On today’s van life/stealth camping food adventure, I ventured out to test a new heating system to keep me warm and comfortable on these very cold, bitter and windy Canadian nights.
We will be hanging out at one of our favourite truck stops and eating some of our top food items for Dinner, Snack time and of course good old breakfast.

Ken try using bags for your boots and shoes to keep your floor dry each time you step back in your van just put a bag on each boot 👍🏻
i was a huge pop drinker,, until i found this brand of Carbonated Water called "Polar" just like La Croix but different flavors, i live in the US (michigan) but i have to assume its in Canada too 0 calorie 0 sugar ect ect ,,,, you should try it ,, thx for all the great vids!!! cheers

Polar is a good carbonated drink, but for me it doesnt replace soda. I try not to drink so much soda and drink more carbonated water. It does help

Oh I saw Old Dutch Potato Chips. Oh how I miss these. Growing up near the British Columbia boarder we would go to Canada quite often and get our favorite foods and Old Dutch brings back memories. I haven’t had Old Dutch for over 30 years.
If your ever having trouble coming up with video Ideas just do a 24 van video if you want to make it better do it at a gestation

Dollarama has rigid plastic dish drainer that work great as a compact boot tray.
Love vinegar on fries as well. The NJ, Delaware, Maryland beaches have it at the boardwalk fry places. They only have vinegar and salt as an option. No ketchup. Which I agree with haha.
Hey Ken if you can... put your batteries & cell phone inside a nice warm thermo sock to keep out of the cold elements... never keep close to your body!
I put the heated blanket under me because heat rises. Then put a thick blanket over me. Works great

An electric blanket is definitely the way to go when it's cold out.
Stop into an asian market and pick up a Korean heating pad in twin size. You sleep on top of them, not underneath them. Makes a HUGE difference.

Mom and pop are my favorites. I also like the 24 hour at truck stops also, sort of improvising meals.
They have you pull up because their drive-through is on a timer and they get bitched at if there drive through times are to high.
You need a bowl of hot porridge with blueberries and honey. Plenty of heat in porridge , not much in processed snacks.
That brings back memories when I used to have to live out of a van because I was homeless at the time and it sucked believe me it was not an easy walk in the park because the van couldn't even move it all and it was stuck in my parents driveway next to the garage taking up space in the driveway and having to run an extension cord to it just to be able to fire up the heater

Growing up, I remember going to the A & W drive-in a having the Teen Burger and Onion Rings with a frosty little mug of root beer. The best!
For me, it's the Coney Cheese Dog w/ onions, onion rings, (white vinegar mandatory!!!), and a bucket of root beer! lol

At the part when you talk about cheesy treats and it amazes me you didn't know Cheetos makes those lol.. Cheeto Puffs ... but my fav snacks are the one you picked. Love Ms Vickies chip and any cheesy snack are my absolute fav.
Cheeto brand also makes puffs like humpty dumpy but Old Dutch is a Canadian brand 👌

I’m an A&W Mozza Burger girl, with onion rings of course, as they have the best onion rings in my opinion. I used to get coney sauce as well, but I don’t think they have it anymore.

Steve Wallis uses a Mr.Heater overnight, but in a bit bigger area. I think they're pretty safe...
Just make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector...and you have that.
I use a Mr Buddy heater in my tent, because my tent wood stove gets baking hot, the wood stove is best if its 20f or less. However , the mr heater is sort of to large for a mini van, they have safety devices if it tips over, but i will switch positions several times and afraid a blanket coprner will get into the grate of the mr heater, being in such a small confined area.
Ken...you were supposed to release the button on the hot chocolate machine when the cup was 3/4 full...lol...said so on machine
Great A&W choices! Too bad our only local one is a spring/summer/fall drive up stand. No breakfast or 24 hour options. We love our electric blankets for camping too. I've never tried them on just the battery though. My 2004 Winnebago wouldn't make it through the night without being plugged in or using the on board generator. Love your videos! The combo of food, camping, and fun is all the things I love. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Safe travels.

