    The 35mm f/1.4 and 18mm f/2 both have metal lens hoods. The original 3 lenses that came out with the X-Pro1 were all high class with fancy hoods and presentation boxes.

      @Djk0t 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both of those hoods can be used on the 60 2.4. The 35 1.4 hood is a bit better as it is deeper than the one of the 18

    Hi Ken. Do you think there would be issues with the 56 1.2 with overall walkabout lens as well as a portrait lens? I know this uses the older motor technology, and was wondering if I was tracking something in continuous, if I would struggle. I have the money for the lens, and could really use the shallow depth of field when needed, but I would also like to use it on the street and for moving objects. What do you think?

    This lens has a known problem with the aperture ring contacts not corresponding with the manual ring... I sent mine in for repair to the NJ Fujifilm factory repair center originally over four weeks ago. The sent out a replacement although I didn't authorize it, and upon opening the replacement it had fibers flooding around internal. I called and discussed the entire issue and the manager and Dan assured me it had stickey material internal and it would grab the fiber/and other dust. The front element on the out side was filthy, but I decided to cooperate and he assured me any issues would be resolved if continued to occurred within six month service warranty, (incidentally the original lens was pristine/new condition but had the aperture issue). I later that day attempted to use the placement lens and that aperture ring didn't work at all!! All these issues and it came with a signed inspection form for operation and cleanliness, really?! I don't have room to list all the issues I had with the NJ Fujifiulm, but at this writing, I've called in about 9 times, they don't return calls when they tell you they will, and run you around from excuse to excuse.... VERY frustrating... especially 4+ weeks into the whole process.
    The original lens was relaced they told me because they don't have any repair parts, today when I got them on the phone they said the tech was disassembling the replacement lens for repair, when I reminded them they said they didn't have parts he suggested they had to take it apart... I tried to contact someone other than this shop but the Fujifilm site has no other contact information for X series camera's. I'm not a complainer and have been very patient, but I've seldom dealt with such horrible customer service. I'm very sorry I changed from Canon, (always had great repair experience). Fujifilm North America service (my first experience), is horrific... if I could give it a zero stars I would. Come on Fuji I've invested allot of money in your system way beyond this one lens.... this is totally unexpected from a Japanese company....

    Thank you for all your informative videos. It's been a great resource for me. I'm a working chef in NYC and plan on purchasing the Fuji XT2, primarily for documenting my finished plates and some instructional video. I also will begin to pursue street photography and plan on traveling globally for leisure. For my 1st lens, I'm leaning towards the 60mm f/2.4XF Macro..my second I thought to go with 23 or 35mm F/2.0 ....My last camera was a Canon Eos 1N with L series glass. What do you think?

      currently yes and no…..most product photography for macro is MANUAL Focus, and im far far happier using my 100mm Tokina with $12 adapter

    Hello Maestro, a question please. I just purchased a second hand 60 mm pseudo macro Fuji and I was wondering if there is a way using meta adapters like you did with the XT2 and the Nikon 50 mm ?. Is there a way to make this lens a proper macro ?. Cheers.

    Very nice video. If I saw this video before I bought my 56mm, I would probably choose the 60mm. With 56mm I rarely shoot at f1.2. The DOF is simply too thin for close-ups. I've also heard that the 60mm is still sharp at f11 whereas the 56mm already suffers from diffraction.
    I am consinder buying a simple adapter or a speed booster to use an old lens. Could be the Nikon E series you recommended. I hope you would make a video on adapters too.
    Thank you very much for all of your videos and recommendations.

    Ken, have you had your hands on the Fuji 50mm f/2 lens? I wonder how it compares to the 56mm f/1.2, and if someone has the 60mm macro lens, should I even bother looking at the 50 or 56mm lens?

  • @AnarchicImage
    @AnarchicImage 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just picked up the 56mm. Will be arriving on Tuesday. I considered the 60mm but for me the AF was a deal breaker. Probably fine for studio work but I also shoot weddings, concerts etc so responsiveness is important for me personally. Also DoF control was a factor in my decision. For anyone who only has $300 to spend on a Fuji portrait lens though, the 60mm is a killer deal :)

    I just got the 56mm f1.2 with the XT2. My camera's viewfinder freaks out when I am focusing. The lens focuses slow and loud. Sounds like gears running. The photos are nice once focused, but overall, I''m not very happy with this lens.

      @bh9262 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ken. I do not know how to make a video to show the focusing issues, like you.. I will try to record some audio.. It won't portray all of the flashing in the viewfinder with the focusing.. I certainly plan to return the lens. It is the only Fuji lens I have had problems with. If the exchange lens acts the same, I will assume it is the nature of the lens. I will most assuredly keep you updated...

  • @dermothoyne2393

    SUCH an understated little lens. Its certainly long in tooth (as was part of original XF trinity), but a macro is ALWAYS a slower lens to work with (even with fresher body affixed on). I elected to not bother with the 56mm, as I did indeed go for the 60mm, and was more inclined to spend cold green in claiming an XF90

    I agree both lenses are overpriced especially new. You're talking 1k for a 85mm f1.8 equivalent and half as much for 90mm f4 equivalent. The canon/nikon 100mm macro offer more isolation, much faster AF and are cheaper too!
    A thing to notice is that macro lenses are always super sharp at all settings whereas super bright lenses usually need to be stopped down. In addition, short tele primes like 56mm have poor minimum focus distance compared to even the kit lens.
    I do like the fuji 60mm at used prices. Great for all sort of things if you care to manual focus.
    For instance in a small travel kit :
    14mm f2.8
    23mm f2
    60mm f2.4
    Best value for money imo and more fun than having just the kit lens or one big exotic lens.
    When chasing kids or shooting weddings/events, I prefer 35mm f2 : more mobile and faster than either 56mm/60mm.

    Ken, you've reviewed all fuji lenses apart from the 56mm 1.2 APD, what do you think of that lens? I have the option of buying one for the same price as the standard version. I know of the the AF and loss of light issues, that's not a concern. Have you any thoughts regarding the bokeh? Have you ever tested one? You thoughts appreciated as always.

    Hello, I love watching your videos. I own an X-T2 + 35mm f2 and just recently, I find it very interesting to take of photos of kids in our church. I don't ask them to pose for portraits because I usually shoot them when they are dancing, conversing and moving freely.
    I am choosing between the 60mm f2.4 and 56mm f1.2. The former is almost half the price of the latter, my concern is it's continuos autofocus speed but it could be vastly improved with firmware updates using the X-T2.
    Mostly shooting in indoor fluorescent lighting conditions but I also want something good for environmental and street portraits during holiday travels.
    Going to Singapore later this week, 60mm f2.4 is priced $420, while the 56mm f1.2 costs $750 there. Both brand new.
    Thanks a lot!

      @kathodosdotcom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CONT AF speed is a bitch on the 60mm…..its not fast enough, but its a far far better value portraiture lens, this is true
      used the lens is $330+ i own both, youll have to weigh those things out :/ i never use my 56mm 1.2 honestly

      Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it.
      I think I will go with the 60mm for now. This will serve my need for portraiture. For playing kids I will stick with my 35mm f2. Then I will just wait for the 50mm f2 next year and hope that it is way cheaper and faster than the 56mm f1.2.
