulate matter.
Two-Stroke Engine: Often produces higher emissions due to incomplete scavenging of exhaust gases and lubricating oil.
Maintenance:
Four-Stroke Engine: Generally requires less frequent maintenance due to the separated oil and fuel systems and better lubrication.
Two-Stroke Engine: May require more frequent maintenance due to the need to mix oil with fuel for lubrication.
Lubrication:
Four-Stroke Engine: Has a dedicated oil system for lubrication, which helps reduce wear and tear on engine components.
Two-Stroke Engine: Requires oil to be mixed with fuel for lubrication, which can lead to increased oil consumption and potential pollution.
Simplicity:
Four-Stroke Engine: Typically more complex in design due to the separation of processes and additional moving parts.
Two-Stroke Engine: Generally simpler in design with fewer moving parts, making it more lightweight and compact.
Applications:
Four-Stroke Engine: Commonly used in automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and many other applications.
Two-Stroke Engine: Often found in smaller engines, such as chainsaws, lawnmowers, and some motorcycles, as well as certain specialized applications like outboard motors.
Both types of engines have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice between them depends on factors such as intended use, efficiency, emissions regulations, and desired power characteristics. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
The 2-stroke is just beautiful.
yes but it's impossible to lubricate well, have fun rebuilding your engine every 1000km
1000km what ?
@@theoemanuelsson7465that’s why you mix some lubricants into the fuel. Works good enough for bikes and lawnmowers.
@@theoemanuelsson7465you don’t know what you talking about 😂
@@theoemanuelsson7465almost all very large ships diesel are 2 stroke. So reliability is not their problem.
2 stroke is for speed and 4 stroke is for reliability
Yes ok
wrong lmao more shit to break on a 4 stroke
@@bioptic2074still 4 stroke is reliable and fast compared to 2nd one
@@bioptic2074Two-stroke engines give more power and are lighter, good for small machines. But they use more fuel and pollute more.
Four-stroke engines are reliable and efficient, great for cars and bigger machines. They may have more parts, but they're built to last.
@@Worldp766Four stroke are more reliable than two stroke, but two stroke are faster because they produce power every crankshaft revolution, allowing quicker acceleration, so you're partly correct. (I'm not an engineer, but i love learning about engines)
4-stroke: better efficiency, reliable, less pollution but bulky
2-stroke: pocket-sized, more power but much higher pollution and reduced efficiency
Still wouldn't harm the planet the way the WEF does with their thousands of private jets flying to the states every year to talk about emission taxing lmao
@@whyareyoureadingmyname5854is the quantity of jets flying in the air everyday the same as 2 stroke engines? If we're talking about today then yeah 2 stroke engines are kinda hard to see depending on the country. But if it's 20, 30 or even 40 years ago then it is so much more than jets

@tommasoastaldi2513 question... How is the 2 stoke more powerful if it is less efficient... Or are u referring to efficiency as miles per gallon ?
2-stroke: Squish-Bang

