    Test rode this and Africa Twin ES Manual today back to back.
    Have to say, the Transalp really surprised me. Light and lively, strong engine, beautiful stable handling and good brakes with excellent wind protection. I really really liked it more than I thought I would.
    Only because I’m looking to ride a lot with the Mrs on the back and with luggage, am I still erring towards the AT, which by comparison is a heavy but more torquey beast than the Transalp, but the Transalp went from being an outlier to a contender in my upcoming choice of which one to buy.

      It’s definitely more capable than people think, although if I was doing more 2 up riding I’d probably consider the AT. Just means you’ll need to do plenty of tests rides before you make your decision. Ride safe.

      I own a transalp 750 and this is just my opinion, i think the suspension is MUCH too soft if u are planning to have full luggage + passenger. Im driving solo with a rollbag so for me its not a dealbreaker. If u are going to use it for two up touring and luggage for 2 people I think u would have to invest in better suspension if u decide to go the transalp route, maybe something to factor in with your decision of what to get. If i was in your situation i would go for the africa twin no questions asked, that bike is made for 2up where as the transalp in my opinion is better suited for solo + very light weight luggage.

      @@Kevin97587 Yes, I agree. I actually bought a AT in the end for that very reason. But in all hosesty, the AT also needs a stiffer rear spring because of the same problem.
      I have a 2013 CB1000R and a 2020 Monkey. I’ve had to put a Ohlins on both because of weak springs. Transforms the bikes once it’s done and I think this AT will at least be getting a stiffer rear spring once I get going with it.

      @@GeeBeeMike good decision :) did u get the manual or dct? And yes i agree, getting aftermarket suspension transforms almost any bike, but during my testride of the AT with its electronic supension i found it quite good, compared to transalp atleast.

      @@Kevin97587 went with manual with quick shift and regular suspension. Whilst the ES is great for quick adjustments on the fly, it suffers from the same problem with a mainspring that’s too weak for a heavy loaded bike. Bearing in mind this bike has to be capable of two up with luggage from time time, a lot easier to swap out regular suspension front and rear with Ohlins. Impossible to mess with the ES setup to make it better. I think an Ohlins spring AT front and rear gives you the best setup you could ever have. May as well spend the money there instead of their ES system.

    Good review matt,i liked it.i do mostly road riding,in fact if i was off road it would probably mean i need some assistance.im not entirely sure with this size adv bike,would you not just go africa twin?i mistook a transalp for an africa twin on the weekend at bridge motorcycles.theres not much difference in size.

      Thanks Mart, im lucky enough to say the only real time my bike ended up in the dirt was when I was on track and it was a simple low side.
      For me, I think the transalp is a great entry bike for doing both road and off road. Easy to use engine, some electronic gadgetry not an over whelming amount, good seat height and overall weight of the bike, more importantly its about £5000 cheaper than the Africa twin AS version, which you would probably get over the standard AT.
      Zoe would go for the Transalp over the AT. also cheaper parts if dropped off road. Ive seen Zoe off road, cheaper parts is always a good thing :)

      @@DSR1YT my partner doesnt ride bikes so i dont have to worry about what damage she would do.
      So in summary,the transalp is an entry level bike to the adv world.bit like a v strom.

      @mart7798 woah, woah. I’m excellent off road. I just happen to be a little over friendly with the floor. Also, it really wasn’t my fault that the bike broke my foot.

    Every one keeps saying its twitchy on the throttle but in low speeds on most bikes you have to feather the clutch to stop it jerking.

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To me twitchy throttle is different from having to use clutch control when going really slow. Twitchy throttle is down to the response when you first open it up. I don’t want to be trailing the clutch all the time to negate the twitchyness 😁

    Great engine but the spoked tubed wheels are not for me, subbed.
    NT750x with tubeless cast rims and cruise would be brilliant.

    Great review Matt, looks good in black. I see KTM are offering the 790 for same price here in the uk with very competitive financing……👍

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Les, it does look good in black, I also think the red white and blue colours suit it as well. Not sure which one I would pick though. The Transalp may not be as exciting as the 790 but I know where id want my money to go, somewhere where quality control and customer care mean something 😉

      @@DSR1YT Agreed regarding reliability etc. KTM don’t have a brilliant track record or a particularly large dealership network. Honda’s are usually bulletproof.

      You should choose a motorcycle like you choose a partner.you've got to love it,it has to make you feel good,and you have to love looking at it.
      No ones partner was chosen because they were the most reliable or the cheapest!although they might have made a lovely sandwich!

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  ปีที่แล้ว

      @lessmith6967 agreed les. KTM are no longer trading in yeovil now either as of last week. Nearest KTM shop is over an hour away. Getting bikes serviced is going to be a pain for some owners.
