I have a 94 4x4 Ranger I'm getting ready to attack. It's not been driven for quite awhile until a year ago when I started the rebuild process. Steering gear box is up next, so your vid is a great reference. Thanks.

Glad it helped. I have slowly been rebuilding my truck over the last 3 years and still have lots to do.

this is a good video but i would highly recommend adjusting the screw first and see it helps😊

Thanks for the video! Do you remember what you torqued the bolts to?

    Great explanation,
So, since you change the box, that eliminated the play at the steering wheel…?
    Good job,
I have a 97 Mazda pick up but everything is the same with ranger.

Did this help your steering slop? Thanks, I have a 94 ranger and the steering feels sloppy tierods are good.

Yes, it did. I also have bad ball joints and tie rods, but this definitely solved one of the steering problems.

The rule is if you don't want to replace the power steering lines remove them from the box only you can remove the low-pressure line But do not remove the pressure one it's a one-time use. Once you pull it off you will be buying another one.

Is that the line that goes to to pump?

Did you need to get it aligned or align it after this or will the replacement not affect that?

If you do the process correctly, it shouldn’t need an alignment. However, I did need an alignment and I would expect to get an alignment when you are all done.

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger with no power steering and it's like driving a tank. I used a grease gun to hit the zertz on the front tie rods and stuff but isn't there a place to apply grease to the steering gearbox? It also has trouble passing cars on the highway- I don't have any power and it's dangerous to pass.

Under power could be the motor not firing on all cylinders or low fuel or air flow? As for the steering, its good you checked the tierods. The steering box doesn't need greased and runs on powersteering fluid. It sounds like your steering box might be going out.

@@fishnfix2432 Thank you for the quick reply. My truck didn't come out with power steering- it's manual steering? It's a 96 and standard so maybe just basic. I replaced the spark plugs and I think spark plug wires but don't know anything about getting enough air or fuel or how to check for that. Just not a mechanic and don't like to touch things I might break. I replaced the fuel filter-I noticed I can only get up to like 75 miles an hour and nothing over that-like it has to do with control for power if that makes sense. So if I don't have power steering and it's just a gearbox isn't there a zert for that?