power wise yes sound? nuh uh
Do you own one?
How is? If 4 stroke sounds more powerful
Trabant, Wartburg
Two strokes are good for light load small machines like motorcycles but not good for large machines like trucks or cars 2-stroke has very little torque high RPM 4-stroke has more torque less RPM
Because the 2-stroke engine requires scavenging of the exhaust gases from the cylinder there tends to be inefficiencies especially when varying the revs. If the engine is required to maintain constant speed, 2 stroke eff is much better than when varying the speed all the time. 4-stroke doesn't have these limitations so more efficient.
Edit: in fact when designing/tuning the 2-stroke exhaust you take into account the pressure waves in the exhaust system to help draw out the exhaust gases as well as to keep the fresh fuel/air mix from escaping into the exhaust manafold. That's called a tuned exhaust & will work at a predetermined rev power band.
2T POWER💪
2stroke engine donot need oil-pan, and best for jet-ski and motocros, since there's no oil pan,it does not require a steady upright positiining, while the 4stroke needs oil-pan, or oil reservoir, so it cannot be operated upside-down
Ever heard of dry sump oil system?
usually because oil is mixed with the gasoline in a 2-stroke, I'm not sure what the technical reason is for this though
2-stroke engine, less friction, more performance per cubic centimeter.
Damn that 4 stroke got mad rythm he got it locked down fr 💯
2_stroke engine it's lighter, produces smoke, oil is mixed up with gas
4_stroke engine, it's heavier, oil doesn't mix with gas
En la animación de dos tiempos la lumbrera de escape tiene que estar más alta para que se abra primero
Thank you, for explaining
You are welcome!
I'm glad there's a lack of comments that start talking about power bands as if it's some physical thing you put on the motor.
Four stroke
Two stroke
Brain stroke
4 Stroke valves
2 Stroke ports
2 strokes can also have valves, at least the ole Detroit Diesels
I always see the 2 stroke as a 1 stroke...
That would be having a combustion event every time the piston changes direction. I'm sure I've seen diagrams of an engine like that but it's pretty darn different.
No, I've a decent enough amount of experience with engines, a 2 stroke has all 4 strokes, intake, compression, power, exhaust. The main difference being compression/intake and power/exhaust happen at the same time. Someone can correct me tho
@@Spartan-3144intake & compression + power & exhaust.

Incase your wondering,2stroke engine oil combinations is mixed up with gas which doesn't apply when it comes to 4_stroke engines
None of us were, but thanks. Hey guys, get a load of this dork cosplaying as Einstein! 😂
Twice efficient on fuel...
2 stoke is immortal.
despite being simpler design wise, their a bit less reliable. so not necessarily accurate.
Oil and gas mixing in two stroke?
Yes (i drive a two stroke)
In most u mix gas 40:1 oil
Yes. Oil is added to gas tank. They enters chamber together.
I suppose it's because the fuel comes from right underneath the piston, so that's also where oil needs to be
I like two stroke engine
for anybody without the involved knowledge, a four stroke is more emissions friendly and has four distinct strokes in its cycle;
intake: the cylinder takes in air and fuel. like a syringe, the piston moves downward in the chamber using vacuum to pull in the mixture. the intake valve is open and lets air in.
compression: the intake valve closes and the piston travels back up into the cylinder, compressing the mixture.
power: the spark plug fires or the compression causes the mixture to combust. the piston travels back down as a result of the exploding gases.
exhaust: the exhaust valve opens and the upward travel of the piston forces the burnt gases out of the engine so the cycle can repeat.
this is a bit of an oversimplification, but a two stroke engine combines the intake stroke with the exhaust stroke, meaning that to complete a power cycle the engine only has to do two strokes. this means two stroke engines are generally lighter and more efficient at the cost of higher emissions and oil consumption.
This would have been great to see 25 years ago. It would have mmade it easier to understand
Both are only one stroke, both are four cycles. The upper one requires two strokes to complete a slower but powerful operation. The lower one, in one stroke, produces a faster, less powerful operation.
(And, the Engineer Otto, only baptized the process as : four cycle engine. The person who did the discovery was an Auto Mechanic).
El motor de 4 tiempos es más eficiente pero está claro que el motor de dos tiempos ofrece la máxima potencia para un reducido tamaño.
Por isso o2 tempos tem um giro maior, pq pra cada giro uma explosão
I have stroke when i watch this
I always thought it was about the cylinders it had.
Turns out they’re just different types of engines.
Yep there can be 2-stroke inline 4s and V-8s and anything else just like a 4-stroke (and they don't all look like this cutaway). Even your choice of diesel or gas designs.
I recommend looking up the Detroit Diesel 2-stroke truck engines from decades ago. Highly imperfect but interesting and charming.
2 stroke engine burn engine oil in combustion chamber 😮😮
VW/Audi 4-stroke drivers:
That's not all engines?? 😄
Anybody knows what music is playing?
Looks like the forestroke is low on oil.
The 2 stroke is for high speed and the 4 stroke is for torqe

2 zamanlı ve 4 zamanlı motor. 2 zamanlı(times) motor motorsikletlerde kullanılır daha çok. 4 stroke derken aslında 4 işlem olur motorda emme, sıkıştırma, patlama(moment), egsoz 2 zamanlı(stroke) motorlarda egsoz ve emme aynı anda olur. Yani piston içinde egsoz gazı varken içeri yakıt ve hava enjekte edilir böylelikle devir daim döngüsü azalmış olur. Yani 2 stroke.

