Kia Carnival 2nd Row Reversal USA - How To and Results

  • After we purchased the 2022 Kia Carnival we found out the 2nd row could not be turned around in the USA version (maybe all north America).
Well that was a huge bummer, and we were banking on that. And several sales people heard us talk about it, and never corrected our assumption.
So I did some digging and found a way to reverse the 2nd row seats in our 2022 LXS (Seat Package) Kia Carnival.
This video is for information only, and I do not claim to know the laws 100% nor know the true reasons why they added a small plastic restriction device. Use this information at your own risk.

Check your car seat manual. You can’t install a car seat on a rear facing seat, and you shouldn’t drive with the seats facing backwards

@@meganrasmussen4827 No worries, the vehicle seats with car seats haven’t been reversed. And you can have whatever seats you want. They made production vehicles with the seats that were adjustable facing before. They just don’t sell them like that anymore because most people prefer facing forward seats. It’s actually safer for the passenger seats to be rear facing if a head on collision was to occur.

Thanks for this information! I have a disabled adult that needs to sit in the third row with no one sitting in front of them. Reversing the seat may be a way to keep the seat in the van and allow easy access to the third row (Instead of removing the seat). Can you provide a view of the access to the rear with the revers seat folded and the front passenger comfortable for someone your wife’s height? Again thanks for posting this video. Looking for options other than a Pacifica with fold in the floor seats or having one seat sitting in my garage getting dusty and impacted by humidity.

I believe that second row middle seat, when folded down, acts as a center table when the seats are in the "club seating" configuration. It slides WAY back, much further than the other two seats, so that it can be stopped between the four seats when they face each other. Kinda like a limo. I think that's how they are used in Asia.

As of the date of this comment, the Mercedes benz e 450 all-terain is sold in USA with rear facing 3rd row seat. Its never been illegal to drive/use rear facing seats in the USA. Its just very uncommon. If you get pulled over and a cop questions this , i would point him to the KIA Worldwide youtube videos of kia carnival 8-seat configuration. In most areas , US safety laws are one dependent on seat beats and driver visibility: headlights taillights side mirrors, no obstruction to Vision like dice hanging from rear view mirror.
Limos , taxis , busses , RV are different . Because the driver of the have to carry a CDL, the passengers can have reduced safety regulations , no deat belts, because the driver has extra driver certification.

This looks like an awesome feature! I'm not telling anyone not to do this, or that I believe it's unsafe - but my child seat's manual explicitly states to never mount the child seat to a rear-facing or side-facing vehicle seat... Doesn't make sense to me, but there it is in case people are wondering. For reference, we have a Chicco NextFit Zip Air. Perhaps not all U.S. Child seats have that in their manuals - just check yours if you are concerned with the legalities/recourse of the seat failing or your child being injured in the event of an accident. Like I said - doesn't make sense to me, but for me it's not a gamble worth taking.

Yeah all car seats say it. But if your kid is properly secured in their car seat, I don’t see the problem having them facing forward or backwards. They just put in there so if you get in an accident their asses are covered. Just like when you see a commercial and someone does a backflip off a diving board into their pool at home and it says do not try this at home on the screen. And you’re like, why not? It’s just a backflip into your pool? We’ll they have to say that in case you decide to do a backflip into your pool and blame their commercial 😆😆.

There are zero child seats that allow the seat to be installed on a vehicle seat that is not a forward faced vehicle seat. In addition, it is not allowed by the vehicle manufacturer to travel with the vehicle seat in a reversed position. Anyone watching this video who’s considering doing this to allow you children to face each other while traveling please reconsider. This is not safe and both the vehicle seat and the child seat are being used in a configuration that has not been tested and may fail to properly protect the occupant in a collision.

Y’all. You can’t do this! I’m not sure where you looked to find out this was ok, but I guarantee that you DID NOT look at the manual for that chicco. Look around page 30 and you will see that it cannot be installed in a vehicle seat that faces backwards. A seat that is designed to be installed rear facing on a forward facing vehicle seat is not going to react the same in a crash as a seat installed in forward facing mode on a vehicle seat that is flipped around.

But if have the same car seat and I turn the actually vehicle seat rear facing, then the car seat realizes it and ceases to function properly?? With this logic, you and the car seat manufacturers are implying that the child’s car seat with fail in either a head on or rear end accident. The car seat is only effective in one form of accidents. I feel sorry if someone is t boned. No car seats are made to protect against that.

This is very dangerous and I would ask that you take the video down to help prevent potential injury that could be caused by those who view it and feel it is an approved way to transport children.
