Love it, I'm 61 and have only owned 3 vehicles my entire life, all used trucks. I believe in driving them until the wheels come off.

1980 Black GMC pickup, 1993 White Z71, 2008 White Z71 and I have no plans on car shopping. Hell, I may be dead in a few years so why waste the money on trucks when I can be buying ammunition.@@internet_internet

Funny I really did drive my 73 super beetle until the right rear wheel came off on I-55 on my way home from college for the weekend. I was out of control making big S swerves across both lanes and an 18 wheeler was standing on his brakes what looked like only a few feet away from me the whole way. Everytime I swerved left I could see his eyes and im sure he saw mine too. I don’t know how I didn’t flip the damn thing. It might have been on two wheels for all I know. After almost coming to a stop I was able to roll on over to the shoulder and some nice people gave me a ride to the town I live in.

K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid is actually a very important part of Military or tactical equipment and vehicles. The more electrical doodad gadgetry you have in a mechanical machine the more goes wrong with and the more unreliable it becomes. The way vehicles have gotten in the last 10 years is absolutely ridiculous all the Sci-Fi Star Wars nerd garbage they put in them. That's why the average sedan costs $45,000+ now too. That would be a $25,000 - $30,000 vehicle WITHOUT all that "junk" in it I have no use or need for in the first place. I'm still driving my 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty 7.3L Power Stroke diesel V8. Also still have my 1965 Ford Mustang 289 Hi-Po K-Code, 4-speed manual hard top. The newest vehicle I own is a 2008 Chrysler 300 and even that is a bit much for my liking. I have to get into 2016+ vehicles at work for my girls when they won't start, have flat tires etc etc. I can replace the parts or change tires but I have to go ask how to unlock, start, shift and drive those turds because of all the add-on modern junk in them! Do you really need to have a vehicle auto unlock and start itself without using a key? What happened to shift levers that have been replaced by electronic buttons? Low tire pressure sensors? Who needs them, get out your pressure gauge and check them. Same with cameras, auto headlights etc etc. That is a electrical nightmare and that vehicle will be full of gremlins before 15 years is up and complete unfix-able scrap!

Hey man, just a quick reminder to folks looking to fully ruggedise the truck for fording water, don't forget to extend the length of the diff and gear breather hoses. On the landcruisers the ends of the breathers are often only fed into holes in the chassis, and will drag water into the diffs and gearbox at alarmingly shallow wading depths.

Now every fall spray the underside down with Surface Shield or Fluid Film. Get the spray kit and Sure it'll leave the underside a little grimy, but it'll extend the life of the vehicle tremendously. I just got rid of a 2006 jeep liberty I owned since new. 285k and NO rust. Daily driven in NE PA in winter salt or whatever the weather was. In the past 5 years I'm pretty sure I only washed it about 4 times. It wasn't getting the love it deserved and with those miles it was time. It was a great vehicle though. Never put a wrench on it until my kids started driving.
That's a nice rig. Good luck with it.

I would imagine with basic new pickups and suvs costing upwards of a 100 grand in some areas restoring older vehicles like this start making a lot of sense! I have a 1997 gmc sierra slt 4x4 that im considering restoring with a new crate drivetrain ,new apholstory and paint. Ive been pricing everything needed and it can be done for around 25 grand. A quarter of what a comparable new truck cost.