Modern fuel and oil injected 2 strokes are LESS POLLUTING than 4 strokes..
Four stroke engine: I’m designed to be efficient and get a long lifespan

2 stroke Diesel Engine💪🏻❤
which one more efficient?
Four stroke engines are more efficient
If you mean size- or weight- or cost-efficient, 2-stroke.
Now I now how my engine in Jalopy works, Thank you!
You're welcome!
What i see. 2 stroke and 1 stroke
A stroke is the piston moving along the height of its travel. In either direction. The number of strokes an engine is called is how many strokes happen for every single ignition event.
It's 4 and 2 here.
I'm the top one, on a good day.
Di two stroke seharusnya antara intake dan exhaust tidak boleh sejajar.
Ini sebab dia tak butuh valve.
Mengajari jangan sambil membodohi.
Does oil still sit under the crankshaft on 2 strokes?
I like it. Tnqx u so much.
Welcome 😊
New fresh air will also escape with exhaust gas .
Importantly, air with unburnt fuel already mixed in - probably where it loses most of its would-be fuel efficiency advantage, and definitely not great for emissions either
2-stokes are just not reliable enough to be driven on the street, or any kind of a distance for that matter. But besides the ridiculous amounts of emissions they expell there still ok for things like lawnmowers, weed whips, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and motorcycles that merely go around in circles out in the back 40.
Like my 2 stroke TOMOS love it 🛵
Lets see paul allens internal combustion engine
thats why 2 stroke smells like gas
Yeh it cause a lot of pollution I mean A LOT
Dumb 2 stroke model, exhaust port opens at almost the exact same time as the transfers, what on earth kinda blowdown period is that 🤣
Okay so 2 stroke is for speed, 4 stroke is efficiency. Why not a 3 stroke so we can get the best of both worlds 😏 (I’m not a mechanic, I don’t know what I’m talking about)
LMAO! Hah, that's sort of possible in my mind, but it'd be overly complex and in practice would probably be the _worst_ of both worlds 🤣 I like where your head's at though
Check out Stihl's 4-mix motor.
Dois tempos foi abolido pois poliuia muito o meio ambiente mas sem duvidas era o melhor 😮
Im thinking of that 4 stroke might need big flywheel to store all energy to complete all long timed 4 cycles of the engine i think (i rather putting big flywheel on 1 cylinder)
Makes sense, if you want it to be able to idle decently slowly.
I guess lawnmowers get away with decent idle speed since the blade acts like a flywheel, but leafblowers and chainsaws are still usually 2-stroke maybe for that reason?
Plus bc they're handheld so light weight is important

I bought A Mercury 150 2 stroke. So glad I did. Now everything is a 4 stroke. Why? Because it’s so expensive and creates jobs. My 2 stroke will out live me.
I only need 3 strokes to exploed xDD
The music doesn't fit at all
This made me question if there was power loss from the engine crank having to push fuel into the cylinder, but then I realized 4Ts have to move a whole valvetrain
And a 4 stroke also has to use its own energy for all its fueling and aspiration. Sucking or shoving, either way.

Two stroke uses a reed valve not that

Enak 2 tak ga ada klep2 yg bikin lambat accelerasinya..
2 stroke seems like it saves energy.
I mean there's not a single 2-stroke car made since 1989, and modern 2-strokes are barely being made
However, 2-stroke for me is just the best, twice the rpm sound with half the effort
It's definitely more size and weight efficient for a given desired power.
Less complex too which is great.
Somehow they turn out to be less energy efficient though, and with worse emissions too.
