Did you put the DTF Ink into your printer from the start? Or did you use the default ink cartridges until you completed turning printer on and going through the setup?
OK so it depends On how willing are you to try and make something work that wasn't meant to do what they were built for, and most importantly ( are you willing to take A CHANCE ) because it's the best single head DTF printer on the market in my opinion. Also once you learn the ins and outs and what not to do, then it's totally worth it. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION
Nope, I never did with the epson 8550. Removing the print head is a no-no for me. It comes with a good seal, and if you pull them, there is no putting them back properly. So I don't, I learned that with my fist printer, so since then, I just use it how epson shipped it. I can't say I have a problem with it because I don't,

I always use the default inks, during setup, I only use dtf inks after my conversation.

How do you get the ink head to move if you have already started the printer before you convert to dtf

I converted mines brand new out the box and made it chipless. I’m using foam carts… I’m printing blank pages any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
