Absolute BEST GoPro setup for fishing

  • This is a comparison video with my current Stuntman 360 fishing setup against the typical GoPro chest mount footage - which I think is garbage. See the footage for yourself!
    After years of capturing GoPro fishing videos, I can honestly recommend this setup as the best setup to capture fishing videos. This works for the GoPro 12, 11, 10 and 9. It's a GoPro mounted via SNAP magnetic mount onto a Stuntman 360 shoulder mount. This combination will give you a 3rd person over-the-shoulder point of view that captures more fish fighting action and less footage of hands reeling.
    This setup in combination with the GoPro 12,11,10 or 9's two features (Hindsight + Horizon Leveling) make it the best setup for fishing videos.

I have very old camera and I use it with gimbal attached to my chestmount and it is terrible. I had been still thinking about purchasing a new gopro and your video made it much easier for me. I had no idea about the hindsight function, this is really cool feature which makes everything much easier. Also the shoulder mount seems great. Thank you and good luck in your fishing adventures.

    Great video 👏👏👏do you happen to have a link to the Snap Mount that you are using in the video?
    Only the Snap Mount that is on Amazon UK looks exactly the same as the one in your video however the back plate does not have any mounting fingers for a thumb screw making it impossible to mount to the Stuntman shoulder harness.
    The only mounting fingers on the UK model are on the front plate but that attaches to the GoPro.
    Update…..I realise that this is the Snap Mount Pro version that you are using which comes with the extra back plates that have the finger mounts 👍
    So i have just ordered one👍

    Great video! Just got myself the Gopro 10, tho with a chest rig. Not too impressed by the sound when it's a bit windy. Do you have any tips on microphones? Need a microphone that is relatively small and won't obstruct any movement while fishing but can also pickup sound if i were to place the camera onto a pole in the back of the boat?

    • @TygerByte
      @TygerByte  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best microphone setup you can get for fishing is a wireless external mic. The Rode Wireless Go 2 is the best mic for the job. Get the matching Rode Lav Go mic to plug into the wireless unit and you'll be completely cable free from the GoPro. Even if you mount it in the back, you'll get clean audio commentary from the lav mic you clip onto yourself. Links are in the description.

    does hindsight work with voice activation .. ie 'go pro start recording' and hindsight will kick in ? So its recording you press record it saves upto 30 sec pre the button hit BUT doesnt the record button hit kind of zero it again, ie you have to press record again to get the next 30 seconds OR does it record Pre 30 seconds and post 30 seconds after record button press and save the file ? Ok I get it now - hindsight wont start again until you press record again .. so basically you are starting the record pre 15 or 30 seconds with hindsight then you are stopping the recording by depressing record again - after this the hindsight starts again and next record press starts 15 or 30 seconds before. This is so awesome with auto horizon i just have to get one now.

    • @TygerByte
      @TygerByte  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just like you have said, the gopro connects to the stuntman strap like anything else. We just now add the magnet mount in between the stuntman strap and the gopro for ease of access. With the magnet mount, you no longer have to unscrew your gropro, you can just grab it on and off because it snaps on/off via the magnets. The magnet mount comes with two plates. One is the base plate that connects to the strap. The other is a plate connected to the GoPro. The two stick together via very strong magnets.

    • @northofdetroitoutdoors7404
      @northofdetroitoutdoors7404 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m considering a hat-mounted setup too. It’s easier to pan down to get footage of the fish when being pulled into the boat. Although a great setup, the shoulder mount seems a bit too high at times.

The way these attach I can only attach one or the other. What do you have mounted to the go pro because if I put the snap on it then I can’t mount to the stuntman. • @TygerByte

      Main issue with loops is that you get more footage you don’t care about. Which in turn eats up the space on the memory card. But most of all requires more time to scrub thru in editing. With hindsight, you get exactly the footage you want and nothing else.

      My GoPro9 didn't have any issues... unless it was a hot summer day on a lake. Try lowering the resolution and frame rate. My gp9 settings are 4K/30fps, lens: linear+horizon leveling, hyper smooth: on, hindsight: on. Pro tune settings: high bit rate, shutter auto, ev comp: -0.5, whit balance auto, iso min 100, iso max 1600, sharpness medium, color: GoPro, raw audio high, wind auto.
      If you really want to help with cooling down the GoPro, remove the battery and use a USB battery pack. The hollow battery chamber will allow air to cool the unit. Hope this helps!

      I never liked the weight on the head. But most of all, I think the head mount is too herky jerky… meaning we tend to move our heads too much. I prefer shoulder because it keeps the camera pointed at the fish all the time.

    Does hindsight drain the battery fast ??

      It does drain it faster, but thats the only way you'll be able to capture footage beforehand. The alternative is to have it running all the time, but this results in way too much footage to scrub through.

      @@TygerByte Hey what about the Lens Mod do you recommend that also?

    • @TygerByte
      @TygerByte  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petermark8976 I looked into the gopro max lens mod, but I think for fishing the field of view is too wide so it makes everything look further and smaller. You don't really get to see the blowups close up enough. Besides, just the gopro 9 itself handles the horizon leveling well enough already. For other sports, the benefit of the 360 degree horizon leveling could be a benefit.

      What kind of usb battery pack do u have to power up your GoPro all day

    • @TygerByte
      @TygerByte  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No mic needed for gopro9. The onboard mics are excellent. For battery pack, I just use an anker powercore+ 10k mAh usb battery pack.

    And what about the head mount?

    • @TygerByte
      @TygerByte  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never really been a fan of the head cam as the primary point of view because our heads move around so much the footage is herky jerky. With the shoulder point of view the camera is always facing forward. Head cam as camera B could be a good addition to a stable camera A tho.

    Tried it … terrible, wouldn’t stay on moves too much. Threw them out. Chest mount still the best