Hi Ken, just letting you know I’ve camped in much colder conditions in Iceland. iPhones and go pro batteries don’t freeze that easily. Less things to worry about I guess😂
Just letting you know, 6 days ago Ken release a video of camping in Rusty the van at a KFC for 24 hours in -22 Celsius outside temperature.
Im thinking about turning my Dodge Grand Caravan into a camper van. It’s nice to see other people camping in the same van layout.

The Mr heaters are built with a shut-off valve so if there's too much CO2 in there it'll shut it off automatically it's made for indoor outdoor
There's another TH-camr who sleeps in his F truck alot & uses propane heaters to keep warm. He uses a CO2 monitor. Shouldn't Ken be using one as well? 🤔
@@SuperRoo_22 he can is not going to hurt anything I've been inside a camper with them running then wake up in the middle of night and and the heater be shut off or in my dear stand it won't turn CO2 level is low it won't even turn back on
Or even come late afternoon 3 or 4pm do an early dinner late lunch. Then set up stealth, snack before bed and a breakfast. Good amount of food shown in a video and also shows the stealth part. If its warmer ot, maybe can start noon and do lunch and dinner and breakie next morning. And can ride bike, run, etc during afternoon to burn the calories.
Best part of eating fast food before below freezing car camping is the grease stops your frostbitten fingers from sticking together

I miss our A&W. It closed a few years back. I have found that I actually prefer Culvers' root beer though. My daughter was home, visiting from Germany at Thanksgiving and requested I try to find dill pickle potato chips for her, since she can't get them there. I now have a new favorite snack. Lays brand is my favorite.

I stayed at that same gas station for 2 nights last week...I found it to loud with all the truck traffic but it is a convenient spot for stealth camping. Great video once again Ken!

At walmart they have electric blankets that will run for 10hrs at a time. About 100 bucks. They have a instant preheat also and can be controlled by phone.also very soft and much bigger and still only 125 watts in highest setting.

We had ONE A&W in my state, and it closed years ago. They have, in my opinion, the best fast food onion rings 👍
I weirdly like the winter ones when it's really cold. The car ices over and is more stealthy. There's less people out because it's so cold. Plus you can get cosy if you can get warm enough.

A lot of drive throughs have timers to track the locations efficiency and other things. That's why you get asked to move forward even with no one behind you. Just FYI.

Those buddy heaters are pretty safe we have the big buddy and u can get adapter hook big propane tank last long time but those things will turn off if tips over and if the oxygen levels get to low will automatically turn off they worth the money for sure

Try an electric mattress pad with the electric blanket. You are sandwiched between the two. This is the cheap way for me to survive Iowa winters.
Never had A&W breakfast before. Looks good . Looks good . I used to love their onion rings until they changed their batter to this crumbly crap. Never stays on onions and way too salty . Yours in your video looked really good though. Guess they make them different in some places. So I’m a fries girl for now . Great video. Love the electric blanket .

Hello Ken it cute,If you bought a Twin size Electric Blanket it would fit your cot.It should last about 8 hours before you have to turn it back on.That one is a throw and only last 4 hours before you have to hit it again to turn back on.I love Goldfish and Fudgecicle.

Understand what windchill actually means. If the temperature is -10 and the wind chill is -15, it is still -10...you would just get to the -10 faster in the wind so it "feels like" -15 with no wind. If you're in the van, you would not be affected by windchill at all. I'm sure you know this :-) Cheers!

I'm guessing you don't do much walking outdoors. For those walking their dogs, walking to work, to the grocery store, kids to school, the windchill is absolutely brutal esp if they say it feels like -25c to -30c. It does affect us. I walk my dogs in these brutal freezing temps. No wind is a blessing.
@@tina2750 Oh I understand wind chill and I do walk outside. And, yes, I understand the "feels like". But I also understand that the wind chill doesn't affect the actual temperature. Ken, here, is an a van. i.e. not walking kids to school. If he decided to go for a bike ride, then he can mention wind chill lol.
